Description This was the uphill section of a switchback, and it just looked well...ethereal with the rain and fog limiting visibility, and the rain's wet sheen making the things that could be seen glisten.

And since someone somewhere cares, it was taken with a 35mm Minolta Weathermatic on plain old color-processed Kodak B&W 400.

This is the camera I used: [link]

ever heard of 'the mysteries of harris burdick' ? thats what this made me think of. such a well composed shot. the curving away of the track, the sense of stillness. its all good.

Well, it didn't look so pretty or dramatic in color, but it looked like it had potential so I shot it.

that is SOOO good. i mean like so many people have tried pictures of rails/train tracks (whatever they're called), but you've taken anything but the usual mundane shots that i'm used too seeing. that pic just has something exeptional about it. lol hats off to you!!!

Thankyou. They're called both, I think it's a matter of preference. Well, I'm not sure I can take sole credit for it, the conditions the shot was taken under was anything but normal.

This is such a beautiful pic! I love the way that the light does that it seems like a melancholy scene. Maybe a train that is not going to return.

Thanks, I had similar thoughts looking at the 4x6 print when I picked it up from developing, like in the fog, around the bend, was the other side of life and death.

Nice. Do you happen to have it in color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GIR-Prototype In reply to abrowncow [2005-09-02 09:38:57 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately no. This was shot on a roll of 35mm Black and White film that can be processed using color chemistry. It's a way of letting photographers dabble in B&W without having to find a place that still uses B&W chemistry or having to suffer the wait of having the film sent off, as almost every place you go now uses color processing.
