Description
Original Avatar_Mode found here.My Avatar Mode for players of Pokemon X and Y versions.
Some rules here don't apply to the original Avatar Mode.
All:
Pure Normal because they are generally "ordinary" and everyday Pokemon.
Bug because anyone can catch a bug in real life, also tend to be weaker.
Air:
Flying because air and flying go hand in hand.
Psychic because monks are very spiritual.
Ghost because once again, spiritual.
Fairy because monks love all living creatures and they slay dragons (Fire Nation).
Water:
Water because, well water.
Ice because water benders are known to control ice too.
Grass because of the swamp benders.
Poison due to blood bending.
Fire:
Fire because.... do I have to say it?
Dark because they are generally seen as the "bad guys". (Don't read too much into that.)
Electric because of lightning benders.
Dragon because they taught the original fire benders.
Earth:
Ground because it's what the earth is made of.
Rocks, seriously, same as ground.
Steel because of metal bending.
Fighting because they are skilled fighters, aggressive.
EDIT: A fan suggested an alternate way to play where you ARE the avatar.
Basically you start out as one nation, of your choice, and as you get more gym badges
you can add on in order (Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Air, Water, etc.).
After the 2nd badge you'd be able to use Pokemon of the next nation,
after the 5th badge you would start using Pokemon of the next, and you'll be able to use any
Pokemon after the 7th badge, allowing you a little time to train your Pokemon before
challenging the league.Β

I would assume if a Mega would take it out of it's nation (ie An Air Nation player has Gyarados on it's team) that'd be against the rules.
As for rule 4, I guess it depends, you'd have to ALWAYS make it mega and never use it unless it's in Mega form.

Too viral, this deviantArt! The two franchises mix so well because of this picture that I decided to watch Digimon Seasons 1 and 2 alongside Last Airbender and Korra respectively.
Drew this because I love drawing cute stuff and I loved Veemon and Momo:
In short notice, only Digimon rivals Avatar in terms of Pokemon crossovers, okay, other Nintendo franchises as well, but still.

I find Digimon and Avatar mostly unrelated if not for Pokemon. One is sci-fi, and the other is fantasy.

Depends how you wanna play it, if you wanna do Primary Bug types or all Bug types, then yeah. If you wanna do Pure Bug Type/Your Nation, then no.Β
It's all up to the level of challenge you want to impose on yourself really.

Genius point for Ghost associated with Air! Ghost are associated to spirit which it is made of air and lung are know to purify the spirit throught blood pipe.
Even for Electric with Fire cause ignition.
Even with Poison and Water as it is liquid and deadly! The opposite of Water which is liquid and vital.
Obviously, a pokemon can use any type of attacks while its type belongs to a nation.
The challenge recquire a lot of pokemon knowledge in order to get teh right pokemon.
I love how you class each type to an element! It also bring a good twist to the gameplay!

You could have an HM user on your team and just not use it in battle. Most regional rodents can learn most of the HMs and they're universally normal type and available to use with these rules, barring Bibarel, Diggersby, and A-Rattata.
Anyways I doubt it would be an issue unless you're doing a nuzlocke, in which case you could look up how other nuzlockers or mono-type players get past the issue.

It depends on which nation you're supposedly playing as, which type of bender. In the case being Autumn, I decided to go with Syther, Ralts, and Ghastly, although I ran into a problem with getting a fairy type because you need a 3DS to have any Fairy types at all. I mentioned your artwork to my brother and we talked about it over the summer, came up with our own varifications on the challenge.
In fact, you have given Avatar a connection with Pokemon so strong that I at one time watched both Avatar series in conjunction with Digimon Seasons 1 and 2.

I'm actually doing this for Alpha Sapphire. I've gotten bored of the same old playthrough, but this is a new...taste, I suppose. It has a certain feel to it, like it makes it harder to battle or easier to put together a team.
I've chosen the Water Tribe, gotten myself a Water Tribe-sounding nickname, and rolled through literally everyone. You have no idea what a Marshtomp-Linoone-Beautifly-Roselia-Tentacruel-Castform lineup can do to Team Aqua, the Gyms, Kyogre, random Trainers, May, Wally, et cetera.
My only regret is not finding this earlier.
Over all, 10/10, would use it again. (Maybe for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.)

No, he would still retain the Fire typing so you'd be fine. Unless you're playing with the rule that makes you ONLY have your nations' typing.Β
That rule is more for something like, a water nation player using Surskit, if they evolve it, it no longer is water nation compatible, only air nation can use Masquerain.

