Description Yeah, yet more stuff to do with this suit.

I'm still trying to find the right balance of colours with this in terms of aesthetics and practicality. It's definately remaining purple, though it's whether I go with the newer palette or stick with the one from the previous suit design.

I'll give a rundown of my thoughts on each. It also helps to view these designs in greyscale to get an idea of the lower light conditions it's be seen in.

#1 - New palette
PROS: Fresh new colours; strong visual presence reads well in a comic; mixes well with fur and hair colours.
CONS: Colours may be a bit too strong; technically not very stealthy.

#2 - Old palette
PROS: Familiar colours; stealthy & muted colours.
CONS: Unsure if the colours sit right with design, slight saturation change?

#3 - Inverse old palette
PROS: Maintains familiar colours.
CONS: Too light, would be spotted easily even in low light; seems oddly militant.

#4 - Inverse new palette
PROS: Darker colours for lower profile; purple accents.
CONS: Majority is dark blue rather than purple; gloves (and boots) don't look right.

#5 - New palette, old configuration
PROS: A happy medium of tones; low profile yet strong colours.
CONS: Few, aside from the patch on the back of the jacket.

#6 - New palette, darker main colour
PROS: Hard to see in dark conditions.
CONS: Hard to see, period; can't make out details; makes the white fur stand out too much.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Cut loose!

i'd say 1 or 2.. quite frankly.. a stealth suit is a dumb idea outside of Metal Gear Solid because it stands out like a sour thumb no matter what, this does not how ever.. diminish my love for the stealth suit one bit XD OR metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell for that matter no.. saying that, she has white fur.. shes still not gonna be blending in.. shadows with white floating in them? also when it comes to sneaking.. style goes out the window really, it only happens as an accident when form follows design

all that crap being said, this is a comic book, any one who expects all total realisim in one of them can jump in front of a moving truck for all the sense they make.. i say go with what you like best and just make it work. Its amazing what the shadows can hide when the artist wills it to be.

I personally like 4. While it's not as heavy on the purple like you may've preferred, it does seem, to me, to strike a good balance between style and stealth.

And to be frank, the contrast between blue and purple really brings out her... features from behind, in a way the other configurations don't.

Well, If I had to use one of those, I'd go with #2 or #3. While I think #2 looks better, I believe #3 is more practical as it's not too dark nor too bright. For camouflage to work properly, it's important that it has the right colours, and the right brightness. Too bright or too dark will make you stick out in most environments.

That's one of my main concerns about the design, though I have the impression that #3 would make her stand out too much in general. It would be fine for lighter conditions, though I think it might give too much of an outline in lower light. I could be wrong about that though, that's just my impression.

SteveBarkin In reply to funkyalien [2009-04-22 18:52:03 +0000 UTC]

Pardon me for saying so, but it isn't supposed to be perfectly realistic, is it? She'd have to cover the rest of her face, ears and tail in which case.

I'd probably go with #2 if I were you.
I prefer serious comics, movies and such to be at least fairly trustworthy. Otherwise I'll just get hung up on the flaws. Such as the fact that Old Snake couldn't possibly aim properly the way he's holding his M4 in MGS4.
But that's just my oppinion.

Anyway, you should go with the one you like the best.

funkyalien In reply to SteveBarkin [2009-04-23 14:39:41 +0000 UTC]

You're totally right, there - this isn't going to be totally realistic. In order for her to be totally effective in a completely realistic situation she'd have to cover every inch of her body so as not to be seen, and more to the point, not to leave forensic evidence in the way of stray hairs and fur (though, as fur doesn't leave a root I believe the best information forensics would get would be the species and breed). I'm taking a fair few liberties with it though, as the nature of the characters in the story kinda demands that I do. There's also a lot I'm thinking about to solve problems though. I could think up some good reasons why certain things aren't an issue, but they're not things I'd need to actually explain unless asked directly.

But back to the coverings; I'm taking this one as more of a design choice more than anything. I still want to be able to show her face and emotions while she's in costume, while having enough covered to be plausible. The design still needs work though, and I'll probably cover up the tail in the end. I'd still prefer to keep the fingers and feet free though, from a design point of view.

#2 is probably going to be my choice colour-wise since it seems to have a good balance as many have mentioned. I'll raise the saturation slightly to bring a little more depth to the colours while keeping the overall tones of that version.

heh, first of all, I didn't comment on your first posts of this suit but it looks awsome!

