I'm planning on going all-digital for my next few commissions (if not permanently), so I thought I'd try out a few new techniques
So far, I've thrown down new designs for Kyle and Hal, but I still haven't touched my favorite lantern, John Stewart. Maybe next time.This version was pretty heavily inspired by the segmented GL suit from the animated movie, which, if you haven't seen it IS AWESOME!!! I tried to make it really look like energy armor, like it was a glass casing with green fire churning underneath. Also, I found a way to incorporate Hal's cheesy white gloves in a way that I found pleasing.

You know, I wasn't happy with the movie costume when I first saw it...but the more I look at it, the more I like it. I dig the light coming out of his suit from the chest and the muscle sinews. It looks weird and unique. Of course, if the movie sucks, it doesn't really matter what the costume looks like. I've got my fingers crossed, for sure.

When I was a wee lad, I was always curious as to the choice of white gloves. My dad, not knowthing anything about the medium thought it was so the white behind the emblem was the only white on he costume. A few years later someone pointed out that the choice of white gloves was done to be able to seperate the character's hands from the green light that was emerging from the ring. Since the color palettes were so simply back in the day it was a needed design choice. Oddly, I think the Green Lantern outfit (particularly on Hal Jordan) looks odd without the white of the gloves.
That being said, WOW. I LOVE the look you've achieved with the energy armor. As well, I'm digging the all digital art. :

Dude, I was cracking up at that first line! I've heard the explanation of the white gloves, but really, that green is going to stand out just as much against a skin tone or solid black. I think your dad's explanation actually makes a lot of sense. I was never really a fan of any of the GL costumes until I saw Bruce Timm's take on Kyle (who looked exactly like Hal) in Superman TAS. But, I've always felt like a good artist can find a way to make things like that they don't like look good, so that's what I tried to do.
The really awesome thing about all-digi is that it's faster. Like, A LOT faster. I think this might have taken me two hours, start to finish. Given, the only thing that really needed rendering was his face, because most of it is flame texture and glow effects, but that's still really fast by my standards.
