As I promised to some of the people here, I'm releasing the first tutorial here.This is the tutorial for how to do soft cell shading on Photoshop, based on my experience.
The version of Photoshop used in the tutorial is 6. If you use later versions, names of tools/modes and/or allocation of shortcut keys might be different.
I'm working on Windows, so if you use Mac please change these notations as: Ctrl to Command, Alt to Option.

This seriously just made my day. Not only did this help me figure out how to group layers (which I have wanted to do ever since I'd discovered it was possible), but it's obviously incredibly helpful as far as shading goes. It really is an incredible tutorial!

Try clicking the "Download Image" around the top right corner of your screen (under "Add to Favourites")

I have a question though: On the first level shading, there was alot about slight blurring and major blurring. How can we tell which one to use? As not all pictures are exactly the same as yours

Wow. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into this tutorial and I can really appreciate that.
Unfortunately I do not have the proper version of photoshop to access all of these tools- but I am going to favorite this to save it for later when (if) I do get it!

I haven't actually seen this whole image, but it might well turn out to be something I should know...once I get off my lazy ass, find a driver for my scanner and actually start doing some lineart!
