I don't think so seeing as how they posted this in 2013.

This was really helpful. Just one questionΒ what is a good technique to make a horn?
π: 0 β©: 1
frozenpyro71 In reply to Carrie416 [2014-08-05 16:25:46 +0000 UTC]
The best technique I've found is to roll a cone shape around a straight piece of wire (I use a paperclip). To get the spiral patten use a thin piece of wire and place it on the tip of the horn at an angle. Next, slowly roll the cone shape along the desk using the thin wire and with a little pressure, it will put a spiral grove into the horn.
This isn't the easiest method to describe and the 'wings and horn' tutorial is next on my list. I just haven't had time to get stuck into making it.

Thanks for sharing this with everyone. Just one question: should I make the mane, attach it to the model and bake them together or bake the body and stick on the maneΒ separately Β

frozenpyro71 In reply to cherrypopcommissions [2014-07-05 20:56:25 +0000 UTC]
I usually make the body and head in one go before baking then add the mane/tail after.

Could you do a mane tutorial please? These tutorials are very helpful and I'm sure you've had/got a lot of demand for them! My main issue it painting the underside of the mane without getting paint on the base, and visa-versa. :3

frozenpyro71 In reply to Charlockle [2014-03-14 03:59:04 +0000 UTC]
My goal for these tutorials was to give a good guide to the bare bones of making ponies. They are hopefully more of a jumping off point than anything. Doing a mane tutorial would be a massive undertaking because there are a million different mane styles as opposed to two body types.
As to your painting troubles, I use a tonne of masking tape when painting some of my sculpts. It can be a real life saver when it comes to the tight corners.

Ah, I understand, thank you! Yeah, I forgot about All the different mane styles - you're right~ :3
And thank you for the advice - I never thought about using masking tape. That should be really helpful!

I would have made the eyes a bit lower and a tiny bit closer together myself, but all together very lovely and helpful! The head does seem like the hardest part of the sculpture > . < You seem to have it very nicely done though.

It can be. But for this one the metal armature extends beyond the legs and into the wooden base giving it its stability. See part 1 for a better explination.

Approximately, how much clay do you use per sculpture?
π: 0 β©: 1
frozenpyro71 In reply to TXCleverGirls [2013-09-22 20:18:19 +0000 UTC]
Usually about half a block of SuperSculpey but it varies hugely between projects.

Is there something similar that i can use instead of polymer clay?
π: 0 β©: 1
frozenpyro71 In reply to Laila-the-cat [2013-08-25 11:39:03 +0000 UTC]
There are many types of clay available. Each works in a different way and its all down to personal choice which you use. Th best thing todo is just try a fe different ones

Four really dumb questions.
1. Is that just a block of wood?Β
2. Is there anything else I could use that is oven-friendly?
3. Is a normal cooking oven okay?
4. The instructions on my clay say cook for 15 minutes per 1/4 in of thickness. What does that mean?
π: 0 β©: 1
frozenpyro71 In reply to TangleskyAndCo [2013-07-29 23:51:03 +0000 UTC]
1. Yes, just a lump of wood I had laying about
2. Sculpey and Fimo are the main two. Each come in lots of differant varients for differant uses. What you are looking for is a polymer clay.
3. Yep. Any household cooking oven will do just fine.
4. If there are parts of the sculpt that are 1/4" thick you bake it for 15 mins, if 1/2" for 30 mins, etc. The thicker the clay the longer it needs to be baked.

maybe I'll be able to craft something a bit more worthy xD
I got some struggle getting Β everything smooth but still maintaining shape of a pony, its Β much harder than it looks, like in your tutorial, not sure if its because of different material or just total lack of experience from my side ._.
