I've been playing a lot of Command and Conquer Red Alert 3.The lowly Conscript unit of the Soviet Empire continually amuses me. They're the weakest, cheapest infantry type but have so much personality you can't help but be cautious in their deployment. I love their animations (casually swinging their rifles to bat at stones when idle, trying to drink their molotov cocktails) and their quotes are some of the best in the game if not the series.

I've actually always had a thing for a Soviet-punk, especially clothes: thick gloves, long coats and fur hats.

I generally try to keep things (pseudo) realistic
I mean theres a reason why green or kahki is the defult color in military wear
Hence why i going to make it interesting and designing ceremonial guards aka the guys who would dress conspicuous

But yeah. Funny enough japan still went all banzai but this time had to face a (relatively) more unified china. In addition to a ultranationalist russia wanting Vladivostok back. The 2nd sino-japanese ultimately ended in a rough victory for all.
Russia and china got their lands back (Vladivostok and Manchuria respectively) and while japan lost the above fore mentioned territory in addition to korea, it controls Indonesia, the Philippines, and Hawaii. (Though they would loose it in the 1960 Hawaiin revolution)
Today (2018) both Qing China and Japan are having their own little nuclear arms race over the Senkaku Islands (japan never got nuked and article 9 never happened)
