Description So I decided to do one of these influence map things to put all the things that inspire me in one place. I'm not sure that you could necessarily call all of these influences, but it's close enough. I may update this in a while if I feel it's no longer relevant.

So, here t goes:

Space: I think that's pretty self-explanatory. I love looking at pictures of space and the galaxy. Something about the beauty and mystery of it, the fact that there's so much out there that we haven't seen yet, gives me chills. (Fun Fact: when I was little I wanted to be the first artist in space)

Summer: Everything about summer inspires me. It's warmer, the days are longer, and people in general seem to be more outgoing. Plus, all the things that are considered "summer-y" inspire me as well, such as water (e.g. pool, ocean, etc.), sunsets, warm colors, and the like.

Animation: I love animated films. Doesn't matter if they're 2-D or 3-D. I find color palettes and imagery in films like The Croods, How to Train Your Dragon, Wall-E, or Avatar: the Last Airbender (I know it's not a film, but it's animated and that's what counts) are all so amazing. When I watch them I can't help but want to draw, although usually I get so caught up in the movie that  just have to watch.

Travel: This is kind of relate to space, in that there's so much out there to see. Pictures like the one above inspire me, mostly with the travel bug!

Hair: I love to draw hair! Mostly hair that looks interesting, like curly hair, or hair underwater. There's something about it that makes me go, "Beautiful hair! Must draw!"

Alternative: I've been listening to a lot of alternative music lately. I like to listen to it when I paint, because the fast pace and aggressive attitude makes me work faster, and my strokes are generally more expressive. Btw, the picture is a screen shot from the music video for Gold Lions by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which can be found here -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMMkP_…

Retro: I love all things old. There was a craftsmanship and beauty to everything that just isn't found in things today, like furniture, cars, even the way women did their hair! Have you ever tried pin curling? It is not easy or quick.

Impressionism: I've recently found that I love impressionism artist, specifically ones that works in pastels. I actually had to copy the picture above as a course assignment (It's called Lydia Leaning on Her Arms by Mary Cassatt, for anyone who is wondering). It was very interesting, trying to translate pastels to acrylics. I think what really struck me was her use of color and how she broke it down and layered them. Some of my top artist picks from the impressionist period are Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt. Klimt is a recent fave, read the link to see why -> chrisoatley.com/gustav-klimt-d…

Japan: Japan has been a huge influence to me ever since I picked up my first manga. I love the culture and language, and of course the style of animation and manga. All of Hayao Miyazaki's films are AH-mazing sources of inspiration. YOUNG ARTISTS BEWARE: I know how-to's for manga style illustrations are super easy to access on the internet, because manga style how-to's are pretty much all you find when you google "how to draw ____". But if you sincerely want to learn how to draw better, know this; learning how to draw in a particular style will only impede your ability to grow as a artist. All the greats learned how to draw from life before they developed a style, and because of this they could draw of paint anything they wanted in that style. One example of this is Vincent van Gogh (which he also was inspired by Japanese prints as you'll see in the second video -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=LieOLx…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE_wA0…

CT: 's work inspires me because his style s pretty much the style I wish I had. (actually kind of copied the way he did his influence map ,*shhh* don't tell him) I WISH I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW HE DOES HIGHLIGHTS!!! DX

Jemma Salume: Also known as Oxboxer. I love her use of line and color, and her compositions are amazing! And she as a well developed style. If I had money I would so buy her stuff on Society 6,

Nature: Last but not least, nature is a great source of inspiration. The northern lights in the picture, the jungle, clouds (ugh, I love clouds!), trees. All that good stuff.

I guess that's all of it. It would seem reaching is a theme as well, and purples and red hues.
