Description
Welcome to my first ever Walfas Tutorial. I know arm-to-prop tutorials have been done before, but I believe this to be the fastest method possible to make a posable arm prop for any character that doesn't have any. I hope my fellow Walfasers find it useful, even if you don't use Game Maker 8.Bent Parsee arm by Rumiflan , here.
Thumbs up by Spaztique , here.
Rinnosuke arms by Reimu-and-Cirno , here.
Special thanks to rsgmaker , whose "Walfas Desktop" allowed me to Greenscreen my avatar onto the sprite editor in Game Maker 8.

So Parsee is the Jack Diehard of touhou? Gotcha
i think I know the answer to this since this was in 2014: Does Paint.net do all that alpha stuff and everything else?

I use Photoshop! What I usually do is use the magic wand tool to remove the white areas, so it's relatively easily. Unfortunately, it stills leaves those little pixels around sometimes, so you might want to add the darkness objects behind the arms before doing so, like this guide says, as well as increasing the tolerance of your magic wand.

No idea. I've never used Photoshop. However, if Photoshop supports alpha channels, then I'd imagine that it would work.

What's Alpha Channels?

Basically, it's how transparent a pixel is. Notice to the right of my GM8 Sprite editor, there's a meter for opacity. It ranges from a scale from 0 (totally transparent and cannot be seen), to 255 (totally opaque). I then use the smooth edges command to blend the alphas around the edges of the prop to make it look more smooth.
Alpha channels are necessary because if you made a prop in MS paint, then the area outside the prop would be visible and it would just look ugly.

I don't want to criticize your tutorial but...
Is not this basically the same tutorial LikeThisRLYMatters did?
Well, there was no comic version of this but, the subject is totally the same.

As I said, I know arm-to-prop tutorials have been done before. I just thought I'd share a different method for doing it.

I've actually taken to just making them myself, lately - saves on trying to fix jagged edges/white on the outline ;X
Other than that, I put the prop on a white background, use the magic wand at a high tolerance (~70%), and run AA's Assistant to clean up the edges (Paint.Net plugin, available on the forums).
So, basically the same thing as this (b^.^)b

if you turn create.swf's quality to low there won't be any artifacts to begin with.
(then you can apply the smoothing yourself)

Or you could just use Paint.NET, the "Set Gray to Alpha" plugin and put the arms on a plain white background, then select everything outside the arm up to where the outlines get completely opaque and use the plugin. No need to smoothen anything out. Granted, that method only works well for when the item you wish to isolate has a completely black outline, but it's still my go-to way of doing stuff.
Also, Reimu's arms look freakishly huge in the last panel.

Why didn't I think of that? All I was doing was altering tolerance to get rid of the unwanted white bits!

I know what you mean. I was watching Spaztique 's Cluster Prop video, and I noticed how much he was struggling to get rid of the artifacts on the prinnies. Applying the darknesses makes it so much easier to deal with them.
