Description This was taken during my reserve duty in Gaza, 2004.

The man in the photo is an officer in my unit, called Ofer.
Two hours after this was taken we were ambushed by Palestinians forces and if it wasn't for Ofer resourcefulness, this photo would have been the last I had ever taken.
We all got out safe, while the Palestinians retreat after a while.

This photo was shot through Night vision.

What do you mean by "night vision?"

Sorry if I am being goofy here but did your instrument allow for shots or did you butt it up to a seperate camera.

In the army, we are using equipment to allow us to see at night.
One of the tools in an instoment that you wear on your eyes and it magnifies the star lights by 1000 of times, allowing us too see very clear image, based on contrast (and not colour). It works well untill there is a direct light, and that could get us blind for a few seconds (since it's doubled a 1000 times).

Excellent piece. Has a lot of emotion in it.

Glad you are ok. You'll definately be in my prayers as well as everyone else involved. Like you, i wish for peace to. Hopefully it isnt as long as a journey as some think. Maybe it could be just around the corner. But until then, be safe. God Bless

I'd simply would have said it was a great picture, but it'd be unfair to say that if all this is about militarism and an Israeli soldier after all. (I don't mean to insult you, this is just my point of view...) Wish you were Swedish or sth. like that.

I didn't get your point.
You say this is a military point of view?
Do you feel I wasn't showing respect to them by this?

I'm sorry, didn't get it

I cant' imagine living in this climat... I hope one day you'll know peace in Israel, and i hope (even if i allmost know it's impossible) there will be peace all around the world one day.
I really don't know what violence is : i had never never (i am 30) beat with anyone in all my life, i never insult anyone, and i can't understand how men can be so violent... The education i think, because my parents gave me love, love, love and respect from the others. Although, your story made me afraid because of i understood we could loose you, among many other people, and that's really a shame... So glad to have you with us again Gilad

heh. that pic brought up some memories, the use in night vision usually flaws the quality, but in this case it adds a different figuring, very expressive.

first off, you're an amazing person. i'm wearing my israel defensive forces shirt right now. secondly, i would favorite this, but i hate guns...the meaning and the stir of emotions i'm sure this brings to your heart is incredibly special.

Nice shot... I wish I could speak more about the photo itself, but the fact that there is a war that never ends, killing people almost every other day, makes me too sick to comment...

I know things aren't as simple as they may seem, but.... I just wished there was peace between you two countries.
How much land, or resources, or anything, is worth the lifes of hundreds, if not thousands, of people???

Very monumental. I can picture it printed in a large format and hung in one of the buildings of YAD LABANIM.
A wonderful capture of this brave and resourcful man -
I would say it's symbolic for many other brave men at IDF, as well as individual for Ofer.
I'll say it again - so very glad to know your alive and well, and here.
