Description
Sorry for the repost...again. Stuff happens. Like, EVERY time I submit a picture, I get the "DevArt is currently under construction, try again in 5 minutes." Grrr.I'm just painting old drawings because my fingers can't seem to draw anything right lately.
Here's the line drawing. [link]
Is it too red?

I love the whole feeling of this. I like the warm colors and the patterns of her clothing "and" the rug. Excellent work.

Oh oh oh! I just looooove this. I'm so glad you colored it! It is not too red at all. In fact I daresay all the red only adds to it. I'm so glad you got this job you deserve it! :joy:

Ah Madame Cheng. A woman to be proud of.
I think more vivid, lucious reds should have been used.

Man, she really looks asian.
I need to re-think my earlier comments.

No, don't. Those earlier pictures were actually me LEARNING to draw Asians. The reason was that I had an editor see my self potrait of me as a pirate, and she asked, "Can you make her Chinese? If you do, then you've got a job." And I only had a vague idea of how to draw Asians, as in once in a while I could accidently make one look right. But I wasn't going to tell her that. One of the first rules of illustration is that you say you can draw anything, even if you can't. So I told the editor, "Yeah, I'll make her Chinese! Chinese are easy!" And then I rushed home and studied all the differect kind of East Asian faces for a few days and drawing them until I got them right. Now I can draw them out of my head. So no, don't rethink your previous comment. They're pretty old drawings, anyway, almost a year old.

Actually it's not fanart. I drew this to get a job with Peachtree publishing company. The editor there wanted to see my version of Madame Cheng because she's writing a short story about her for an anthology she's putting together. I got the job, yay! I get to start it later this summer. I was surprised they made Madame Cheng so old and ugly in PotC, however, because in real life she was young and beautiful when she first came to power in 1804, very close to when PotC takes place. Her looks are actually what got her command of the fleet anyway. The pirate captain who kidnapped her from wherever she was a slave at wanted her to marry him so much, but she'd only consent if he agreed to give her equal share of everything he had, and he was all "yeah sure whatever you say, just marry me." A few years later he died in a storm and Mrs. Cheng took over his entire fleet and through her organizational skills she managed to be such a pain in the neck to China that even China's Navy couldn't defeat her huge fleet, and the Emperor granted her a peaceable pardon if she'd just leave his navy alone. She retired early and comfortably in style, running a gambling house. It's a really neat piece of history, she was the most successful pirate ever. She even made a list of rules for all 80,000 of her men to follow, which included, "You cannot capture any woman without her consent." Ha, she's so awesome.

Beautiful. Although the small view looks quite red, in fullview there are lots of neat complimentary greens which make it work for me. Oh, and nice lighting again too.

You can never have too much red. Besides, I think the main color of Chinese is red. But seriously, the amount of red looks just fine to me.
I like her pose and the pattern on her clothes. And the background is awesome. <3
Someone told me about Cheng last year in history. And I thought she was awesome. They should really make a movie about her.
I'm sure the pictures you're drawing aren't as bad as you think. But sometimes you just need a break.
