History:

A spawn of one of the poorly maintained Nebranium sites scattered throughout the Mojave desert, the massive mutant scorpion that would become known as "The Reaper" was a voracious predator that fed on other small animals and mutants that it came across. This beast was partially responsible for skeletal remains of other monsters littering the Mojave desert, many of which were cleaned up by another mutant later known as the Lord of Decay.

This hideous beast would often remain hidden underground when not actively feeding, and thus was never detected by the US military for a long time. However that would all change on a particular day where the military prepared a trap for the Lord of Decay consisting of a large pile of rotting meat. It was hoped the scent would attract the creature where they then could destroy it with massed firepower. However the trap ended up attracting more than they had intended, as the huge scorpion also picked up the foul smell of the meat.

The arachnid emerged from the ground just as the military was about to open fire on the Lord of Decay. Taken off guard by the appearance of a second mutant, the military held fire as the two monsters clashed. The Lord attempted an intimidation display by outstretching it's wings and hissing at the beast. The arachnid ignored this initial warning continued towards it's prize. It was only when the Lord attempted a mock lunge did the many-legged mutant see it as a threat and retaliated. The monster raised it's pincers and stinger to strike as the Lord lunged at it. A lightning-fast strike from the arachnid's stinger speared through the Lord's right shoulder and exited out the back.

Though the Lord was injured and poisoned by the strike, it was not ready to give up just yet. The huge bird flew up into the air and brought itself down on it's enemy, it's head barely avoiding a stinger strike. A black cloud of flies emerged from within the feathers of the huge monster and attacked the scorpion, swarming the eyes and mouth. With it's enemy momentarily stunned and blinded, the vulture plunged it's beak in a rend in the scorpion's back armor. The vulture seized a sizable chunk of soft flesh and tore out large strands that oozed pale yellow ichor.

This had a second effect, as the moment the Lord's beak dug into the exposed tissue of the scorpion, the arachnid was infected by a deadly flesh-eating disease carried by the vulture. It would take hours before the disease would begin to show symptom, but from here on out the scorpion would be on a slow decline. It was now that the armed forces opened fire on the warring mutants. A stray missile knocked the Lord off of the scorpion. Projectiles of all kinds impacted against the beasts, having more of an effect on the fragile vulture than the armored carapace of the scorpion.

The vulture was beginning to feel the effects of the scorpion's venom, it's strength quickly being sapped away and it's vision turning blurry. The venom and combined firepower of the military quickly succeeded in knocking the Lord of Decay unconscious, but now they had another threat to contend with. The titanic arachnid powered through the hundreds of projectiles and sheared a missile emplacement in half with a lash of it's stinger. Soldiers began to flee yet for every one that escaped, another fell victim to the pinpoint accurate strikes of the scorpion's stinger. A swipe from it's club-like pincer batted aside a tank that attempted to drive away.

The scorpion was in hot pursuit of the fugitives, carried along by it's many legs. This deadly chase went on for a long while before the survivors became trapped in a narrow canyon as the scorpion entered the canyon and moved in for the kill. Before it could deliver the death blow, a loud bellow was heard from the top of the canyon. A massive mutated lizard came into view, perched atop the canyon looking down at the scorpion. The creature's left eye was positioned almost near the seam of the jaw, and the skin around the mouth was non-existent, leaving only raw flesh exposed.

Without warning, the lizard leapt from the top of the canyon and directly in front of the arachnid, which raised it's pincers defensively. The reptile snapped at the scorpion's pincers and lashed out with it's long tail. The arachnid snared the reptile's tail with it's forked pincer and clamped down hard enough to sever the appendage in several places. The lizard snarled and bit down on the arachnid's right arm, shaking it's head side to side like a vicious dog. It's teeth were unable to penetrate the thick chitin of the scorpion's armor, but despite this the lizard refused to let go, thrashing and writhing in a vain attempt to inflict any damage to it's enemy.

Curling it's stinger, the scorpion lashed out with the deadly appendage and struck the reptile in the side. The bladed weapon easily punched through the mutant's scaly hide, slipping between it's ribs and puncturing a lung. At last the wounded creature released it's grip, but immediately made another attempt at a bite when the scorpion struck again. The arachnid's stinger entered the lizard's open mouth and impaled the reptile through the head, the pointed stinger penetrating the brain and exiting the back of the skull in a gory display. The lizard twitched and convulsed, it's eyes rolling to the back of it's head as it's nervous system misfired. The scorpion pulled it's stinger out of it's slain foe's head; the blade stained with blood and brain matter. The removal of the stinger caused the dead reptile to slump to the ground in a pool of it's own blood.

The scorpion triumphantly crawled onto the creature's body and began to feast on it's kill, unaware that the humans had escaped during the chaos. After an hour, the arachnid had stripped the creature clean, leaving behind a bloodied skeleton and parts it didn't find palatable. The humans had retreated back to the nearby Nellis Airforce Base where the incident regarding the failed trap was reported. Night soon fell upon the base, and the facility was on high alert. As midnight struck, a violent tremor shook the installation who's epicenter was near the storage hangars. A loud commotion within one of the hangars prompted an investigation of the structure by several armed soldiers.

The men approached cautiously with their weapons raised, preparing themselves for whatever was inside. Right as a man reached out to open the hangar door, the entire front face of the hanger was violently torn away from within, flinging humans and scraps of metal with equal ease. The hideous, skull-faced scorpion emerged from within the hangar and hissed at the gathered infantry. Alarms blared through the base as a response was hastily mobilized amidst the surprise attack. Rifles clapped and rockets roared as infantry engaged the abomination. Only by hitting gaps in the creature's armor could they inflict any meaningful damage, otherwise simply flattened on impact or deflected off the chitin plates.

