Description Hey everyone. I'm very sorry for the delay. I just got a bunch of watchers and then delayed way too long. This part took me way longer then I thought it would. I had to discover brand new techniques that I had never done before. It's finally coming together and I hope it will be worth the wait when it's all said and done. Just keep in mind that everything you see in terms of the sculpt is subject to change. I will probably decide last minute that some big feature isn't right and just completely redo it. If I change anything big though, I'll be sure to include it in the next part.

Sorry the formatting is different than previous parts. I lost the original files and had to create this from scratch.

Today I have the fifth part of my upcoming Celestia sculpt. She is nowhere near done, but she's coming along nicely.

I have been asked repeatedly to make a tutorial and since she's going to be my most involved and complicated sculpture to date, I figured it would be the perfect time to just get everything out. These multi-part WIP submissions should include everything I do when sculpting. I do not know how many parts this will end up being, but I'll keep making them until she's done.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Part 6: [link]

Best wishes.

How big is this sculpt? I thought it was a lot smaller till you held here hair in your hand, which seems to be about the same size

She looks beautiful. And I love how you did her hair.

I would be surprised if the end result doesn't end up on EQD

I'm not surprised at all. It looks amazing. And but of course. It is a master piece in the making. Why wouldn't I love it? :3

I'm happy to do it. There is no reason not to share what I've learned if it helps even one person out. My hope is that they'll make the world of sculpting seem a bit more accessible.

The great thing is your learning as I'm learning. Lots of what you see here I didn't know how to do prior to this. I just make things up as a I go and discover new methods through trial and error.

Coloring can be a real pain. I still don't know how I'm going to do Celestia's hair color. Thank you and best of luck with your Luna.

This is coming along beautifully! That hair looks kinda heavy but the space that the foil takes up must subtract from the weight I'll bet.

Blackout-Comix In reply to AleximusPrime [2012-11-04 04:40:11 +0000 UTC]

It does subtract from the weight a lot. It's still a bit heavy, but it's supported so well and the weight distributed evenly that's it's not an issue. From a 3-D perspective, Celestia's mane has to be pretty thick in order for it to make sense. It also needed to be proportional to the tail so ultimately I had to do it this way. Thank you. I'm glad you like how she's coming along.

AleximusPrime In reply to Blackout-Comix [2012-11-04 04:45:37 +0000 UTC]

yeah, that's true. The Celestia custom I made had no wires or foil in it but it was thin like a pancake when I formed it and then I wrinkled it so it made a wave-like shape. Turned out good but I think next time I'll go for the cloud-shaped look like yours...
