It was the hardest part, yes. That said, working in black and white made it easier than it might have been otherwise.

Yeah, I was always a fan of their helmets... the regular stormtrooper helmet always struck me as being sort of silly-looking.

Wow, that's really awesome, especially the fact that you didn't use lineart. I really like the pose and the shading alot.

Going without lineart is difficult at first, but it always has some interesting results. Definitely worth trying out!

It's definitely easier to do lineart-less drawings if it's digital...

Man, i need to learn to speed paint, but i just dont have the skills or correct usage of open canvas yet to do so. Good work, but I'd shade the gun a little more.

Haha, you've pointed out one of the weakest aspects of the drawing... I spent like 2 minutes on the gun because I was too lazy to look for a reference. Personally for me I don't think this should be an actual deviation because the quality is a bit lower than what I'm accustomed to. Ah well, it was fun.

Hell, dont worry about making it a deviation. If all else fails, just put it in your scraps later. I post damn near everything, especially if it has color, just to hear what ppl have to say. And ya know, its like stream of concious writing. Ya don't erase it just because it doesn't meet your standards...someone else might get inspired (or get a better idea how to speed paint aka me) because of it. Thanks for the deviation!

True true... that's sort of my reasoning for not directly uploading it to scraps as well. Thanks!

Thanks, like always I like to experiment with different styles; I think this is the third one I've done this way, the other two being the 'Dark Kenshin' and the "Battle Droid". It's pretty fun just to slap down colors and them see what you get. (Nice sig, by the way)

Having a tablet really helps digital work a lot, even though there's definitely a learning curve to get over. What were you looking for?

I just need a tablet that's competent, not buggy, and will last. I'm going to use it mainly for lineart. (Comic drawing will be much expedited)
I've also got some ideas on how to use it for shading and painting. I just want one so I can mess around. XD

It really does make coloring on the computer a lot more fun. I got mine second-hand off of Ebay, a 4x6 Graphire which wasn't too expensive. Some scratches, but good enough.

Wow,nice. So that's what speedpainting is. Is it hard speedpainting?

Funnytoss In reply to Kamiruchan [2007-05-23 03:32:51 +0000 UTC]
Not really... well I'd say it depends on the subject. Because he's wearing a helmet, drawing these sorts of 'Stormtrooers' is easier for me to speedpaint as opposed to someone with an actual face.
