Description
I originally created the M901 MDS as a successor to the M808 Scorpion of HALO fame as a visual aide to a fanfiction which will probably go nowhere. In the description in the image I removed all references to the HALO universe, however, and the continuity of the story in question took place over a century after the end of the games so it is not really relevant. It is very heavily based on the Merkava main battle tank although it also takes elements from the Abrams, Challenger, Leclerc, and T-14. The Róka variant's turret was based on the Tunguska-M1, the Orca on the IDF Namer and the Tigris on a prototype armoured recovery variant of the Merkava.
Some other details:
- The dimensions it is based on is 6.1 metres long and 2.3 metres tall for the Crusader variant. So it is a bit stubbier than the T-72 but approximately the same height.
- I never bothered figuring out its engine specifications, but based on its background it would most likely has a hydrogen fuel-cell engine of some descript. In theory it could also be some form of miniaturised nuclear fusion reactor given the UNSC's proclivity for deuterium fusion in their star ships. In that respect it my not be entirely out of place in Fallout.
- The "Quezon II" armour is pretty much entirely based on Dorchester / Chobham armour used on the Abrams and Challenger tanks, just with science fiction-aesthetic materials substituted in.
- The M901 Ruzan may or may not be the model that all Crusaders are upgraded to at some point - it would depend entirely on how effective railguns vs plasma weapons are within the universe which is entirely outside the scope of what I made.
- The primary grenade used in the MK900 on the Orca variant is a disintegrator munition, though it can also used standard HE or plasma-core grenades.
