Description
━━━━━━━━ B A S I C S ━━━━━━━━NAME: Specklekit | Specklepaw | Specklestorm[Speckle] - for her spotted markings
[storm] - for being a little whirlwind of energy
CLAN: WindClan
AGE: 20 moons
RANK: Warrior
GENDER: Female
APPEARANCE:
Specklestorm is a very fluffy cat, named after the orange-and-brown flecks spattered across her cream-colored fur. Olive green eyes gaze brightly out of a particularly dense gathering of spots, otherwise punctuated only by her soft pink nose. Long whiskers sprout from a coat that is generally well-groomed but not without a considerable amount of unruly tufts. Her small and deceivingly dainty paws are perfect for perching on narrow ledges and precarious rocks, and this adventurous cat takes advantage of that to its full extent. Her tail is about a third the size of an average cat's, but that certainly doesn't stop it from conveying her often emphatic emotions.

KITHOOD | 0-6 ☾
It was the unwavering spark inside Specklekit that pushed her through the first few perilous days that threatened to snuff out her light before it had gotten a chance to shine. The medicine cat had warned her mother that kitting at the age of 71 could have its fair share of complications, and it proved true when Emberbelly birthed her three kits almost two weeks earlier than expected. Beside Specklekit, the heartiest of the litter, were Copperkit and Milkkit, all named for the coloration of their fur. The kits were hardly ready to meet the world, tiny and weak as they shivered against their mother's warmth. The biggest hurdle was keeping the helpless kits warm and fed, and the medicine cat worked tirelessly through the night to help the exhausted Emberbelly, but their efforts fell short as the morning light met Milkkit's deathly still body. It was with a great pang of grief that Emberbelly and Badgerfoot said goodbye to their little white bundle of fur, but they thanked StarClan that Specklekit and Copperkit seemed determined to live, growing stronger with each passing day.
It wasn't long before they were romping around the nursery with the other kits, and Specklekit blossomed into a rambunctious and excitable little one, fiercely protective towards her more delicate little brother. Copperkit was a sickly kit, and although his spirits were always high, he found himself more susceptible than usual to illness and could never seem to put on enough weight to escape the other kits' playful jibes that he should've been named Twigkit instead. Nonetheless, the two were inseparable and Specklekit always made sure Copperkit was included, dragging him along with her as the chatty kit inserted herself into any and everyone's fun and games.
It wouldn't last, however, and she was crestfallen when her parents pulled her aside to explain that Copperkit would not be getting his mentor alongside her as the two had longed for for moons. She couldn't argue, as it was during a particularly bad bout of kittencough that had Copperkit sequestered in the Medicine Cat's Den, but it was with a bit of needling guilt that she stood before Reedstar on the day of her ceremony. As she stepped up to touch her new mentor's nose, however, the eagerness overtook her, and all apprehension was left by the wayside.
APPRENTICESHIP| 6-14 ☾
It would've been a lie to say that working with Morningflame wasn't a bit frustrating at first. He was every bit the awe-inspiring warrior that Specklepaw had looked up to, but his feedback was curt and matter-of-fact, often cutting straight to the "criticism" without dwelling on the "constructive" as much as she would have liked. She knew that Morningflame wasn't one to mince words but, despite his words being approving at face value, she couldn't shake the feeling that her mentor just wasn't ever truly impressed. Granted, this did the exact opposite of discouraging Specklepaw, and she found herself wanting to put more and more effort into getting any kind of genuine pride out of him. The difficulties did go both ways, though, as Morningflame found himself competing for Specklestorm's fairly fickle attention span during lessons and often had to relay things a handful of times before the apprentice truly grasped them. It was clear that it wasn't for lack of trying, but the undeniable fact was that Specklepaw struggled to keep pace with her peers. Not physically, mind you-- she was quick enough to pick up individual fighting moves, and could handle prey just fine once she caught the thing, but anything that involved drawing on previous knowledge or procedure or-- StarClan forbid-- sitting still was a monumental challenge.