Radio towers were toppled over, barracks were decimated, and parked aircraft were torn to pieces as this living locomotive destroyed everything in it's path. However even as the scorpion rampaged through the base, the creature itself was being slowly destroyed from within: the wound on it's back inflicted by the Lord of Decay had begun to visibly fester. Wet and swollen tissue was turning sickening shades of green and red as the bacterial infection had spread out from the wound and ate away at the surrounding flesh. As the beast's rampage progressed, the debilitating effects of the infection increased in intensity until the animal was unable to continue it's path of destruction.

Having decimated most of the base and it's personnel, the arachnid sought refuge in the aircraft hangars as the sun began to rise. With it's body heavily taxed, it had no choice but to rest for the remainder of the day. Even as it slumbered, the infection continued to weaken it's host despite it's antibodies attempting to fight off this disease. The failing efforts of it's body to fight this infection guaranteed that this creature did not have much longer to live. Some time had passed before the creature chose to leave the base as human activity increased again, aware that it was in no condition to fight.

The huge creature aimlessly scuttled across I-15, terrorizing all who gazed upon it and causing immense damage as it went. The creature finally arrived in the city of Las Vegas, a concrete jungle bathed in dazzling neon lights that drew the creature's curiosity. As it entered the metropolis, it sensed the presence of another large entity in the immediate vicinity. Spinning around, the arachnid once again came face to face with it's old foe: The Lord of Decay. The scorpion took up a defensive stance with it's pincers raised and it's stinger curled to strike. The vulture landed 50 meters away from the scorpion and spread it's wings wide.

The scorpion recognized this intimidation display and attacked immediately, scuttling close enough to be within stinging range before striking with the deadly appendage. The avian immediately took flight to evade the strike and latched onto the stinger with it's clawed feet. Unable to use it's main weapon, the scorpion attempted to use it's pincers to snap at the vulture, but was unable to reach. The vulture lurched forward with a powerful stroke of it's wings, dragging the scorpion across the ground. The arachnid dug it's legs into the concrete and asphalt to try and prevent itself from being dragged any further. Eventually the vulture let go, circling around as to face it's enemy once more. Again, the vulture struck with it's mighty talons, sinking them into the faux eye holes of the arachnid's skull-like head and damaging several of it's compound eyes.

Momentarily blinded, the scorpion backed away from it's attacker as the vulture's diminished shroud of flies emerged from it's feathers to surround their host. The scorpion's festering wound on it's back was beginning to take it's toll: it had contracted a ravaging flesh-eating bacteria that was gradually breaking down all tissue around the site of infection. This debilitating illness was sapping it's strength and greatly weakening it's defenses. Sensing that it's enemy was weak, the vulture pressed it's attack, narrowly evading a stinger strike that punched a hole in a small office building instead of it's intended target. Quickly following up, the scorpion lashed out with it's clubbed left pincer, batting the vulture with enough force to send it flying off course and into a parking lot filled with cars and people.

The impact rattled the fragile flyer, as it struggled to get back up. It's cloud of flies assaulted the scorpion, going for the eyes and the festering wound on it's back. Though they proved to be little more than an irritant, they stalled the arachnid long enough for the vulture to recover and attack. The avian leapt into the air and brought it's talons down into the scorpion's wound, sinking them deep into the necrotizing flesh. With a lunge of it's beak, it seized the scorpion's tail by the base of it's stinger to prevent it from being used. The arachnid flailed it's pincers wildly as it scuttled around trying to dislodge this pest. With It's right pincer that sported forked tarsus, the arachnid grabbed the bird by it's leg and squeezed with enough force to audibly crack bone. The vulture let go with a howl of pain, attempting to take off.

Before the avian could take flight, the scorpion's stinger performed two lightning fast strikes which both speared the bird of prey through the ribs. Blood wept from the wounds as the scorpion struck again and again, each sting shearing through flesh and feathers like a hot knife through butter. Knowing that it was likely going to die, the vulture attempted one final attack to take it's enemy to the grave with it. Mustering it's last ounces of strength, the vulture dug it's talons once again into the open wound of the scorpion. The arachnid hissed in pain as it's enemy's talons dug ever deeper. The scorpion struck again, stabbing the vulture through the armpit with the bladed stinger exiting the other end.

Ignoring the pain, the avian shook it's massive wings like a rattlesnake would with it's tail- Thousands of maggots fell out from between it's feathers like a living, writhing rain and landed inside the grotesquely infected wound of the scorpion. The fly larvae quickly got to work literally eating the scorpion from the inside out as the flesh-eating disease continued to destroy any healthy tissue it came across. The scorpion could feel the tiny invaders eating it alive from the inside, but it could do nothing to stop them. From the moment the Lord of Decay buried it's talons in the exposed gap in it's armor days ago, it's fate was already sealed. The Lord had won from the very beginning and now it's victory begun to bear fruit.

The arachnid attempted to fight back, pathetically thrashing it's pincers at the dying Lord of Decay who was equally unable to muster up the strength to fight back. Chitin plates and necrotized tissue sloughed off the scorpion's body as though it's was like melting wax. The infection had destroyed so much tissue that the beast could no longer support itself and it's legs gave out, bringing the mutant crashing to the pavement. It's limbs twitched and curled as the last jolts of life-energy left it's liquefying body. Though the scorpion had finally succumbed to the disease, it had ensured that the Lord of Decay would join it in death shortly after it's passing...
