Description
Please, view full size. And thank you so much for any favourites and comments. They warm my soul.I put this up simply because all my pictures are so darn big and I'm tired of watching all the detail disappear every time I shrink them down. I wept blood for that detail, dammit! Also, whilst I like how the burning village came out the perspective is way off. When I get a chance I'll go back and edit the full sized image, town and all.
So, what is this? Bishop, a ranger and one of the companions from the RPG Neverwinter Nights 2. He's an all around nasty piece of work and great fun to have around. This is a scene from his back story when he's training to become an assassin. The final test is the razing of a village and, carrying a bit of a grudge, Bishop chooses his own home village. He seriously fails his exam by changing his mind and trying to warn the villagers. He then turns on his fellow assassins, almost getting killed in the process.
I spent ages on this and learned a lot, not the least about textures. I love textures. I went with the iconic Mad Max/Terminator/Hawke/general hero pose after much ruminating. I know it's been used to death but that's how the image lodged itself in my mind when I first thought of it a couple of years ago.

Wonderful update, I love the added facial detail. I'm so looking forward to see the same attention to...erm....detail you are going to put into the scantily clad barbarian lass that you've promised R and me

Heh, Bishop in a nutshell. You wouldn't want to bring him home and show your parents but a quick fling perhaps...

My boyfriend definitely wouldn't approve if he found Bishop in the bedroom.

I'm glad you uploaded this, because I totally think the details you put in here are worth a fullview!
I hope Bishop can forgive me that I'm actually paying more attention to see what techniques and brushes you used rather than his hunky self... although he certainly deserves the attention, too - love his eyes, and the hair!
I love the textures and lighting details you added to his armour, and how good your blood looks!

Thank you once again! I'll try not to reveal to Bishop that you prefer his brush strokes...
The textures are from CG textures and they were so much fun to use. I'll probably go back and re work some of the earlier pictures and put in some textures. As for the blood I'm glad you mentioned it since I ended up using a series of brushes that I didn't intend to and now you've reminded me of that I really should put in a link for them. I'll do that this weekend.
Hm, Bishop's eyes are always fun, in fact eyes are fun full stop. I always loved doing eyes. His hair is simply an important part of his ridiculously boyish looks so I spent some time working on that too.
I shall now go and preen myself and play a bit of NWN 2.

I bet Bishop knows that already - the scoundrel!
CG Textures is a true lifesaver - I use the textures there for my 3D models, and the quality is really good!
Have fun with NWN2! I actually got sucked in by Dragon Age 2 a week ago, and I hope it will release me again once I have finished my first playthrough. I never thought I'd like it that much because I was very skeptic about it in the beginning, but I love it!
Damn, just look at all the new art bunnies that game created... I really need more time to work on all of them!

I'm game, as long as you insert Bishop and/or Liliana art every now and then.
I enjoy DA2 but find DAO much more...gripping, solid, well crafted...DA2 feels slightly shallow in comparison, despite it's sleekness and cool fighting and whatnot. Either way, enjoy! I'm actually playing DAO, DA2 and NWN 2 parallel to each other and boy does it mess with my controls.

I have to admit that I have a lovely Bishop and Liliana autumn-themed artwork stuck in the post-production process because DA2 was a bit distracting...
But the weekend is coming, so I should have some time for both art and computer gaming!
And I can totally believe that it's difficult to switch between so many games at the same time - but it keeps your brain on its toes, so it's not bad at all!
I'm playing a pro-Mage rogue Hawke this time, and boy does she have fun in a fight! I was totally surprised that she ended up with Anders (romancewise) because I was so certain that I'd fall for Fenris the second he appeared on screen... but that tormented mage simply sneaked his way into her heart, and now I'll let him stay there.
I'll probably try a mean, pro-Templar Hawke next, and that one will go for Fenris.
It has been a long time since I've played DA Origins, but I really like it that DA2 feels so much more... personal, I guess, because the quests are more like problems from an adventurer's everyday life and not the huge save-the-world high fantasy plot (at least up to the end of Act II, I managed to successfully duell the Arishok yesterday ). I like that!