It might have been a recipe for strife, but whatever tension may have existed at the beginning of her apprenticeship soon gave way to affection as the two got the hang of each other. Specklepaw grew more used to Morningflame's clipped manner, and Morningflame exercised his patience with her in return. Actually the more they trained together, the more her mentor seemed to soften up, and before long Specklepaw was privy to a more sensitive side of Morningflame she'd never known before. Copperkit got his apprentice name soon enough, and the two enjoyed sparring and patrolling together with their mentors, although there was always a small worry in the back of her mind about going too hard on him. Funny enough, their strengths seemed to complement each other, and Specklepaw helped her brother practice his moves in their off-time while he quizzed her in return.
The night marking Specklepaw's 12th moon was fast approaching, and she hoped to tackle her assessment with confidence and ease. Unfortunately, it didn't exactly start off on the right foot as Specklepaw's anxious impatience cost her more than a couple kills during the hunting portion, and Morningflame recognized the spiral of frustration it was quickly pulling her into. The more angry with herself she got, the more reckless she became, and it became clear a little ways in that it just wasn't happening that day. With the assessment called off, she accompanied her mentor back to camp in dejected silence. She was disappointed but not surprised when Morningflame and Reedstar concluded that she would need a little more time to fully grow into a warrior role. Despite the setback, it only took her one night of sullen moping before she bounced back from it, ready to tackle the lessons ahead. Of course, this initial hurdle meant she was beyond herself with excitement when it was finally agreed that she was ready to become a full-fledged WindClan warrior...
But the ceremony never came.
JOURNEY | 14-20 ☾
They found out about the journey. Specklepaw was insistent and upset that Reedstar (check this) wouldn't even take just a moment to give them their warrior names before setting out on a dangerous voyage that would take who knows how long, but it was clear that the Clan had bigger worries and she couldn't very well demand a warrior ceremony. There was much talk of staying and leaving, and it seemed to be the biggest dilemma among the elders and queens, who had the most to lose from a potentially deadly undertaking. By this point, her father Badgerfoot was getting on in years at the age of 89 (having already retired to the Elder's Den), and made it clear that he wasn't keen on trekking through the mountains with no clear goal in sight, not in the tired, malnourished state he was in. It was the first time she'd seen her parents flat-out fight, with Emberbelly accusing him of abandoning the Clan and Badgerfoot retorting that she'd rather lead her children to their deaths than consider any possible alternatives. In the end, neither was convinced, and it was with a teary goodbye and a sense of betrayal that Specklepaw saw her father for presumably the last time.
There was no sugarcoating it-- the journey was rough. It was long and tiring and prey was scarce up here in the mountains, especially for the group of five Clans that traversed its jagged peaks. It was on a particularly cold afternoon that Copperpaw felt his footing slip under the loose rocks and tumbled down a short ravine into a stream below. Emberbelly leapt after him without a second thought, but the strong current carried the two cats out of view in a matter of moments, much to everyone's panic. Heart thrumming wildly in her throat, Specklepaw bounded off through the rocky landscape, spearheading the search and rescue effort. The sight she happened upon as she followed the stream around a sharp bend did nothing short of breaking her heart-- a soaked and haggard Emberbelly hunched over Copperpaw's limp body, furiously licking his fur in a vain attempt to bring her son back to her. Despite all the medicine cat’s best efforts, it was clear that he'd taken in a lot of water and the chances of him waking up dropped dramatically with every passing minute, and that the pragmatic thing to do would be to focus on getting the elder warm and dry again. Emberbelly was wrought with sorrow, refusing to part with her son's corpse until Specklepaw's soft pleas plied her from him at last. He was given the name Copperspots to take on his journey to join StarClan, and they gave him as respectable of a send-off as they could, given the circumstances. Copperspots was gone, and the family of two was forced to trudge on.
With little sustenance or rest, the cough that began sneaking itself into Emberbelly's throat was not a shock. She'd never been one to make a big deal of her problems, but ever since Copperspots's death she'd been slower, more withdrawn. Specklepaw could see her mother's condition worsening with every passing day. Just a little longer, Reedstar promised as hope and health dwindled. At first, Specklepaw didn't understand what the commotion was about when an excited murmur arose from the cats near the front of the caravan, but her heart soared when Moorfog turned his face to them and relayed with a look of immense relief:
They'd found the fjords.
