People occasionally ask me how I got as good as I am. Although I'm far from the best fan-artist out there, I thought I'd make this helpful guide to help people learn the process of constructing a cartoon character out of simple shapes. Also, this joke is so very old.Related content

Certainly. The circles are to provide guidelines as to the structure and shape of the pony's head and torso. The rear torso circle should be about the same size as the head circle, and front torso circle should be slightly smaller. You should also make sure the torso circles overlap slightly.
I'm tempted to discuss how the circles relate to attachment points for the various appendages, but that's really getting more into step 2, so I'll leave it at this for now.
