Description
I thought I should make one of these.Keith Thompson. ~Keithwormwood . I found his artwork when I got a copy of Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. The illustrations were so beautiful that I immediately looked Keith Thompson up online and found his gallery. I love all of his artwork, but I think the illustrations for Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy remain my favorite. They are what got me interested in illustration. Website - www.keiththompsonart.com/
Stephanie Pui-Mun Law. ~puimun . If Keith Thompson got me into illustration, Stephanie Pui-Mun Law got me into watercolor. I love her use of color and texture. Her paintings are just so, so beautiful. Not to mention that they are mainly fantasy - another great passion of mine. Website - www.shadowscapes.com/
Nene Thomas. When I was eleven years old, my family went on a trip to Seattle. There we briefly went into a shop that sold a lot of fantasy art. I saw the artwork of Nene Thomas and became entranced; for my birthday I received her art book. I loved her paintings, both watercolor and digital, so much that I started trying to draw figures. To this day I still love her artwork. The print that hangs above my desk is her "Angel White." Website - nenethomas.com
*sandara I love her digital paintings. They have a suburb use of color and some of them seem so vibrant that they practically glow. The style is wonderful too. I've tried to make my own digital paintings, but so far non of them have turned out like hers.
Fantasy. Almost all of my artwork is fantasy or inspired by fantasy. I've been reading it continuously since childhood. This category obviously ties in with books and stories, but I thought it deserved it's own spot. Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Cornelia Funke, Jonathan Stroud, Holly Black, J.K. Rowling, Illona Andrews, Robin McKinley, Diana Wynne Jones, and Patrica C. Wrede are my favorite fantasy authors. Their work and other books have inspired me to create my own world and characters, many of whom are depicted in my artwork.
History. This probably ties into my love of fantasy. The past is in many ways a different world.
Heidi Celeghin and other art teachers. ~HeidiCeleghin . I would definitely not be the artist I am today (or ever become the one I hope to be) if it weren't all the art teachers that I've had over the years. Special acknowledgement goes to Heidi Celeghin (the coolest art teacher ever, who's shown me that it's actually possible to make a living as an artist) and Marla Robertson (my first art teacher).
Nature. Mountains and forests especially. Our family vacations are usually to national parks, and always someplace cold. Canada, Alaska, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, England and Scotland, Norway, Washington state... all of these have had an influence on me. Notice how I always seem to have mountains in my paintings?
*Fahlaemee and other DeviantART photo-manipulators. I've learned so much from photo manipulations especially about lighting and color. If I have to choose just one photo-manipulator, I would chose Fahlaemee for her lovely colors and atmosphere.
Stories and books. I love stories. I love the flow of the narrative and the feeling of something big building up. It's wonderful and powerful, and I don't think anything else effects me so strongly.