WARRIORHOOD | 20+ ☾
> To be added!
━━━━━━━━ A B O U T ━━━━━━━━
PERSONALITY:
+ [ good-hearted | steadfast | resilient ]
good-hearted :: If there's any one core trait that Specklestorm values the most in herself, it's her burning desire to be good and bring good to the world. No matter the specifics of the situation, if she thinks she can help, you can bet she'll be there.
steadfast :: Specklestorm's determination is a force to reckon with, and her iron will means she will keep pushing to achieve her goals regardless of what's thrown her way.
resilient :: Push her down and she'll snap right back up again-- it's hard to faze Specklestorm. Whether it's a setback in training or a harsh word from an unkind cat, it all rolls off her like water off a duck's back.
> [ impulsive | earnest | chaotic good ]
impulsive :: Specklestorm often acts without thinking, which often times lands her in hot water for remarks better left unsaid or rash decisions. However, her tendency to leap to action has also proven beneficial in situations where hesitation is a weakness, like hunting, fighting, or moments of trouble.
earnest :: Specklestorm is earnest almost to a fault, eager to share her opinion and lacking a filter between her brain and her mouth. While this means her relationships are always very straightforward and transparent, she no doubt has also garnered her fair share of backlash for it.
chaotic good:: Specklestorm has very strong moral convictions and will forgo following the rules if it means straying from what she believes is the right course of action, which can either make her a seriously loyal Good Samaritan or prone to unwise choices without the thought of consequences, depending on who you ask. Her looseness when it comes to adhering to rules or following orders can find her butting heads with authority figures, but you can't deny her heart is always in the right place.
- [ restless | scattered | stubborn ]
restless:: Despite her best efforts, Specklestorm finds it difficult to hold her attention on any one thing for a long amount of time, much to her mentor's frustration. She grows bored easily and is always finding new, not always sanctioned ways of entertaining herself.
scattered :: Specklestorm finds her brain jumping around at a million miles a minute and therefore is prone to being a little scattered when it comes to remembering or keeping track of things. This made it decidedly harder than usual during training, where she had to have things repeated and reviewed a lot.
stubborn :: Specklestorm's strong will and tendency to jump to conclusions can often get her stuck in stark black-and-white thinking, of which it's very hard to talk her out of. Although she'll listen to arguments to the contrary, she tends to stand her ground when it comes to her beliefs.
LIKES: inventing games and dares, goofing around, snacking on crunchy little bugs and beetles
DISLIKES: judgmental attitudes, having to sit still or be quiet, cats who think they're too cool to have fun
ORIENTATION: so hella gay
SEEKING: Specklestorm isn't above having a puppy crush on a fellow Clan cat, and seeing where it goes from there. (Feel free to let me know if you want to set something up!)

SAMPLE:
No. Hush. Back to the silence. It's better this way-- safer. Less risk of falling apart. What she needed was something to do. Something to break the stillness that wasn't about him. Specklestorm lifted her head, casting her gaze over to her mother's slumbering form. Emberbelly's chest rose and fell rhythmically, accompanied each time by a soft wheeze. Heavy lids hid eyes that betrayed the waking cat's desolation no matter how much she thought she was masking it. They didn't talk about it. As much as Specklestorm craved a cathartic heart-to-heart, to finally let down her guard and yowl in agony and be understood, she knew they'd both be in danger of not being able to pick up the pieces afterwards. She shifted, pressing her flank closer against the warmth of her mother's back and swiping her tongue a couple times over the sleeping cat's shoulder. Realistically she knew that whatever cold mountain bug had taken root in Emberbelly's chest after her dip in the cold stream was likely to be contagious, but she couldn't just keep away from the only source of warmth she had left. Even setting aside her own need for comfort, she couldn't imagine how hard Copperspots's death had hit her mother, and she'd gladly take as many moons in the Medicine Cat's Den as she had to if it meant being there for her.
