Known mutations:
- Advanced cellular regeneration makes The Flesh Shaper exceedingly difficult to put down. Only catastrophic damage such as being blown to pieces or decapitation can permanently kill her.
- Lamprey-like mouth lined with hundreds of needle-sharp teeth allow the Shaper to bite onto enemies and dig into their flesh. The suction created by her mouth makes it very difficult to remove her once attached.
- Serpentine body allows for her to constrict enemies. Can be used in tandem with her sucker-like mouth to quickly subdue prey.
- Radioactive bile spit that burns and poisons enemies. Bile has the horrifying side-effect of causing rapid mutation of an enemy unfortunate enough to be hit by it. A unique retrovirus is found within the bile that induces the mutations. Virus can then be spread by other mutants infected by it. Survival rate among creatures that mutate from the virus are much higher than Nebranium-spawned mutants, though many will still die. Pre-existing mutants that are infected by the virus may actually become stronger and gain new abilities.
- Extreme parthenogenesis allows The Flesh Shaper to reproduce without the need of a mate, though it is still possible for her to breed with a mate. This extreme fertility combined with her mutating bile makes this particular mutant extremely dangerous, capable of producing hundreds more monsters. The mutant seems to have lost it's parasitic nature in favor of this ability.
History:
One of the group of creatures designated as "The Hellspawn", The Flesh Shaper was the only survivor of a US military hunt that killed the rest of her siblings in Valley Forge park. At the time, the mutant was still immature and had not yet fully developed her terrifying array of abilities. The creature was last seen during an assault on the US Army's ambush site where the humans hoped to repeat their success and destroy the remaining monsters the way they had with the first that fell into their trap.
The site was quickly overrun by The Flesh Shaper and her bipedal sibling, and both mutants returned to the Schuylkill river. Unfortunately, the humans were quite persistent in their hunt, and managed to dupe the Shaper's sibling into biting down on on a disguised floating mine which annihilated the creature before it even realized what had bit down on. Darwinism having taught the Shaper well, the mutant wisely avoided any contact with floating objects and slowly crawled across the river floor in order to avoid detection until she managed to escape into the outside world.
For the remaining 2 years, the Flesh Shaper would remain out of sight as it steadily grew and matured, growing to massive proportions while using various waterways to avoid detection. However on January 15th, 1979, it's attempts to stay undetected would ultimately fail as it's frozen, hibernating form would be discovered by a group of hikers inside a rocky den. The hikers fled the area in terror back to the lakeside resort where they were staying. At the Patawana Lake Casino and Resort, the hikers immediately called 911 to report the finding in hopes that someone would be sent down to destroy the creature while it still slept.
Within several hours a small team of men in hazmat suits and unmarked black vans. The men were armed with Auger SPRs and carrying what appeared to be several explosive devices. The creature's den was quickly located and the operation to destroy the creature was underway. Several explosive devices were planted around the creature; the idea was to destroy the creature by burying it alive in it's own den. From there, the cave would be cordoned off and the remains of the creature would be excavated and disposed of.
Once the explosives were set, the operatives took field notes, measurements and other data before relocating to a safe distance in order to detonate the explosives. With everything set, the operatives detonated the planted explosives, creating a loud and resonating boom that could be heard all the way back to the Patawana Lake Resort. To a majority of the guests, the explosion was startling but to the hikers who had called for help, they breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the creature had just been killed before it could kill anyone.
Back at the creature's former den, the operatives waited until the smoke cleared to ready their weapons and approach the blast site to ensure that the creature was really dead before calling in a successful termination. The operatives cautiously approached the site with their weapons aimed towards the still smoking blast area. The smoke began to clear significantly, and the den was now visible to the operatives who quickly began to assess the status of the creature within. The den had completely collapsed and had been buried under tons of rock. No blood or other bodily fluid could be seen oozing from the stones or on the ground. This was mildly concerning as that amount of rock should have been enough to pulp the inactive creature.
Their answer came when the collapsed cave began to tremble, small stones danced on the ground from the vibrations as something big was about to happen. The operatives wisely backed away from the den and retreated to a safe distance. The stones covering the entrance to the lair erupted outwards and an angry mountain of flesh spilled out into the crisp, icy air. The creature's sphincter-like mouth opened up into a horrific abyss of needle sharp teeth that dripped with noxious saliva. The operatives immediately spread out and opened fire on the creature with their rifles, lading down heavy fire on the mutant.
