Description
So here is my new art bunny at last, with gratuitous nudity (but no rude bits). As I mentioned in the journal, I thought I'd try a different version of my favourite chaotic evil ranger and his wolf companion. I figured they deserved a holiday from evil deeds. As background I’ve chosen a place that actually exists and just for fun I’ve included a photo of that place in my photo section. The angle is different though. For those who don't know, this is one of the companions that join you on your quest in the game Neverwinter Nights 2. His name is Bishop and he's a chaotic evil ranger with a wolf animal companion named Karnwyr. The look of this version of Bishop is inspired by how he looks in the game but also by the concept art of him, therefore the tattoo and the stud in the ear. Naturally my own imagination has a part in it too although, as always, the picture isn’t nearly as good on paper as in my head. Sigh.
This picture is for Kaana [link] and Fuxfell [link] for their wonderful stories and for anybody who likes evil rangers and wolves.

Regardless anything, the landscape caught my attention... the bright colors, the water reflection... this is way too awesome!

I never did take the time to comment on this painting, which is absolutely wonderful, so I figured after my incidental use of the idea it was about time to. I can't paint at all and I'm in awe of your skill. I love how life-like it all seems. Karnwyr's pose is perfect and it seems like if you look long enough, you might just see him struggling and tugging.
Also, nice nekkid ranger you got there. The way you painted his scars looks great. I like the fact he still wears his dagger, even when otherwise relaxed. It fits very well.

Oh, many thanks for those kind works. Hah, yes I kind of figured that Bishop is too paranoid to go unarmed, even when swimming.

While I can't stand this character, this piece of work is stunning, good job. I wish they had had concept art of my beloved Torio but she is one of the ones they never had anything more then a description of.

Thank you!
I must admit I like Bishop. He's an interestingly complex character.
Yes I believe there's very little official concept art for NWN2, not even all the main characters are covered. It's a pity. I have seen some nice 'Torio' art here on DA though...

Hi hon
I'm still alive, just barely *sigh* But I finally managed to look up your picture, and hey, am I glad I did!
This is really a very beautiful piece of our favourite ranger, and I love all the little details - and of course, Karnwyr! Really, really well done (and it's very hard to satisfy me when it comes to Bishop, ask Kaana...
). But you captured him very well, and I love his eyes and the evil smirk.
Great idea to include them playing with human arm bones - can't have those two get too fluffy, now.
So, now I gotta fave another of your paintings - and I read about that little art trade with Kaana. Can't wait to see the outcome!
Thanks for dedicating this to us, such a sweet thing to do!

Glad you like it. I'm also glad you spotted the 'toy' they're playing with. It's interesting to see who spots these little details. Now I just have to get this next image right...
As for the dedication, I simply had to let the world know who's fault it is I'm doing naked Bishop pictures. Would never have though of it if it wasn't for you two...honestly...

Well... yeah, THAT was believable. Not.
Don't go around blaming us. Everyone knows it's Bishop's fault entirely.
Only nobody dares to say it out loud, he might hear.

Wait for me, Bish. I'm already undressing
I see Bishop somewhere in Rashemen on this picture (If you don't mind, of course) Really, this is Mulsantir lake, the water looks soooo cold.

Hi! It's me! I'm here at last! And you're my first favourite (as it should be). I feel a little uncertain about my only favourite currently being a painting of a naked man, but oh well...its Bishop after all!
Great work. I especially love the landscape, I'd love to go for a swim myself...heh, and Karnwyr's adorable too!
And good idea to use concept art too

Heh, looking through fan art you'll discover there's plenty of scantily clad men. The world is awash with pictures of scantily clad women so as far as I'm concerned it's only fair. Besides, men are just harder to draw and it's good training for me, honestly...
And thank you for the kind comments. Actually my family goes swimming, picnicking and barbecuing in that place all the time.

What's not to like about this work?
Honestly, dear, I think you did a wonderful job:
- the landscape looks so beautiful, and has so many details
- Bishop looks jummy . You're so right, clothes are completely over-rated, and you can never go wrong with scars and a tooth necklace here!
- Karnwyr looks *so* adorable here - I love the fact that they're playing games, it's definitely one of the most relaxed settings I have ever seen for them, but it works well with the bright, sunshiny day feeling of that lake. Just with whose leg or arm are they playing with, I wonder?
All in all, it's a great deviation, and I sincerely hope that you have a place where you can hang it on a wall somewhere!
And thanks so much for the dedication - such works are surely a motivation to keep me writing to inspire more art like this!

