Description
Another new character pops into existence! This one came about thanks to playing around with a redesign of a much older character I had. Β To look at them now, though, you wouldn't even know they were once the same one.
Da'nubi is a Jackal.

Aww, thanks! Β She required me to look into a different region then I usually do in order to get inspiration.

Redesigns give you fascinating opportunities, don't they?
I love this, though, she turned out great!

Thanks. Β I need to finish up the last couple of things on Marthia, and then I can get her posted as well.

I love redesigning old characters. It's fun and also helps you get a gist of what you were into when you first created them.

She does have a little bit of a tribal feel, I guess (which is what I was originally going for) but she's based more on elements of Egypt. The head piece comes from some of the head dresses I kept seeing when I looked up ancient Egyptian clothing.

I got the Egyptian feel from her name, but I wasn't sure if that was your intended racial feel for this character when I saw her species. That's quite interesting to know about ancient Egyptian fashion. o .o Perhaps it was the lack of an actual dress that one would normally see on Ancient Egyptian clothing that made me think otherwise, haha~
Huh, learned something new today. c: Thank you, miss~

It's cool. Β And yeah, especially for female characters, you usually would see more of a gossamer type dress, but I wanted to only draw some influence from Egypt, not fully base it on the culture and fashion. Β I've been doing the same with many of the other characters I have. Haydrian, and Chrycilla so far are influence by Galic fashion, and Malka, Ouron, and Bli'ni by the Pacific Islands.
Plus, I wanted something a bit more 'tom boy' for her. Β I already see her as being rather feisty. Β Also, my mobians are still in the aspect of 'clothing is optional'. Β For accenting, and protection against the elements, but not required.

Ah, I see, I see. Yeah, it's always nice to add a bit of personal touch to certain aspects of the fashion that one is taking inspiration from. Looks more unique, in that sense, as well as making it certain that it won't feel like chore drawing them. Now I can see a couple of links between your characters in the ToM setting. Very interesting, and quite intriguing that Haydrian and Chrycilla are influenced by Gaelic fashion.
From her pose and that expression, I can get already an impression of her personality. She's a tad bit of a "do it myself" person as well, aye?
And yeah, I caught that when I saw Malka and Bli'ni. I fancy the idea that mobians don't necessarily need to have clothing like humans do all the time. Or rather, I believe that it's the society that establishes whether clothing is optional or not, since you did mention on cultural influences for the characters in ToM.

Super late getting back to this...
I do really like playing around with the clothing designs for my characters and I find a lot of inspiration from Heritage clothing from different countries.
ToM is also set in the Archie Sonic comic canon, before the reboot took place. Many of the locations already have real world influences, such as Northamer which is roughly where North America would be and had become a cross between medieval times and futuristic technology.
Or the Wolf Pack who are based on the Mayans of Mexico.

No no, it's alright, miss. I read one of your recent journals about your situation, so there's no need to stress over late messages, alright?
Yeah, I got the real life influences on the locations found in the Sonic Universe, regardless if it is by SEGA or Archie Comics, but Archie Comics has done more on expanding upon these locations than SEGA has. It's so interesting to study about cultural clothing and how they evolve over the decades, much like how the fashion of today is changing.
That's pretty interesting to know about ToM. o .o Huh, and here I was, wondering what else has the reboot changed to the Archie Sonic canon, aside from the characters themselves. And... I didn't know that the Wolf Pack in the series was based off of the Mayans. Huh, looks like I still have a lot to look into.

Da'nubi: *runs a tongue across her teeth, glancing around* Can't say as I've been /here/ specifically before. *grins again, looking up at him* The name's Da'nubi. And what are you? Some kind of fuzzy pine mouse?Β
(And she is quite short)

Da'nubi: It's not a ruin! *a bit snappish, defensive perhaps? but settles* We take very good care of it. The gardens take a great deal of time and effort. It's not easy to raise a garden in the dessert. And the palace! Β If you could see the glory of the palace! There are murals lining the entire great hall....

Da'nubi: Is that so? Might be a funny thing to see out in the middle of the desert. Β Well, alright. But if you bring a trick like that out in the middle of the sands, keep your eyes out for marauders. That kind of stuff would be worth a king's ransom on the open sands.