The armor-penetrating ammunition failed to cause more than surface-level damage to the mutant's rubbery skin as the creature prepared for a counter-attack. Flexing it's serpentine body, the mutant lashed out with it's paddle like tail and kicked up large chunks of stone and snow that launched one of the operatives off his feet and into a tree with sufficient force to kill the man instantly. The remaining two operatives regrouped and continued to fire at the creature, aiming for vulnerable spots such as the eyes and gills which seemed to have a much greater effect on the creature as it momentarily shrunk away from the attacking humans.
The monstrosity shrieked as it lunged forward and struck at one of the operatives, nicking his hazmat suit with a jagged tooth and left a deep gash in his skin. The man fell to his knees as his ally primed and threw a flashbang grenade directly at the creature's face. The flashbang exploded and caused the creature to roar in surprise as it completely lost it's vision and sense of direction. While the mutant was still stunned, the two operatives managed to escape back towards the resort where they intended to call for reinforcements.
When the mutant could finally see again, it's human attackers had vanished, but not without a trace. A trail of fresh tracks in the snow marked their escape route, and now the creature had a means to pursue it's attackers who interrupted it's slumber. Additionally, these fugitives could potentially lead it to more human prey as it's belly soon hungered for human flesh. Using it's serpentine body and semi-atrophied limbs, the mutant slithered along the trail of tracks until it came across a stretch of road that led directly to the Patawana resort which was visible in the distance.
The creature took a detour and slid onto the shores of the river that led to the large lake the resort was built around and with a push, forced itself through the frozen surface and submerged into the depths towards the resort. The creature moved slowly due to the freezing temperature of the water as to not expend too much energy in these sub-optimal conditions. Every cell in it's body fatigued from having been awoken from it's slumber, and the beast longed to return to a dormant state. However as long as these humans lived, they posed an ever present danger to it's existence and thus needed to be wiped out.
Meanwhile the operative that was injured during the attempted termination was beginning to show extreme signs of mutation and was becoming increasingly aggressive and losing cognitive functions. Attempts to restrain him resulted in several people being bitten or injured by the man before they were able to quarantine him inside of an empty suite and barricade the door. Within minutes the injured too were beginning to show signs of affliction by a mysterious illness and thus were quarantined as well.
The situation was becoming dire, as it appeared that the creature they fought harbored some sort of plague that was easily transmissible and who's effects were nothing short of horrific. Events took a turn for the worst when an infected woman escaped quarantine and went on a rampage in one of the hotel lobbies, biting and clawing at the uninfected like a rabid animal. Even her appearance was beginning to reflect her nature: her skin blistered and sagged, her body began grow increasingly misshapen; teeth, hair and nails grew at an accelerated rate until she barely resembled a human anymore.
To the one operative who wasn't infected, her appearance matched that of a Hobgoblin-type mutant first encountered in Harper's Ferry in 1977, albeit those mutants were totally unrelated to what was going on here. Meanwhile outside, the mutant monster approached the resort via the large lake it was built around, leaving a trail of cracked ice in it's wake as it went. A tall, semi-circular stone wall was built around the northern end of the lake which was raised into an artificial plateau that the resort was built upon. The left and right side of the plateau was sloped as to allow roads leading up to it to be built. This layout would allow visitors to stand atop the plateau and get a view of the lake and all it's natural grandeur.
The mutant's head broke through the iced surface of the lake in order to observe it's surroundings and quickly spotted the resort ahead of it. The mutant wasted no time in launching it's assault of the human hive and scaled the stone wall that stood between it and it's quarry. The mutant quickly reached the top of the plateau and into the circular driveway of the central hotel tower. The creature rampaged through the driveway and surrounding parking lot, smashing aside cars and street lamps as though they were children's toys. The commotion did not go unnoticed as horrified guests looked out the windows of their suites to see all this unfold.
Their screams and shouts of horror betrayed them however, as they quickly caught the mutant's attention who diverted it's course towards the prey who were foolish enough to give away their location. The mutant lunged at the hotel tower in front of it, ramming it's head clean through the gold-plated revolving doors before slithering it's body inside the hotel lobby which was just barely large enough to fit it's entire body. The mutant thrashed at everything in site, batting aside priceless marble statues and ceramic vases while crushing any person unfortunate enough to be too close.
Outside, Fireteam CHIMERA arrived aboard a UH-1 helicopter that touched down behind the middle tower being attacked. Almost immediately they came under attack by infected, mutated humans who had escaped quarantine or had been recently infected. The team immediately opened fire on the mutants and slew them with ease. Progressing to the hotel proper, they got a firsthand view of the creature infecting a fleeing group of guests with a stream of steaming black bile from it's mouth. Those that weren't killed immediately by the highly radioactive nature of the fluid began to howl and shriek like animals.
