What... what day is it? How long have I been here? Whose dishes are these?

Okay, so... classes finished not long ago (which I'm happy to say I did quite well in!), so I wanted to do something to celebrate and fill my time before my summer research position begins. And I decided I'd try drawing again. But it was hard to convince myself to begin, because for almost two years, everything I've drawn has been for someone else. I'd been neglecting to draw for me. And maybe that's why I haven't been wanting to draw as much. Don't get me wrong, I love drawing gifts, prizes, kiribans, and contest entries, but when it becomes everything you do... that spark inside you that first got you to pick up a pencil all those years ago can start to fade.

Well, 5 days ago, a sudden jolt of energy rekindled that spark, and I began sketching this piece. Not for a gift, not for a contest—for me. And by the end of the first session, I was reminded why I got into drawing in the first place: I love to create. I love getting lost in the process of making, because I love being proud of the final piece. And I'm very proud of this one. There's no backstory, no context, no deeper meaning, but that's the point—there doesn't need to be. It's just a teenage Blossom, dressed in simple seasonal clothes. And for that reason, I love it.

I drew a little bit of inspiration for Blossom's teen style from cRoxoverGoddess —her take on Blossom's face and hairstyle is really adorable, plus she gives her really cute clothes!

I seriously cannot believe I spent as long as I did on this piece... those shoes OTL I'd need at least one more person to count the number of hours on our hands... But it felt good to use my fancy tablet again. Hopefully next time it won't take me as long...