I like 2 and 5-- 5 mostly because it's a bit more interesting with a shade of purple and still dark enough to be stealthy

funkyalien In reply to Valejandra-Fox [2009-04-22 14:00:11 +0000 UTC]

I think a mix between the two would work pretty well. The general shades of #2 but with very slightly more saturated colours to bring more depth into it

3 just looks the coolest for some reason, if its too light maybe you could keep those colors but make them darker? also I'm a big fan of black, which is great for stealth. maybe a black and purple suit? It would be nice and dark, and break up her outline

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyalien In reply to Talonclawfange [2009-04-22 13:58:31 +0000 UTC]

True, though I'm trying to keep black out of her colour palette for the most part. I'mwanting the outfit to be dark enough to be stealthy, but with the right balance of shades and colours that the details are still visible. Don't want too strong a contrast against her fur either.

I could solve all these problems by just covering up any exposed fur, but I wanna take some design liberties like that since it makes it more interesting visually

lol I agree...luv this character design, and its cool to see someone putting so much deep thought into the clothes. I ususally just slap something on my characters for better or worse XD sometimes it looks great others i go "....man. what was i THINKING with that?" lol

funkyalien In reply to Talonclawfange [2009-04-23 14:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, yeah the thing with design is that it at least has to look plausible even if it might not work. I'm trying to get everything on this outfit to sit well together and all the parts of it should be there for a good reason rather than just for show. It's a pain in the but sometimes, but the design works out nicely for it.

That said, sometimes I just go at it and see what stick from a purely visual point of view. If it looks good, just run with it

Talonclawfange In reply to funkyalien [2009-04-23 16:22:44 +0000 UTC]

I am on to #2 and #3. Given the function of the suit I have to go with #2.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Karzed [2009-04-19 21:55:31 +0000 UTC]

My personal choice would be #1, simply because it's a distinct look. Comic chars need iconic details in their appearance and in this case Felicia's purple suit would give an appropriate impression.

In regards of realism: yeah, ok, in reality types like #2 and #6 would be the best for stealth operations, but I mean, Elektra for example sports bright red and is a highly successful assassin. Well, Snake's iconic suit looks more like #3 and isn't everything but bright... You apparently modelled them after Snake/Sam Fisher's suits, so I assume you prefer the darker types.

But she could wear brighter colours anyways, the in-universe explanation could be that she uses stun grenades to keep her presence unnoticed. Or she simply knocks guards unconscious.

Hope my layman comment is of any use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyalien In reply to Karzed [2009-04-19 22:13:01 +0000 UTC]

Very much so, actually

This design for her suit was inspired by Snake and Fisher's suits (mainly Fisher's) as well as some other references found while looking around. They're both good reference points, as well as the traditional ninja stylings.

I think in terms of stealth and colour balance, #2 and #5 would be my choices. For design choice it'd probably be #1, though I'm starting to find those colours to be too strong and vibrant, which kinda ruins the stealth element. I think #2 needs to be a little more saturated, but I'm drifting more towards it.

I would have to say number 2 is my favorite, with numbers 3 and 4 being the runners up.

The muted tones of #3 compliment White Shadow's fur well, though #2s darker colors look far stealthier.

I'm sure the final colors you choose will look great and I look forward to seeing it.

funkyalien In reply to Twin-Kamon [2009-04-19 22:18:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm tending more towards #2 due to the balance of colours against her fur. I just think that #3 is far too bright, though strangely enough, if it were all white I'd probably be cool with it. Weird design thing there I guess.

When I look to the inverse old color palette I keep thinking "Something makes me thing of The Boss from MGS 3"

I think the more... muted colors would be better, because they would be harder to spot then the more vibrant purples.

funkyalien In reply to Chebits [2009-04-19 21:28:26 +0000 UTC]

I got a pretty strong Metal Gear vibe from #3, which is probably why it felt kinda militant to me. Can't really say I'm a fan of it since she's more of a frelancer than anything.
Muted colours would be a good choice though, from the practicality standpoint.

Chebits In reply to funkyalien [2009-04-19 22:26:11 +0000 UTC]

They would. Also, they look nice with her fur and hair colors. The more saturated colors just enhance her white fur and make her stand out better.

I dunno, I think I prefer 3 regardless of the cons. It looks more... I dunno, it looks better. xD

Otherwise, 2 is second-best.

The brighter colours just take something away from the design for me, so I really like the muted tones. *Nod.*