Oh, I'm a sucker for more Bishop/Liliana stuff.
Heh, it just goes to show how perceptions differ. Despite the more 'personal' touch of the quests in DA2 I find it paradoxically less personal and it simply does not engage me emotionally as much. I think it's more in how the game presents itself rather than the actual story. There's a lot of good ideas in DA 2 that were never realised completely.
I currently have two characters, one pro mage rogue who went with Fenris and one, um, pro mage mage who also went with Fenris. My third character (I always have several going at the same time, just to add to my gaming confusion and for that extra spice I use the mouse in my left hand to spare my tennis elbow ) will be a big beefy male pro templar warrior and he'll sweep Anders off his feet.

Oh dear, Sebastian, Sebastian.. I'm so torn about him. Intensely religious people makes me uneasy, at least when they keep telling me how much comfort I'll get if I just open myself to their god, goddess, gods, whatever. I'm sure it's possible to do a character with a strong faith that does not come off as preachy but with Sebastian it failed. My trouble is I do like how he looks and I've always been a sucker for Scottish accents. In other words, the package is great but the contents... aieeeeeh!

That sounds so very familiar...
If Sebastian had been a little less preachy, he could have been a true rival for my Hawke's affections.
Like you, I totally love his looks and accent, but these holy warrior characters rarely sit well with me (just look what males I prefer in my other games ), so I don't think I'd ever try to romance him.
I do like his character as a companion, though, and he's not that bad on the rivalry path... although it's very hard to get his rivalry up as long as you still play a nice/diplomatic Hawke, because he constantly approves of your good manners.
Have you already finished one of your games? I don't want to spoiler it for you, but Sebastian's part in the final dialogues makes up for all the preaching!

Meh, spoilers. I've given up on avoiding them. I haven't finished yet but know the story more or less. It's impossible to look at DA 2 art or read fan fiction without coming across spoilers sooner or later. Fire away! Yes, I've found it very hard to be consistent with Sebastian, he disapproves on a lot that I do and then suddenly he goes all soft on me meaning he remains sort of neutral. Sigh.

I see we share the same experiences with Sebastian. I've finally given up, and just take his sudden mood swings as they come... it's a pity that I'll never be able to see his final companion talk, though, because you need 100% friendship or rivalry for that... ah, but we have youtube for that, haven't we?
You're right, it's hard not to get spoilered once a game has been on the market for such a long time.
In the end, it gets really dramatic. Anders does something very drastic, and you have to decide whether to kill him for his actions or to allow him to survive. After romancing him since minute one he met my Hawke, of course I couldn't bring myself to kill him... and the following dialogue with Sebastian is so very, very cool!
Not only does he accuse Hawke for condoning Anders' actions (which makes you feel very guilty all of a sudden ), he also threatens to come back one day with an army of Starkhaven's finest at his back to kill "your precious Anders" himself... I so hope they'll pick up on that in a future DLC or DA3 one day, that would be epic!

Ah yes, what would we do without youtube. That way I can see all these game options that I'll never been able to see otherwise, simply because I can't bring myself to do what has to be done to get them or because I've missed something. One such option is to let Anora execute Alistair in Origins. No doubt, like you, I'll never get to see Sebastian at his finest either. I can't help but to wonder what moron thought a 'chaste' romance would be fun anyway, with all these rampant fan crones out there. We want passion, blood sweat and tears. Yeah.

KaanaMoonshadow In reply to Gaspode5 [2011-10-07 09:59:22 +0000 UTC]
I so agree - I could never let Alistair get executed, not even just to see the dialogue... watched that scene on youtube, too.
Sebastian's "romance" is really hard to swallow on the friendship path - it's too sweet and misty-eyed (in a weird religious way) for my taste, but at least you DO get married to your favourite hunk and it's even mentioned in some of the party banter... something that I'm still missing from any other RPG so far.
Sebastian looks much more worldly and not so chaste when you get his rivalry up and running... although I have no idea how you could do that, if he even gives me +10 approval when bargaining openly with demons. Damn, my Hawke is too polite!
Ah, I'll just take Anders or Fenris then. There we can get all the drama and passion we could hope for!

My characters tend to end up with Anders a lot... I guess every girl has a favourite in every game.
But I definitely want to try out Fenris and even the female romances one day... after finishing the game, I really warmed towards the broody elf because he actually stood by my side in the final battle, which I didn't expect at all because we did not get along too well... that was a pleasant surprise!
I played with the Exiled Prince expansion, and I loved that final dialogue with Sebastian... I'm such a sucker for drama!
