Description
So this is my first deviantART gallery post. It's pretty indicative of what I do when left to my own devices. I start with a pencil drawing, scan it in, and then do this digital chiaroscuro thing to it.There's really no story behind this illustration. I just wanted to draw a crotchety old alchemist and his apprentice who's obviously had enough of the old man's constant rambling about animal innards and such.

First time I've every commented on a piece. I love the coloring and the lineart here- it's really strong. I'd love to see this available in wallpaper form- it'd be great to fire up my pc and see this every day!

The lighting in this is amazing!
Even though there's no actual story with these guys... this picture makes it easy for your mind to form one on your own.

Most worthy of a Daily Deviation

Start with the obvious: The picture itsself is impeccable.
Detail: The lines in the table, the cracks in the wall, the books on the shelf, the lines on the old man's hat.... the attention to detail is quite amazing. I'm not sure I would have the patience for that, but obviously it's a gift to you.
Expression: The old man is obviously enjoying himself while the apprentice looks about ready to toss himself into that cauldron. It's quite entertaining.

This is very vivid. There's a lovely tone and a LOT of story in those characters. So much of the details. I only wish I could capture a scene this well. You're an amazing artist. This deserved a DD. I love how the colors and facial expressions work together to really give this a story, and give each of those characters minds of their own.