These wouldn't get the chance to fully change however, as a swipe from the beast's paddle-like tail reduced the would-be mutants into a fine red pulp. The squad took cover behind various wreckage in the lobby and began to open fire on the creature with their Auger SPRs, aiming for the eyes and gills. Concentrated fire managed to rupture one of the creature's eyeballs, sending a spray of blood and gelatinous materiel in every direction as the creature shrieked in pain. Immediately the damaged tissue bubbled and foamed, and within a split-second the creature's eye had fully regenerated. The organ rolled around in it's socket to readjust before setting it's sights on the enemies before it.
The creature roared and lunged forward like a striking cobra, attempting to swallow Ranbir Singh whole. The seasoned hunter was too fast however, and quickly dove out of the attacking mutant's way while also continuing to shoot the creature until his weapon ran out of ammo. Singh darted behind the receptionist counter and slapped a fresh magazine into his rifle and resumed fire. John Samson and Michael Garret attempted to draw the creature's attention away from Singh through the use of flares. The creature took the bait and attacked the men with it's circular maw ready to devour them both. However the creature was suddenly attacked by several of the mutated humans, these seemingly larger than the ones the fireteam encountered outside.
The mutants grabbed onto the creature's body, clawing and biting at it with rabid fervor. Seizing the advantage, the fireteam launched a coordinated assault on the creature, aiming for the eyes once again. The armor-piecing ammunition easily ripped through the fragile tissues of the mutant's eyes, eliciting a shriek of pain from the mutant as it flailed around blind. One of the mutant humans crawled up the creature's neck and up to it's head before burying it's face inside the empty socket, gorging itself on the juicy tissue. More of the mutant humans poured out from the stairwells and hotel suites, having been drawn to the commotion.
The fireteam redirected their fire to the incoming tide of mutants. Upon further investigation, several mutated dogs could be seen among the crowd of human monstrosities. It appears that whatever afflicted these people was not limited to infecting people alone. Advising his team not to touch or get too close to the creatures, Langham initiated a retreat to the outside of the resort. As they exited the building, Langham requested an airstrike on their location in order to destroy the tower and bury all the mutants under thousands of tons of rubble. Langham intended to kill this creature the same way he killed the Progenitor, ironically unaware that the two creatures are in-fact related.
Within minutes, a squadron of F15 fighter jets soared overhead and circled around in order to fire upon the hotel. the fireteam took cover in the nearby forest as the squadron unleashed a salvo of missiles aimed at the lower and middle floors of the hotel. In the seconds before the missiles impacted against the structure, the mutants within still clashed to the death. The amphibian monster was proving too much for the human mutants to handle even with their superior numbers. Right as the monster was about to finish the humanoids off, the missiles slammed into the building and enveloped the creatures in a fiery explosion. Several other explosions marked successful hits from the other missiles.
The tower groaned and crumbled, shaking violently before the supports finally gave way and the entire hotel went tumbling to the ground in an enormous plume of dust. Several additional missiles were fired at the falling building to ensure that there would be no survivors. Fireteam Chimera emerged from the forest covered in dust and soot from the fallen tower. Suddenly a humanoid mutant stumbled out from flaming wreckage, only to be decapitated by an expertly placed headshot by Samson. As the creature's headless body slumped to the ground spurting blood, the team cautiously approached the jagged rubble mound that was once the main hotel of the resort. After a brief inspection, it was determined that nothing could have survived the missile strikes and subsequent collapse.
Fireteam CHIMERA did a sweep of the remaining two towers and found several dozens of survivors who had barricaded themselves in the basements. After checking the survivors for signs of infection, Fireteam CHIMERA requested pick up to evacuate the survivors and secure the area. In the following days, a 1 mile diameter quarantine zone was established around the resort to ensure that nothing could get in or out and potentially become infected by the mystery plague carried by the large mutant, now designated as The Flesh Shaper. The remains of the humanoid mutants, dubbed Neo-Goblins, were also rounded up and burned to prevent the spread of infection.
The Flesh Shaper's remains were never recovered and no traces of it could be located. It is assumed that the creature was either totally destroyed or had survived. Unbeknownst to the humans, several neo-Goblins had escaped into the wilderness while Fire Team CHIMERA was dealing with The Flesh Shaper inside the hotel. These humanoid mutants posed a dire threat to any other living thing they came into contact with. Deep within the basement levels of the central tower, The Flesh Shaper had survived the human's meager attempts to kill it. The hideous creature burrowed out a den for itself in order to rest, but not before laying dozens of eggs...
