History:

The horrific creature that would become The Terror Bird began life as a normal chicken, one of dozens kept on a farm in rural Pennsylvania among other livestock. The animal lived a mundane life of sleeping, eating and foraging the large yard it and the other fowl were allowed to roam. It was on one particular night that this creature's life would change forever. At around midnight, the owner of the farm was awoken to the sound of panicked livestock outside. It was not uncommon for coyote or foxes to sneak into farms and claim one or two animals. Assuming it to be one of the two farm pests, the farm owner grabbed his double-barrel shotgun and headed outside to see what was causing the commotion among his animals. As soon as he stepped outside, he immediately discovered the culprit of the commotion: a hideously disfigured humanoid creature was circling the cattle pen which was adjacent to the chicken coop. The monstrosity had drooping, lesion covered flesh that loosely hanging off of it's emaciated frame. It's face was lopsided, and one eye was positioned far lower than the other. The jaw hung open, revealing dozens of crooked, plaque-covered teeth that dripped with yellow-tinted saliva. The most disturbing aspect of the thing was that it wore tattered clothes stained in blood and other ghastly fluids. This seemed to imply that, whatever this thing was, was once human.

The creature let out a series of wet snarls at the terrified cattle, not yet noticing the farmer aiming his weapon directly at it. The man fired off a single shot at the creature, striking it in the side of the body and causing a small explosion of blood and gore. The creature shrieked and collapsed to the ground in a heap, but it was still very much alive as it flailed on the ground in confusion. A second shot rang out and the spray of pellets tore one of the creature's legs off with a wet crunch. The monstrosity gurgled and screamed as blood spurted out from the stump at intervals. The creature still refused to die, and so the farmer opened the action of the double-barrel and removed the two spent shells. The creature regained it's bearings and focused it's attention on the farmer who was reloading his shotgun. In a burst of inhuman speed, the one-legged monster crawled at him with horrific vigor. The loss of a limb barely seemed to slow it down as it rapidly closed the distance using it's upper body strength alone. Clearly this creature's appearance was not indicative of it's true strength, and it used it's remaining leg to lunge at the farmer right as he snapped the action of his shotgun shut and took aim. A squeeze of the trigger resulted in a spray of pellets that broke apart the creature's head like an overripe fruit. The spatter from the creature's exploding head reached all the way to the chicken coop and showered one of the birds in crimson blood.

After the adrenaline of the encountered wore off, the farmer immediately called the authorities to report the incident. The next morning, police arrived accompanied by an unmarked van and men in hazmat suits. The men quickly recovered the remains of the humanoid creature, putting it's remains in a body-bag made of some kind of silver material and loading it into the back of the van. Shutting the doors, the men in hazmat suits questioned the farmer about how he found the creature and how it was killed. The man was also screened for any signs of illness. The monster had been positively identified as a Neo Goblin, a human mutation created by infection by The Flesh Shaper virus first documented in the Patawana resort. After examining the area where the creature was killed and sanitizing objects, the government officials departed the farm and the issue seemed to end there. However the chicken that had been doused in infectious blood had managed to evade the notice of the government men and had increased considerably in size. It's feathers began to fall out, exposing plucked pink skin below. Small lesions began forming on it's delicate skin just like the Neo Goblin that had infected it. By nightfall, the chicken had become large enough to break free from the chain-link fence surrounding the chicken coop, standing at a staggering 6 feet in height. The chemical alterations to it's brain put it in a berserk state, and it began to attack anything in sight.

The commotion quick attracted the attention of the farm owner, who once again grabbed his shotgun and went outside to investigate the noise. Upon stepping out, a huge chunk of barn smashed into the side of his house and knocked him off his feet. The air was filled with a horrific shriek as the sounds of chaos intensified. The farmer's vision blurred, but he could make out the distinct shape of something enormous attacking the farm. His livestock fled from their destroyed enclosures in a desperate bid to escape the terror. Some were snatched up as they attempted to flee, swallowed up in the horrible beast's gullet. The farmer regained his vision, and now the identity of the attacker became clearer: it was an enormous avian-like creature with pink plucked skin covered in weeping sores and lesions. Red lumpy skin sagged from it's face. A wicked curved beak sat on the front of it's face flanked by more rolls of red flesh. The farmer quickly identified the creature as a chicken based on it's face and what very little remained of it's white feathers. The farmer fired off a single shot out of panic, the pellets causing the creature to flinch and drawing blood. This quickly drew the attention of the monstrosity which trained it's eyes on the farmer. The man immediately dropped his weapon and fled towards his truck, fumbling with his coat pocket for his keys as he fled.

