New Avatar_Mode_XY found here.I wanted to make a new challenge mode for Pokemon and I like the show Avatar the last Airbender so I came up with this.
Most types have reasoning to why they are in the Nation they are assigned.
Air:
Flying because air and flying go hand in hand.
Psychic because monks are very spiritual.
Ghost because once again, spiritual.
Bug because it was the last type not assigned anywhere.
Water:
Water because, well water.
Ice because water benders are known to control ice too.
Grass because of the swamp benders.
Poison due to blood bending, makes sense in my mind...
Fire:
Fire because.... do I have to say it?
Dark because they get overpowered by the solar eclipse.
Electric because of lightning benders.
Dragon because they taught the original fire benders.
Earth:
Ground because it's what the earth is made of.
Rocks, seriously, same as ground.
Steel because of metal bending.
Fighting because they are skilled fighters, aggressive.
A lot of people have said "Oh well you can't be [insert nation here] and have a starter!" and my response to that is, catch a normal type on the first route since there usually IS one and box the starter never to be used again. It's that simple.
Please try it out, should be a fun new experience in Pokemon for any and all players. Show it to your friends! Draw up the Avatar Mode run that you did! If you make a comic based on this please send it to me!

Thanks a lot! I do kinda regret doing the nuzlocke and the avatar mode challenge in one challenge video, but I thought at the time that it would add more of a challenge to it. I will see how it goes with the nuzlocke and then if that fails then I will try the avatar mode challenge on its own without the nuzlocke rules.

So if you were to use something like, for example, Aerodactyl, would that count as the Earth or Air..? Or would it just not count at all?

Depends on your play style, you could play where only the primary counts in your nation or if it can be primary or secondary, it's up to you.

Hmm, when fairy type is used, it is the same nation as the Avatar.Β Maybe you should make the fairy type off limits for everyone, since only the Avatar could use fairy types, and if everyone viewing the challenge sees "You're not the Avatar", then that means that there is no Avatar.

Poison makes sense as well for Water bending due to gas, fog, or steam. Gas is seen as a poison around the world especially due to pollution plus it is one of the three states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas.
You have Psychic and Ghost for Air bending which makes sense too because Psychic can represent the serenity and peace of the monks at the Air Temples or it can represent the Avatar State. Ghost due to the fact that the Avatar can enter the spirit world and could also count as reincarnation for the Avatar's past lives.
Dark makes sense for Fire bending because the solar eclipse is what gives the Fire benders their strength as well as them being the main antagonists of the first series.
Overall this is a neat idea and I shall partake in both Fire and Water bending for two different runs.

So in the second season of the legend of korra, water benders are shown to be able to use spiritual energy to calm down dark spirits. Since fairy beats dark and dragon, and water beats fire (which also has dragon in it) maybe fairy should go into water? Or at the very least, maybe you could make an alternate version for legend of korra

hey funnyman, I'm going to be doing this challenge for my twitch stream, and I was wondering if the move set applies to the charts as well? or as an example, can i have a water/electric pkmn in the fire nation that can use surf as an attack?

It all depends on your interpretation. If you want a harder challenge then you can use only moves from you're nation, heck, you could limit it so that you can't use normal types at all if you want it more challenging. If you're looking to just have fun with it then just follow the rules and make up other stipulations yourself. I don;t know if you would want a tougher challenge since you're on Twitch, but either way send me a link to when you're doing it if it's liv, I;d like to watch someone do the challenge in real time!

If your still trying to decide what to do with the bug type after putting fairy in air, I have a pretty good idea (in my opinion) that you could use if you wanted: fire, water, and earth nations remain unchanged, fairy replaces bug in air nation, and then make a new group for non-benders that would be only normal and bug. Non-benders would pick a nation to be affiliated with, so like any non-bender can use pure bug and pure normal types, but only an air nomad non-bender could us pidgeotto, and only a water tribe non-bender could use bibarel. Also, the regular nation members (the ones in the picture) would only be able to use normal and bug types that have their element as well, so only non-benders can use pure normal types

So I've been thinking. With the reveal of megas, how will those work in this challenge? For example, lets say they make a mega gyarados that is water/dragon type. Would some using the fire nation be able to use a gyarados, even though it would only become part dragon in battle after obtaining the specific item?

It all depends on how the Mega Stonesare activated. For example if they only activate when a Pokemon is in the "red health" then it wouldn't make any sense to have the Mega's typing count since it's only that type for 20% of it's time.

Once you activate it, it lasts the whole battle. It's basically no different than any other form change caused by a held item.

Yeah, I'm not sure, I think people will have to decide for themselves. Me personally would not count Mega Evolution typing, even though so far it hasn't mattered since the only one who's gained a type is Ampharos who is already in the Fire Nation anyways.

Great challenge! Just finished it on White with the Water Nation, and switched Dark for Poison, since I really wanted Purrloin, and I reasoned since Water is associated with the moon it worked XD Pretty easy since you can usually get some advantage, but made the game more interesting
