Description
As I promised to some of the people here, I'm releasing the first tutorial here.This is the tutorial for how to do soft cell shading on Photoshop, based on my experience.
The version of Photoshop used in the tutorial is 6. If you use later versions, names of tools/modes and/or allocation of shortcut keys might be different.
I'm working on Windows, so if you use Mac please change these notations as: Ctrl to Command, Alt to Option.
I just hope it helps you.

This is an excellent tutorial. I've been trying to get better at shading for a while, and while I try to work on my own mostly, this tutorial I've found most useful and will be trying it out on a drawing I'm working on, which I'll link to you when it's finished. ^.^ Thank you for spending your valuable time to help less experienced artists. I love your style by the way. ^^

This isn't a step-by-step tutorial like I'm used to. How do I use this one?

I have been wondering what the type of shading was called that was used on the majority of anime pictures and anime itself. This is very helpful, thanks ;u;

So sorry for the very very stupid question, but what is cell shading? D':

Okami49 In reply to Gyarin [2012-06-08 21:57:21 +0000 UTC]
cell shading is when the shading of a picture is not blended so there is a clear line of where the shading is, like in an anime. Soft cell shading is like cell shading except some of the shading is blended, like in most visual novels.
