Description
Well this is about as far as can be from the norm with my photos isn't it?I'm assuming this is some kind of midge anyway... but I can't claim to be all that up on insects. Any ideas? The body's about 15mm long total if that helps D:
[EDIT] The consensus seems to be that it's a male crane fly so there we go~ mystery is solved <3

I love how you can see all the little details on the wings!

It looks like a mosquito hawk to me, they look like giant mosquitoes only that they eat them rather than feed like them.

You never cease to amaze, even when experimenting with new techniques and subjects. ^_^ This is gorgeous, I have a thing for insect macros, I find it so fascinating and disturbingly beautiful. I love the composition of this piece, with the big empty area above, leading the eyes onto the bug. Grayscale really suits this image because it brings out the contrast between the white background and the black crane fly (?). I love how the legs that are further back seem to blend into the background!

Despite my being horribly creeped out by little bugs like that, it's really a beautiful shot. I love the light background against the bug and the wings, especially!

I'd have to guess crane fly too apart from the size. Doesn't look mosquito like to me, at least not the ones I've seen here.

Magnificent. You've turned something small, insignicant and ugly into a delicate thing of beauty.

I think it's a crane fly. Mosquitos although evil and vile I don't think are that big.

thats amazing! sorry no idea what it might be. how do you get the white effect. i know you put a peice of paper or sheers in front of a window for your bjds to get that effect. is that what you did here ?

Pretty much ^^ It was sat on the net curtain we have over a window so that's the background, I had my camera set to a pretty wide aperture (f/2.8 I think) so it blurred out the background too :3

Thanks
I dunno :< It seems way on the small side to be a crane fly, the crane flies we usually get tend to be about two or three times bigger than this guy =X

Hmmm.. Maybe it's a male crane fly, they are smaller than females

Yeah, that's usually how things go in the bug world Females are normally always larger than the males.

Oh wow - nice capture! I'm assuming it's alive... and if so that's amazing! Since bugs tend to flutter off as soon you get near them. What lens did you use??

I think it's actually dead o.O I went back downstairs a few minutes ago and it's still there... D:
And I used my 28-75mm F/2.8 :3 I wanted to see how well it actually handled macro stuff and I was pleasantly surprised.
