Known mutations:
- Carries a mutated strain of Rabies dubbed "Hemorrhagic Rabies". Causes severe hemorrhaging as it makes its way to the brain, as well as typical symptoms of rabies (aggression, paranoia, foaming at the mouth, etc). By far the most dangerous aspect of this particular mutant. Could potentially cause a pandemic beyond human control unless organism is terminated immediately.
- Sharp teeth
- Talons
- Able to rapidly heal itself by feeding on the blood of victims, as well as infecting them with Hemorrhagic Rabies.
- Echolocation disrupts radar and sonar, making it very difficult to track via instruments.
History:
For millennia tales of a frightening entity known as the Cavernook where told among Slavic countries. The Cavernook was said to be a flying demon that would steal disobedient children at night and take them back to it's cave to devour them. Wether or not these myths and fairytales had any basis in reality is unknown, but in 1978 a creature would appear that would seem to prove these old tales to be real in some capacity.
Disposal Site Bravo was situated in a cave near the Phosphora Nebranium plant which provided power to the nearby town of Dzerzhinsk. This cave was a significant breeding ground for bats which had grown to abnormal sizes since Nebranium waste was disposed there. On a routine patrol of the dump site, Soviet troops noticed a communications "dead zone" when approaching the area where the disposal site was located. With no communications and their other equipment mysteriously failing, the troops turned back and headed back to base when they where attacked.
Something enormous swooped down from the sky and snatched up two of the soldiers. Panicked gunfire from the other soldiers only worsened the situation as they fired their AK-47s into the dark, snowy sky to fight back against this invisible assailant. Again, two more men where snatched up by this flying assailant, their screams echoing through the blizzard before all went quiet. At last, the assailant revealed itself when it landed in the snow and lunged at the survivors. One solder was right in front of the beast when his comrade was bitten in half by the creature, showering him in the monster's saliva and his friend's viscera.
The terrified soldier cowered behind a large rock and curled into a fetal position, cringing as he heard the anguished cries of his fellow men as they where eaten one by one. The screams and gunfire ceased gradually until there was dead silence, save for the ghostly howl of the wind. Days later the sole survivor was found by another patrol, still drenched in blood. When questioned, all the soldier could say was "Cavernook". The soldier also began to display signs of paranoia as well as some bleeding from the eyes and ears.
Meanwhile, the flying beast struck again when it attacked a small farm on the frozen countryside. The beast fed on cattle and the farm owners before taking to the skies once more, disappearing into the blizzard. Back at the Dzerzhinsk base, the Soviet soldier's condition continued to deteriorate; now foaming at the mouth and displaying extreme levels of violence. The soldier had savagely mauled one of the doctors, who also began to display the same symptoms as the soldier shortly after. As these events unfolded, the flying beast struck once more, this time attacking an airfield. The flying monstrosity trashed aircraft and communications equipment alike. It was here that the Soviets got their first glimpse of this beast.
Due to the sudden attack, base personnel where slow to respond with anything beyond soldiers with small-arms fire that did little other than irritate the bat. The bat continued to rack up a body count as it fed on the humans who tried fruitlessly to harm it. After ravaging the airfield, the beast took to the skies once more and disappeared. The Soviets quickly dispatched units to track down this creature so a proper response could be mounted. Little traces of the monster where found beyond enormous droppings that contained human and animal remains.
Days later the flying monstrosity would be sighted near the town Dzerzhinsk where another mutant was rampaging; one that had only recently been discovered. The bat wasted no time in attacking this massive creature, an enormous bear. The bear stood up on it's back legs and attempted to intimidate it's attacker, but the flying devil was not so easily deterred. Lunging forward, the bat skillfully evaded a strike from the bear which would have likely crippled it. The bat made a sharp 180 degree turn behind the bear and landed on the behemoth's back. The bear swatted and howled as the bat dug it's impossibly sharp fangs into the bear's otherwise thick hide.
The bat lapped up the bear's free-flowing blood, invigorating the creature while transmitting the deadly Hemorrhagic Rabies to it's victim. The bear took advantage of the bat's drunken stupor and sunk it's claws behind one of the bat's ears and effortlessly tore it from it's head while also badly scarring the bat's face. The bat shrieked in pain as it's blood sprayed onto the ground, showering some people watching the battle and spreading the plague. Overwhelmed by pain, the bat flew off of the bear who attempted to swing again, but the bat barely evaded this as well. Now enraged, the bear got back on all fours and gave chase to the bat, both disappearing into the forest.
Meanwhile back at the military outpost, the situation with the infected began to deteriorate. The infected soldier had escaped confinement and mauled two guards, spreading the plague even further. The plague seemed to be showing symptoms in it's hosts much faster than before; going from taking hours to mere minutes. The base commander issued a "kill-on-sight" order to open fire on anyone suspected of being infected. Measures where also taken to form a quarantine around the town of Dzerzhinsk to prevent anyone from leaving as cases of the plague where already beginning to crop up.