The monster shrieked and spread it's featherless wings in a threat display before taking off after the farmer ad blinding speeds. Despite having a head-start, the farmer could feel the creature rapidly gaining ground from the vibrations in the ground getting closer and closer. The man reached his truck, turned the vehicle on, and floored the gas. The truck's tires screeched and kicked up dirt as he flew out of his gravel driveway and onto the main road. The creature persisted in it's chase however, and was visibly gaining through the side-view mirrors. The man pressed the gas pedal down as far as it could possibly go. The monster reached out with it's neck and clamped down on the flatbed door of the truck, easily crumpling the metal and tearing it free from the rest of the vehicle. Finally, the creature appeared to tire and lost speed until stopping entirely. The beast shrieked into the night and watched as the truck shrank in the distance before returning to the farm. The farmer reached the closest down and frantically reported the entire incident in whatever detail he could remember amidst the adrenaline and fear. What ensued was two weeks of terror on the part of the aptly named "Terror Bird" which attacked local homes and even made some forays into town to pluck up unsuspecting humans. The creature became so brazen in it's attacks that it even assaulted the town in broad daylight, snatching up several civilians at blinding speeds before returning to the forest. Local law enforcement was helpless, as any squad cars sent to the farm never returned. The US Army had been preoccupied with an uptick in mutant activities as the winter drew closer. Starving packs of Hobgoblins attacked hikers, Cryptid attacks were being reported in other states, The Leviathan was spotted off the coast of New Jersey, and most notably, The First Born and siblings were spotted near Conshohocken, dangerously close to Philadelphia. Black Mountain scientists theorized that the creatures were preparing for a winter hibernation and thus were stockpiling on food, however with these creatures almost nothing was certain.

As a result, the Army's forces were spread thin, and were unable to quickly respond to every threat that presented itself. This limited manpower allowed the Terror Bird free reign to do as it pleased until finally, the Army was able to muster the forces to send a team to deal with the Terror Bird. Fireteam Chimera was assigned to the task of killing the mutant, and an FOB was established outside of the town to receive the fireteam. Upon arrival, Fireteam Chimera was briefed on the details of their mission. Their quarry was a massive, bird-like creature with a distinct featherless body and long hooked beak. The creature was also very fast, able to catch up to a civilian vehicle and could have very likely outran it. Langham quickly formulated a plan to deal with the creature that involved targeting the joints of the legs to cripple the creature and prevent it from charging or fleeing. Given the estimated height of the creature, Langham was confident that sustained fire could take out the creature's legs and render it helpless. Michael Garret would post up in a tree with his modified SPR sporting a long-ranged scope and extended barrel. He would take the first shot and disable one leg, and the team who would be acting as bait, would disable the other. With their plan formulated, the team embarked on their transport helicopter and were en-route to the farm where the creature was believed to be hiding.

Upon touching down on the other side of the road across from the farm, there was no sign of the creature aside from the destruction it caused. The team carefully approached the farm with their weapons raised, scanning the area for any kind of movement. Suddenly a commotion to the right drew the team's attention, and the men pointed their weapons in the direction of the farm homestead who's roof and parts of the walls had been torn off. Upon closer inspection, several branches and logs had been placed inside of the house in what resembled a nest. Suddenly, a rotund pink creature stumbled out of the door of the house and rolled onto the ground. The thing was hideous, with a swollen abdomen and huge bulging eyes situated between a curved beak. The creature sported two spindly yellow legs that could barely support it's weight, each tipped in clawed toes. It's body had no covering save for sparse patches of pointed quills. The creature raised it's comically enlarged head at the men and focused it's bulging eyes on them before letting out a piercing shriek. This sound was cut short by three well-placed rounds by John Samson which blasted the creature's head from it's body. Too late however, it's call to arms was heard loud and clear. Movement and noises were all around the team, who began to form a circle standing back to back with one another, weapons aimed at the ready. Several more of these grotesque creatures emerged from the surrounding woods or the ruins of various structures around the farm. Each one seemed to be in various stages of development, with some appearing to have recently been born whereas others have already grown to nearly the height of the creature described in the initial report.

