You really did an excellent job with this!

The first thing I noticed was the "pillow shading" which is when it's shaded in evenly for the whole thing with no defined light source.  Since it was actually like that in the original image, I'm not completely blaming you for that.     You do shade very well in your other drawings, so this was probably a one time thing. In the picture here it looks like the light is coming from the upper left, so most of their bodies should be in shadow, with highlights from the water, which I see you have done in some places and it looks lovely!

Now the stone.  The stone is amazing--both stones actually!  The color, shading, and slight texture is spot on, and beautiful!  10/10 for that!
You have a ton of potential and I hope you continue to experiment with your digital art, as you have a real knack for it as far as I've seen!~

Thank you for your kind words .

The image as a whole is a bit of a cheat as I didn't do it in one big spree over a time.  I spent the better part of 6 months doing a bit and getting happy with it, then the next day not being able to replicate the same quality and giving up in frustration for another month lol.  At the time, I knew very little about shading tbh and, though I knew how to do the technical part of it, I knew nothing about how to actually place the light source.  In hind-sight, I would change much of how this is done!

Regarding the stones...  It's the first time I've ever looked at something after finishing it and 'still' been happy with it lol.

Of course!  ^u^
It's really interesting to watch other artists as they become great!
You know, a remake of this in the future would probably be an impressive improvement, maybe not
right now, but maybe a few years?  Personally I'd like to go remake one of my oldest drawings sometime to
see how much I can change in terms of execution and technique!

You definitely should be happy with them!  I've seen lots of rocks, but yes, they seem hard to get just right like this!~

In all honesty, I've only been doing art 'regularly', new items at least once or twice a week, even if not uploaded, since about December just gone.  So, I get the feeling that notable further progression will probably take quite a few years .

From Project Comments

As a learning artwork you have done a great job and since you are learning I'll try my best to point out any shortcomings I see
Over all its a very good effort especially you have done a very good job with characters, shadowing is very good and colors are well balanced, however, the outlining is not very fine you need to work on outlining. But overall you have done an exceptional job with characters

As good as the characters are unfortunately, background does not go well with them. Coloring water, in my opinion  is the toughest thing to do and you seem to have struggled with it. The water fall  needs more detailing but I do like the falling effect, the white glittering droplets is a good addition and the fog created from water fall looks original. Now to main problem, the water itself. Coloring and shadowing is the main thing here and you have struggled, but it was a trial art so making such mistake is a given, no need to be disappointed. You seem to have used very darker colors for water, in my opinion if you would use lighter colors with a mix of dark and another tone darker would help greatly, but generally water tends to have lighter colors ( naturally its colorless ).

The bank of the stream, on the other hand is nicely done and I can't find a single wrong thing with that. The bushes are also well done, but not as good as the bank. Trying more shades of green will help you create perspectives better and it will look much more realistic.

Overall as a trial art, this is a very good attempt and I can tell that you have great talent, just need to keep trying and you will be coloring as a pro pretty soon, YES! pretty soon.

 GOOD LUCK!

I hope you find my critiques helpful

 Take Care

P.S: put you on my watch list wanna see more art from you in future..

Thank you very much, for the watch in particular .

It was indeed a trial and tbh, I agree with everything you said.  I knew the water was wrong on just about every level, but even now I've no idea how I can get it 'right'.  I'd say that at this point, I just don't have that particular knowledge, but I'll get there!

The problem I have with it is I look at things very logically and if I can see an order of how it works, I can generally run with it and make something that at least 'seems' right.  Water however seems to defy all of that (probably due to being inherently reflective) and everything I try just looks worse lol.  But, I just need to knuckle down and do a study on it once I've finished anatomy.

I was pleased however as, aside from a few scrap-book pieces that were never finished due to a computer virus years ago () this is the first digital piece I ever sat down to actually finish.

I hope you like the rest of what you see, though lately I have been focusing mostly on Manga and Anime.  I am planning on doing some 90s cartoon pieces though as I am working on a D&D campaign influenced by an old cartoon called Visionairies .

Keep up with the photo's and maybe try it out at some nature reserves etc .  I found some of them can come out exceptionally well .  There's quite a lot of animal/landscape photography in my galleries lol!