Thanks, I'm so glad you like it. It's always a bit of a 'risk' to do these things as everybody has their own idea of how a character looks and frankly, my audience at home is male and to get a decent comment about a picture with a naked guy in it is almost impossible. The best one was something along the lines of 'Oh dear god!'
As for the arm it's probably some unfortunate Luskan. Ever since I accidentally created a skull in the background of the Valen picture (and deliberately enhanced it) I try to put something a little quirky in the pictures, just for fun and to see if it's spotted.
Now my male audience is complaining and wants more women, grumble, grumble. I'm toying with the idea of Bishop and Liliana (when Liliana is having her bath), that way I get to do something for everybody. I'm hesitant though since you've done such a good job with them yourself. Either way the art bunnies are going ballistic.

I love adding all the little details to my works as well, so I'm always a huge fan of very detailed scenes... and adding something quirky to the mix works very well, especially with Fantasy settings like this.
Art bunnies can be a real pest, right? Clingy as hell, and hard to resist. I'd so love to see your take on Bishop and Liliana - it's always so much fun to see other artists work on your original characters, and considering what a great job you did with Bishop here, I'm really curious to see what you'd do with Lily.
What do you think about making an art trade? Your Bishop and Lily bunny against a rendered bunny of your choice?

Oh, now that would be a challenge. I'd love that. The only problem is that you work so much faster than me and you would have to wait literally months for the finished painting. I'd feel bad.

KaanaMoonshadow In reply to Gaspode5 [2010-09-08 14:53:23 +0000 UTC]
That would be no problem - considering my current workloads, I'd probably be able to finish your trade some time in October or November, so there'd be no harm in waiting!
I don't mind to wait for good stuff, so the offer is still up, if you like!

Oh yes please! I have a really difficult one for you. It's one of my own art bunnies but I can't get my head around it and it has the potential to be quite funny. It's the scene when Bishop is watching Liliana from the tree. I'd love an angle where one sees the oblivious Liliana undressing and yet can still see the expression on Bishop's face, which I think would be priceless.
You see my problem here. The angle would be tricky. So far I've only come up with one solution myself. Bishop has turned away to collect himself (snigger) so the angle can still be one to look into Liliana's room, even though one sees Bishop in the foreground too. This is where a digital set up comes in handy. You might be able to experiment more with the angles. If this particular bunny doesn't catch your fancy I have many more. I'm happy to negotiate and discuss.

You're evil, you know that? I work so hard not to make too many artworks of Bishop and the mouse, and now you come along and egg me on to make more and more of these - and always sexy ones, too!
That sounds like an interesting scene indeed, and if you want to trade it for that Lily and Bishop bath scene, I'd be happy to accept!
But you're welcome to trade your own original characters, or even completely different settings, so it's entirely up to you!

Apologies if I'm leading you down that dark path but that scene just captured my imagination. Yes it's sexy but also very funny. I could just imagine Bishop perched up that tree getting hot under the collar, seeing the woman he doesen't even know he fancies undress. Any other man would probably have fallen. It just made me snigger.
I'd say Bishop's expression would be just as great a challenge as the angle.
I think we have ourselves a deal.
On a different note I went and bought that book you recommended. It's fantastic and I can't wait to get my teeth into Photoshop. Thank you for that tip.

Isn't it a great book? I still did not manage to read it all, but it has so many good and detailed hints and tricks about various kinds of digital drawing and subjects that it's truly worth every single cent. Glad you like it, and I'm looking forward to see the first results!
A good deal it is, then!
And you're right - I have no problem with the angle whatsoever, but Bishop's expression - *that* is going to be a challenge! But the moment you mentioned your idea, I found another cute art bunny on my desk... and now I'm already planning the set-up of the scene, and what models I'll have to build in Carrara to get Lily's room to look exactly as in my imagination.
It's good that we'll be patient with each other, and I'll keep you updated on my progress!

Yay! As for Bishop's expression, better you than me.
If that went wrong when I painted there just would be no way of undoing it. Mind you, I'll have to deal with his expression in the bath scene...
I'll keep you posted.
