People occasionally ask me how I got as good as I am. Although I'm far from the best fan-artist out there, I thought I'd make this helpful guide to help people learn the process of constructing a cartoon character out of simple shapes. Also, this joke is so very old.Related content

Actually, the placement of the circles is probably the most important part of the drawing. You can work your way from there.

This cleared everything up for me. Personally, I think this tutorial's step-by-step basis leaves room for error on the part of the reader, so they don't need to erase every little mistake. Your work has helped me a lot.

To make it really accurate, all you have to do is add a third step.
1: Draw some circles.
2: Draw the rest of the damn *pony*. (Fluttershy is not a horse!)
3: Rinse and repeat.

This meme is always relevent as long as there are shitty, shitty-ass "how-to draw x" books being marketed to kids.
Because this IS pretty much all they are.
No wonder I just winged it by just drawing contours as a kid and only started using construction shapes and such as a teenager.

Haha, I remember all the 'How-To Draw' Books when I was younger being basically like this, and me going "why would I do all that when I can just draw the damn thing!"