Gunfire broke out, and one creature after another fell to the armor-piercing ammunition of the Auger SPRs. The larger creatures proved a bit harder to take down, and eventually managed to push through the gunfire and attack. The team was forced to fall back to the barn which was the only intact structure. The team barricaded the doors with any heavy object they could move and re-assessed their situation. The mission briefing only mentioned one big monster, not several smaller ones. Either the report was horrendously inaccurate or the creature must have somehow multiplied, which implies the existence of two individuals. Β Just then, the ground began to tremble in intervals akin to footsteps. Carefully peering out the window, John Samson watched as a massive creature matching the description given to them emerged from the forest with several dead deer in it's crushing beak. The remaining 6 smaller creatures scrambled up to their mother with their beaks open, eagerly awaiting food. The Terror Bird dropped the deer corpses on the ground and the chicks began to feed with a voracious appetite. However the chicks killed by the fireteam earlier caught it's attention and it strode over to the bodies to investigate. The Terror Bird nudged the bodies with it's beak to try and get them to move, believing them to be asleep. However repeated attempts with no response made the situation clear to the creature: these chicks were dead and their killers were still nearby. The titanic avian hissed and began to scour the surrounding area for any sign of where the intruders went, searching for a scent or tracks. With their hiding place soon to be discovered by the angry parent, Michael Garret volunteered to execute a risky maneuver to kill this thing here and now. He carefully exited the barn and scaled the nearest tall tree he could get to without alerting either the Terror Bird or her offspring.

The former Vietnam veteran quickly scaled the tree and propped himself up on a branch that could support his weight before taking aim. He would aim for vital areas on the Terror Bird in order to distract it long enough for the rest of his team to exit the barn and take out the feeding chicks before focusing all fire on the mother's legs to bring it down. Garret took aim with his rifle and hovered the crosshair directly onto the Terror Bird's eye and squeezed the trigger on his rifle. A single round discharged from the weapon and soared directly into the mutant's left eye; the bullet rupturing the eyeball in a gruesome fashion. The Terror Bird shrieked and stumbled back as it was overwhelmed with pain from the injury. Just then, the rest of Fireteam Chimera exited the barn and opened fire on the feeding chicks who were caught off guard by the sudden attack. The surprise ambush paid off, and the chicks went down easily before they could even react to the threat. Turning their attention to the now enraged mother Terror Bird, the fireteam opened fire at the creature's legs, specifically aiming for the joints. The bullets penetrated the mutant's skin yet it refused to fall. It stumbled around half-blind snapping it's beak at an enemy it could not yet see. In a frenzy, the creature took off running in circles and crashed into the tree Garret was posted up in. It's mass easily tipped the tree over with the man still inside of it.

Langham broke off from the rest of the team to try and get to Garret who had fallen from a considerable height. Ranbir Singh and John Samson continued to fire on the frenzied mutant and finally, one of the creature's legs became too injured to stand and the monster crashed to the ground. It was far from dead however, as it used it's remaining leg to push itself towards the attacking humans. Round by round that was shot into it, the mutant's movements became weaker and weaker until after some more thrashing, the creature finally breathed it's last and went limp. Singh and Samson both took a moment to catch their breath before going over to where Langham was tending to Garret's wounds. Garret's legs had been crushed under the trunk of the tree and he was likely paralyzed from the fall. Samson radioed in that the mission was complete and that they had a man in critical condition. Within 20 minutes, a helicopter touched down outside the farm with medical personnel on standby. Garret was loaded onto a stretcher after the tree trunk was removed and he was evaced to the nearest hospital. The rest of the fireteam were picked up by a separate chopper as several unmarked white vans arrived on the scene. As the fireteam left, operatives in hazmat suits scoured the area, recovering the carcasses of some of the chicks and taking DNA samples of the Terror Bird. Within the remains of the house that was converted into a nest, the operatives found two intact eggs that had yet to hatch. After collecting some eggshell samples from the ones that had hatched, the two intact eggs were hauled away on a flatbed truck....
