Description
Spotify removed the important local API some time ago. This is why all skins broke.
For now we are using a different approach which - unfortunately - needs some tweaking. I hate dependencies but this is the way to go.
It gets harder and harder to keep this skin alive. But it is alive. It is 4 years old by now and still working flawlessly.
The following steps are MANDATORY for a working skin, unfortunately. Read all the instructions first, please!
0. Delete any old version of the old "Spicetify Rainmeter Skin" if you used this skin before.
1. Follow these instruction carefully (5 commands one after an other into PowerShell + Comprehensive Guide available): pastebin.com/87muQXZ2
1.1 If an error occurs at the beginning you need to enable Internet Explorer 11 within the Windows settings and start it once for a properly working PowerShell.
1.2 If an error occurs saying something about a backup, just delete "backup" from the last line "spicetify backup apply" --> "spicetify apply" and press ENTER again
1.3 If an error occurs at the end simply reinstall Spotify as suggested by the script.
2. Install Spotify Control Rainmeter skin.
3. Play a song in Spotify and benefit.
4. After every Spotify client update you need to re-do step #1 (entering all 5 PowerShell commands again)
Features
Custom Right-Click-Menu for resizing (Fully scalable due to vector graphics)
Playback commands for free and premium users with on- and offline Spotify
Completely hidden when Spotify is closed

The buttons worked well on 1.0.74.380.g1fcff12a. After updating Spotify to 1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc I am facing the same issue. Fix is in development.

Corrected the problem however, the pause/play button doesn't change. I can still play/pause the music but the actual button doesn't change.

Okay that is weird. Still working fine right over here. Did you try to update all skins within the Rainmeter main menu?Β Is there any error in the logs?

Right-click the skin and choose "Smaller Size" or "Smallest size"

Hi, very big fan of this skin. I was wondering, however, how do i change the colours?
π: 0 β©: 1
fuckyeahlucas In reply to HeikiTish [2018-02-09 16:21:22 +0000 UTC]
The colors are being generated dynamically based on the album cover. If you want to use static colors you have to override the dynamic measures. Currently, I am abroad but in a few days I could give you further instructions.

For every [BackgroundColor], [Accent1] and [Accent2] you have to set a color in the RGB format xxx, xxx, xxx

I've been rocking this Skin for months now! Its just perfect!
But it just stopped working, Spotify updated and now the skin doesn't load.
Help please! I feel lost without it!

Try starting Spotify, turn some music on and wait some time... the plugin needs sometimes some time to detect that Spotify is actually running :/
If this doesn't work please report back.

Got it back working again! Thank you!
Is it possible to make the plugin match the connection type of Spotify? Like the proxy info I mean...
I use a proxy at work and it was recently changed, I found the skin (plugin) works perfectly with the old proxy, but it stops working if I use the new one.
BTW! Thank you so much for the awesome work!

fuckyeahlucas In reply to SergCR [2018-01-27 08:13:36 +0000 UTC]
Proxy related stuff is subject to the plugin :/Β Sometimes such connection issues are just temporary and caused either by the plugin or by Spotify itself. Did you manage to get it working again?
π: 0 β©: 1
SergCR In reply to fuckyeahlucas [2018-01-28 04:25:52 +0000 UTC]
I did... Thanks for asking.
I must use a proxy at work to get spotify to run, but that proxy doesnt like the plugin.
I managed to get it to work by changing the port in the internet options and set the proxy that works with spotify in the spotify advanced settings.
Greetings from Costa Rica!

Hello! I'm a fan of your skin and I was wondering if you could change or add a few things to it. I was thinking maybe when the text is too long for it to be shown in the standard format, make it scroll through the name or make it smaller, but preferable the former, making them just an option would be quite nice as well. One more thing, for the background of the control bar to be transparent or at least as an option in a menu.
That's all! Thank you for listening and for the great skin!

fuckyeahlucas In reply to AveryEmerous [2017-12-29 17:21:20 +0000 UTC]
First of all: Thanks for your comment!
I already thought of how to display a too long text in this small area: there are in my opinion two options which both are mentioned in your comment.
Moving text: Rainmeter is not designed to update each skin on such a regular base that text would move smoothly. There are some LUA scripts to achieve this but I'm not a fan of them.
Smaller text: I tested this before and the problem in my opinion is that some strings parsed from Spotify are way too long. For example: "Artist featuring Artist, Artist, Artist - Songname (Remix Bla Bla Bla Bla) - Radio Edit". This string needs to be shrinked so much in size that it would not be readable anymore. So I'm still cutting the string to fit perfectly within its boundaries.
Could you show me what element should be transparent in your opinion? Do you mean the entire space beneath the current position bar?

AveryEmerous In reply to fuckyeahlucas [2018-01-07 20:02:00 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for answering and sorry for not noticing!
Also, the transparency, I mean that I would like to to be the whole background to be transparent, just to have the buttons to use.

fuckyeahlucas In reply to AveryEmerous [2018-01-07 20:13:06 +0000 UTC]
Edit the skin, add "ColorAlpha=0" to the [BackgroundColor] section and the bottom part will be transparent.

the past week or so, this skin has been crashing rainmeter, even when no other skins are loaded. I'm running the latest (non-beta) version or rainmeter, on win7. my specs are high end, so those probably aren't the problem

Oh, that sounds bad. Could you tell me if there are some errors in the Rainmeter logs? Moreover: which version of the Spotify plugin do you have? Both informations can be gathered from the same Rainmeter window in different tabs. Thanks in advance.

you can delete the part of the code which measures if Spotify is running or not and decides if the skin should be visbile or not. but I do not know if this will be enough. since i am really busy with work right now I can't help you any further. try playing with the code, i used a really semantic code which is easily to understand.

Scrolling text is hard to achieve since it is not implemented within Rainmeter. There are several ways to get a scrolling text ... if you know the width of the song title meter. Unfortunately every song has an other width so this wouldn't be that easy.
