Description
Stamp Making Tutorial for Photoshop 7.0This is a tutorial I made on how I first went to making stamps. Mostly, this is here for those that have asked me now to make stamps, but I never got around to answering that question. I hope you all find this tutorial to your liking.
There are two people who need to be thanked for this tutorial. $liquisoft for being the mastermind behind the whole stamp craze in the first place, and I would also like to thank =ipholio for the concept of "mini-stamps."

I was able to translate this to The GIMP [link] , but there are a few things that are different. The Background Layer can't be used the same way because of something called layer boundaries. So I made a transparent background layer and another layer on top of that for the center part of the stamp. Also, when you resize the Canvas, you also have to resize the layer boundary, or you won't be able to work in the newly created space.
Almost everything else is the same, though.

That's good to hear. I've gotten quite a few notes from people asking about doing this in GIMP and since I've never played with that program, I had to tell them that I wasn't sure. Thanks for letting me know this.

No problem. I've done a sample stamp on my other account *NCWeber and included the GIMP file format for layers as a download.

Good, good. That should help others who are using GIMP. That's really nice of you and I'd like to be one of the first to thank you for that. I may not use GIMP, but I can appreciate the work you've done.

Sweet! I've been looking for a decent stamp tutorial. The only problem I ran into was that PS7 wouldn't let me paint right next to the window frame on the right and bottom, so I had to add an extra pixel on the border for each of those sides.

That's strange. I was able too. Maybe it's a setting you have set somewhere?

Could be, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna bother figuring it out. It was never important before.

Seems like an awesome tutorial, but you don't mention how to put images on the stamp! (For us noobs you know lol)
Is there anyway you can note me and explain it in simple terms? Thank you!

Well, putting images is not that hard. It's just working with an image that's the hard part for you have such a limited amount of space.
The most simple way I've found with working with images is this (this should be done anytime during the stage where you are working on the stamp, before making the border):
1) open image separately
2) select the area you want to use with the Marque tool (m)
3) Copy the selection
4) Go to the stamp and paste the selection
5) Now will be resizing it to the size that want and placement*
*resizing is done by selecting the image's layer, and go up to the Edit>>Transform>>Scale selection. That'll help you with resizing it.
It sounds like a lot of work here, but after doing it often like I've done with other things, it's quite easy. I do highly suggest not using images though for they tend to be muddy and not work in a stamp though. However it's the creater's choice.

Wait, I have a question, I don't think it says it in there, but how do you make the grid on the stamp?
And then, how do you make the grid stay on the stamp?
Or, more what I really want to know, How do you make the slanted lines? (on the stamp)