Okay, my brother and I discussed this and my brother came up with his own mods for the Pokemon game, creating three starters for each nation:
Fire Nation
Charmander
Shinx or Mareep
Macjop
Air Nomads
Syther
Ralts
Ghastly
Water Tribes
Horsea
Snivey
Sneasal
Earth Kingdom
Cubone
Larivitar
Nidoran
About each of the types:
Fairy seems to make Air a bit overpowered, so I decided to make the Fairy type connected with the White Lotus. As of the other three nations, Dark, Poison, and Fighting have rotated with them for the following reasons:
Dark has been assigned to Water because of bloodbending and how evil it turned out to be in Legend of Korra and the Last Airbender, not to mention that waterbending is powered by the moon and its cycle, especially bloodbending, which rumors have it, only work at the full moon. Needless to say, bloodbending is very cynical.
Poison has been assigned to the Earth Kingdom because of what happened to Korra herself towards the end of Season 3 of LoK. There had been poisonous substances throughout the series, but Earthbenders were the ones that had been able to actually bend poison. "The Painted Lady" featured Toph extracting pollution from the water. The very end of Season 3 of LoK featured the bending of mercury. Plus, lavabending, which seems to be very toxic in nature, is an Earthbending capability.
Fighting has therefore been assigned to the Fire Nation because of the four elements, Fire is the element of Chi and the bending of the positive and negative energy, not to mention it is usually the most aggressive element as far as bending is concerned. Of course, in TLA, aggression and aspire to power is what lead to the Hundred Year War in the first place. Even Zuko when he turned good still remained the emo part of the group. Of the newer Team Avatar, Mako was the most serious.
Another addition to make to the rules is that there are three Pokemon types that a certain bender can use. The three starters available for the bender represent those three types, except for Ralts, as explained below:
Fire starts with...
Fire
Electric
Fighting
Air starts with...
Flying
Bug
Ghost
Water starts with...
Water
Ice
Grass
Earth starts with...
Rock
Ground
Poison
This represents that the bender is a simple bender in training, an apprentice level bender. After 4 badges, the bender becomes a master level bender and therefore unlocks the following type:
Fire
Dragon
Air
Psychic
Water
Dark
Earth
Steel
Now, as for the Avatar, you start out as if you are the apprentice level bender of your own nation. You get your first badge and you unlock the master level type. The next badge after that and you unlock three more types from the next element of the Avatar Cycle, followed by the fourth master bender type of that element with the 3rd badge. Pattern continues until the 7th badge in which you unlock all but one Pokemon type. 8th Badge and you become a fully fledged Avatar and therefore can capture Legendary Pokemon assigned to your native nation. There is a chance that if you lose a match with the 8th Badge, you can start the whole challenge all over but reincarnated into the next nation in the Avatar Cycle and keep all of your saves, as if they are memories of your past lives.
Now, as the Avatar, you can cheat the rules (and use Gameshark) any time you like and use any Pokemon you wish, but if you do so, you go into the Avatar State in which you can neither run nor lose a fight, even if it's just a wild Pokemon. If you lose only that one match, you fail the challenge completely and must delete all of your saved games. (The avatar cycle has ended)
There are two things I can do with the Fairy type. One is I can make Fairy an option for Waterbenders (as they are healers), but they can't handle both Fairy and Dark. If that's the case, the Avatar would unlock Fairy a badge later after unlocking Water, Ice, and Grass, but not Dark. The other thing is that Fairy can be unlock-able after the 8th Badge as a member of the White Lotus or as a fully fledged Avatar.

You can adjust the rules as you see fit, but in the basic rules
written here the idea would be to limit yourself to Pokemon
within your nation. So you would have to either switch to Air
or not use them on your team with these specific rules.
You could add a rule to your play through that states "Due to
the trio of Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf residing in the three great
lakes of Sinnoh, they are to be members of the Water Nation
in order to reflect their natural habitats." or something.

So My question is...are you endorsing and accepting the Alternate Avatar rule officially to where it could be an actual option for people planning a run with this rule set...
Also I have a suggestion for a slight rule change as well
"Any pokemon can be caught and used so long as one of its types Is approved for your nation however It can only use/know moves of an approved type for your nation"
This kinda plays off how normal types work in that one type must match up with your chosen nation however it does not limit the player just because one type does not match while also keeping some challenge and limitations in the area of the pokemon's attacks
(IE say im a fire nation player under this rule i now can capture a Magnimite however It can only know and use Electric moves if it was captured knowing Steel moves I would not be allowed to use them though it would be allowed to still know them until such time that the Steel move can be forgotten for an Electric move)
I would also say that Normal moves are an exception to this as all pokemon learn them and normal is useable by all nations
please tell me what you think I am in the planning phases for an Alpha Sapphire Avatar mode here soon and thus would like to know Β Β

The Alternate Avatar rule was just something I thought I would
put out in the description so that people can adjust their gameplay
accordingly if they choose to do so. I personally prefer straight upΒ
doing it one nation, but others may enjoy a different play style.
As for the additional rules pertaining to moves, in my mind, this rule set
is the "Vanilla" rule set, so to speak. Board games have aΒ set of rules
provided by the company, but most people end up taking outΒ or adding
rules based on what the "house" prefers, either to make the game easier,
harder, faster, or longer. I see the aforementioned Alternate Avatar rule
and your rule upon move limitations to be examples of these "house rules".
If you go through the comments on this deviation, you'll find a few house
rules that others have come up with, including certain types being moved,
normal and FIGHTING being the catch all Pokemon, etc etc. I think people
should play the way they want to play, I merely created this style of play
in order to get an idea I came up with out into the world and allow people
a platform to play a new and different play through of Pokemon. You can
add and subtract rules as you wish, they'd just be your house rules.

The way I see it, Water nation can use either "small" or Mega Gyarados,
but if you are in Fire nation you MUST mega evolve it as soon as it is sent out,
and you can't use it's mega if you are in the Air nation, only it's "small" form.