Ultimately, all non-infected personnel where evacuated from the military base, which was then sealed up and firebombed. An enormous effort was undertaken to locate these creatures and completely destroy them before they could spread the plague any further. Both creatures where located and assaulted with as much firepower as they could muster. Already hurt from it's encounter with the bear, the bat barely managed to escape it's cave when the Soviets arrived. The barrage of projectiles ranging from 7.62mm ammunition to full on armor-penetrating tank rounds ravaged the bat's fragile body as it took to the skies, leaking blood as it went.
The bat would need to feed, and quickly if it was to survive. A commotion at the nearby Phosphora plant attracted the bat's attention, and the creature flew in to investigate. To it's luck or extreme misfortune, it had once again encountered the bear which was now in a total berserk state from Hemorrhagic Rabies, oozing blood from it's ears, eyes and nose. The bear's uncontrollable aggression now made it an even deadlier enemy to tackle for the grievously injured bat, but it would not go without trying. Again and again, the bat tried to get behind the bear using the same tactic that it had before, but this time the bear's experience combined with it's berserker state allowed it to react much quicker than before.
The bat was nearly cut in half twice by the bear before the titanic mammal finally landed a crippling blow to the bat. With a swipe of it's mighty paw, the bear sent the bat flying into several large metal pipes connected to the reactor. The bat screeched in agony as it's shattered body was quickly failing, unable to move. The bear stood up on it's hind legs and roared so loud that it shattered the windows of the nearby buildings. The enormous predator prepared to move in for the killing blow, the bat hissing at it's attacker in a vain attempt to scare it. Suddenly, the ground began to tremble and a chasm split the concrete of the reactor complex. Yet another unnatural abomination rose from the ground it's body rearing up like an enormous serpent.
This colossal centipede immediately attacked the bear, biting into the mammal's side with it's poison fangs. The fangs where unable to penetrate the bear's thick hide, but the animal felt the sting regardless. The bat took advantage of this distraction and bit down on the bear's calf, the bear's life juices flooding into the bat's mouth and revitalizing it. Cellular functions went into overdrive, and the bat's broken body began to rapidly heal itself, even regrowing it's missing ear. Within moments the flying terror was fully restored and ready to fight to the death.
The flying beast took to the skies and attacked the bear with it's talons. Sensing a new threat, the centipede tracked the bat's movements with it's compound eyes and antennae. Once the moment was right, the multi-legged horror struck like a snake and bit down on the bat's deformed left leg. The bat shrieked as the centipede's fangs sunk into the bat's flesh and injected it's venom into the flying creature. Both animals where bulldozed by the bear and all three collided into the reactor's control room, crushing several vital systems and consoles.
The catastrophic damage done to the reactor by the beast's brawl caused failures and radiation leaks on multiple levels of the Phosphora plant. Plant workers began to evacuate and abandon the reactor to it's fate. With the situation with the monsters and the disease spiraling out of control, the decision was made to drop a nuclear warhead on the Phosphora plant to kill all three monsters as well as destroying the town of Dzerzhinsk to stop the spread of the plague. A single bomber was deployed to the Phosphora plant as the monsters where still locked in mortal combat.
In the blink of an eye, the bat, the bear, and the centipede where swallowed by a bright cleansing light. The nuclear fire flayed the chitinous armor from the centipede before the blast vanquished the horrific mutant entirely. The bear's flesh boiled like hot water, skin sloughing off of bone as the animal let out one last defiant roar before it was completely annihilated. The bat's frail body was completely pulverized by the blast, being reduced to a fleshy pulp before being completely disintegrated in an instant. The blast also destroyed the town of Dzerzhinsk; infected, uninfected, and even military personnel where indiscriminately vaporized by the blast.
The Kremlin and state media covered the event up as a catastrophic meltdown at the Phosphora plant, omitting the three mutant animals as well as the deadly plague that the bat carried. In the aftermath of the nuclear bombing, the bat's roost was destroyed with dynamite to prevent any other organism, human or otherwise, from contracting the plague.

"The barrage of projectiles ranging from 7.62mm ammunition to full on armor-penetrating tank rounds ravaged the bat's fragile body as it took to the skies, leaking blood as it went."
So by fragile you mean he's fucking tougher than any non-mutant lifeform XD.
Good to see Cavernook again, he shrank quite a bit though and yet got even more horrific looking XD. I will say he looks like he's a lot bigger than 19 feet though....and man is he skinny for somebody whom weighs 120 tons XD. But other than that, he's pretty damn solid.
I love just how grotusque he looks, the torn flesh, the disfigured swollen stomach, the torn wings, the extra useless wing, etc. He just looks like a poor sonofabitch like the rest of these mutants, always in constant agony. I'm honestly wondering what other horrors will be coming after this little Russian saga is done. What other fan favourites amongst your monsters will be showing up here.
