Description

Whew! I feel like I've been working on this one for forever! In my defense, though, it's rather hard to paint and take pictures at the same time... Also, I'm gonna send a shout out to my good friend over at ~orangecranestudios for letting me feature her OC in this thing. Brohoof!!

These are the vectors I used!

A Different Swap by the wonderful *Trotsworth

Rage Twilight Sparkle by the fabulous ~uxyd

And, as always Discord Approved by the lovely ~Ambris

If you use a clay mane and tail[i was making a custom of Grey from Black Clover, and the head plug snapped off and i couldn't get it out to rehair so i used good ol' airdry] which becomes moldable when wet, what's a good way to use acetone to remove the eyes and cutie mark?

How did you put the head back on? Did you glue it? I glue it back on, but it doesn't work out too well... ;-;

Remember that plug that you cut out of the neck in order to remove the tail? Find it back and reinsert into the head cavity. This may take some ...erm...persuasion on your part (they don't always like to go back in) so be firm but gentle. Don't want to damage the paint you worked so hard on! If all else fails, use an xacto knife to enlarge the hole for the head cavity a little. One the plug is back in place, use some super glue around the inside of the neck cavity in the pony's body. Then just join the head and body back together and let it dry and do your victory dance!

Couldn't you use see-trough nail-polish to add a shine to the eyes and cutiemark?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

liz-neko In reply to Opiks [2014-04-30 21:56:09 +0000 UTC]

Could you? Yeeeeeah, but I wouldn't recommend it for multiple reasons. Nail polish tends to be very brittle and will chip or crack easily. Pony bodies are a fairly soft plastic, and the combination of a brittle medium and a malleable surface means you would probably wind up doing a considerable amount of repair work. Also, clear nail polish usually yellows over time.

If I'm looking to add a shine to eyes or cutie marks, I usually brush on a tiny amount of glossy Modge Podge. Modge Podge is water-based so you don't have to worry about chipping and it is archival so yellowing is never an issue. And it's dirt cheap. Always a plus.

Hope that helps!

Erhm, excuse me. What is sealer and how do you use it? Thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

liz-neko In reply to Winter-Wondermare [2013-11-27 12:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Sealer is basically a clear top coat that is applied over the paint to protect it from damage, dirt, smudges, small children (maybe), and anything else horrible that might potentially happen to your little creation. Kinda like putting varnish on a piece of furniture. Depending on the type of sealer you use, it can either be applied with a brush or sponge, or it can be applied spray paint style. Two-three coats usually does the job.

If you choose a spray paint style, make sure the pony is situated in a way where the sealer won't congeal on the surface under said pony or that will wreck all your hard work. If you choose a brush on style, make sure that you clean your brush super thoroughly afterward or be prepared to buy a lot of brushes. If you use a sponge (like make-up sponges), just wave bye-bye to it afterward because rinsing the sealer out of those is near impossible.

Hope this helps!

You are most welcome! I don't know if you saw the tutorial part 3, but I chat a little about specific brands of sealers in there. Just, I dunno, if you wanna see me ramble some more. Or something. I'm good at that.

lol. btw i have a question: what are the best brush sizes to use for painting the cutie marks and/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

liz-neko In reply to ThePon3 [2013-11-29 23:35:04 +0000 UTC]

Super skinny liner brushes. So skinny they might be considered anorexic. Mine are Craftsmart 0, 3/0, 5/0, and 10/0 (If that makes sense...). I think I got them at Michaels. They came together in a multipack, I do remember that.

liz-neko In reply to ThePon3 [2013-12-18 23:31:57 +0000 UTC]

Liquitex is a very good brand of acrylic that has a lovely smooth finish when it dries. I like Liquitex quite a bit and have used it from time to time. The biggest reasons I mainly use craft acrylics are because A) they are cheaper and B) they come in 8 billion colors and I have no patience when it comes to paint mixing.

yeah lol thanks ive been debating whether i should get a set of them or not.

liz-neko In reply to ThePon3 [2013-12-20 23:41:04 +0000 UTC]

The paint quality is admittedly better if you feel like spending the extra few dollars. To me though, it's not SO much better that I feel the need to upgrade. That may just be the thrifty part of my brain talking, though...

hey i have a little secret thing you may or may not want to try out. try removing the factory paint with brush cleaner? a friend of mine says that it works really well.i personally haven't tried it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

liz-neko In reply to ThePon3 [2014-01-01 03:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Brush cleaner? Hmm...there are lots of kinds of brush cleaners out there. Did your friend happen to mention what brand or type this was? I could see where that might work provided it's not too harsh/concentrated of a mixture. I'd be interested in trying it out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThePon3 In reply to liz-neko [2014-01-04 21:21:30 +0000 UTC]

no she didn't mention what type. i don't use brush cleaner so i don't really know too much about it.  but i think it would be something like masters. but i'll look into it.
