Description
Spotify removed the important local API some time ago. This is why all skins broke.
For now we are using a different approach which - unfortunately - needs some tweaking. I hate dependencies but this is the way to go.
It gets harder and harder to keep this skin alive. But it is alive. It is 4 years old by now and still working flawlessly.
The following steps are MANDATORY for a working skin, unfortunately. Read all the instructions first, please!
0. Delete any old version of the old "Spicetify Rainmeter Skin" if you used this skin before.
1. Follow these instruction carefully (5 commands one after an other into PowerShell + Comprehensive Guide available): pastebin.com/87muQXZ2
1.1 If an error occurs at the beginning you need to enable Internet Explorer 11 within the Windows settings and start it once for a properly working PowerShell.
1.2 If an error occurs saying something about a backup, just delete "backup" from the last line "spicetify backup apply" --> "spicetify apply" and press ENTER again
1.3 If an error occurs at the end simply reinstall Spotify as suggested by the script.
2. Install Spotify Control Rainmeter skin.
3. Play a song in Spotify and benefit.
4. After every Spotify client update you need to re-do step #1 (entering all 5 PowerShell commands again)
Features
Custom Right-Click-Menu for resizing (Fully scalable due to vector graphics)
Playback commands for free and premium users with on- and offline Spotify
Completely hidden when Spotify is closed

You might want to change the minimum version to 4.1. You have it set to 4.2, which is the beta.

Since I'm using the beta version to get the latest commits I'll keep it to beta as minimum requirement. Rainmeter betas are actually quite stable, so I suggest everyone to use them!

Is it possible to add a volume control?
π: 0 β©: 1
fuckyeahlucas In reply to jclolerz [2018-03-21 22:02:58 +0000 UTC]
It is indeed possible and planned for the future! Since I will move to China for some months, this skin wont be maintained for the next few months. But you can try to implement it by yourself. The plugin is open source and can be found here: github.com/RobertFrydenlund/Spβ¦
Volume control is already available through the plugin
The measure to add would look like this:
[MeasureVolume]
Measure= Plugin
Plugin=SpotifyPlugin.dll
Type=Volume
The meter to add would roughly look like this:
[MeterLength]
Meter=String
MeasureName=MeasureVolume
MeterStyle=Appearance
StringAlign= xxx
FontSize= (#SCALE #*11)
X= xxx
Y= xxx
DynamicVariables=1

I've been noticing problems with the buttons with regards to not having Premium for Spotify. However, Premium or not, keyboard shortcuts (Ex. Fn + F5) for Pause/Play, Next, and Previous still work. Maybe the dev can code a redirect to that instead? Idk just a thought...

it's same for everyone, he said himself in the description "!!! CONTROL BUTTONS DON'T WORK RIGHT NOW - FIX IS IN DEVELOPMENT !!!"
Also, redirecting those buttons could mess with other applications which use those buttons like Windows Media Player (not that many people still use it lol)

Dead on, what Rainmeter actually does is it sends those button commands directly to the spotify window thus preventing them from being picked up by another program. What happened was since spotify forgot to put the name to identify it on the new build Rainmeter can not find Spotify to send the commands to.
Spotify devs should be aware of the issue now and with any luck it will be addressed in the next update.

Spotify has been tweaking a bunch of stuff all over their apps due to them trying to go public in the near future coz I know their currently cracking down on modded versions on mobile so they must've removed rainmeter compatibility at the same time or something.Β Should be back in a week or two hopefully

tjhrulz In reply to egroeg9 [2018-03-23 23:51:12 +0000 UTC]
Actually it really isn't something they removed really, they switched to an updated system for rendering and forgot to assign a variable that Rainmeter and other programs use to find that window. Since Rainmeter can not find that window Rainmeter can not send media keys directly to that window so it just gives up, in fairness it probably just fallback to sending them globally but then it may control other programs.

I am currently talking to the developer how to allow access for the plugin. I allowed the plugin but I do not remember how. When you open Rainmeter for the first time it should prompt something.

The process for allowing access is automatic and will relaunch the webpage if not authorized.
What is likely happening to these people is that they are not Spotify Premium users, thus they cannot use the playback API.
