(Oh God, this took forever to finish!
)This is another commission for as a follow-up to his previous Fight For Freedom picture. As night falls upon the battlefield, Team Dark and G.U.N. have arrived to help out the Freedom Fighters. Sonic is back on his feet, but now he has Metal Sonic to contend with.
It was tough trying to outdo the previous picture. I wanted to keep the composition relatively tight while bringing characters like Tails and Bunnie closer to the foreground compared to last time. While the focus is less on Sonar here, she does get to display her awesome supersonic scream ! Let's just hope it's enough for our heroes to win the day!

This looks Top-Notch professional! The colors and shading set the mood of like a ''end of the world'' setting where the freedom fighters are fighting for the sake of the planet.
Just looking at this artwork alone, I can tell alot of thought and care was put into each character, prop and special effect. This honestly looks like a variant cover to the Archie comics itself! Even the littlest of detail has a lot of professional care!
You really made this look and feel alive! You have a lot of potential and pride in your work and I admire that!

It's clear that you're very familiar with these characters and really comfortable in drawing and painting. One could say you've become an expert at using OpenCanvas... I've got nothing to critique on your technical skills so moving on!
I watched this on YT and instead of you just diving straight in, I think it would have benefited from giving it some more thought, with a rough idea. These sorts of scenes are one of the hardest to pull off! What it's missing is a support for the composition and instead fights against itself for your attention.
Many areas have the same sort of brightness so there's much less focus, even though you have Sonic vs Metal up close. Largely due to piling on too many FX at once, overdoing it. It particularly gets hairy right around Metal vs Sonic or Tails and Bunny which ends up as busy noise.
Conveying a scene like this is a funny thing, our eyes don't like true chaos when we're scattered all over the page with no rest. Use of leading lines or a more controlled use of values for these sorts of very complex images is a must... I'd suggest studying some epic 2 or 4 page spreads in DC or Marvel comics and see the pros build an underlying balanced flow and you'll see how its much more pleasing to the eye.
I'm not a huge Sonic fan but I can tell you have a big imagination for it. Having looked at your other fanart on youtube I see you are really skilled at drawing all sorts of scenes really quickly. You already have a strong ability to visualize and do some great Sonic fanart so I'm sure you'll get the hang of the controlled chaos, just takes a little more consideration. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Very observant of you. It's true that this panorama doesn't have any single focus, which unfortunately tends to happen in a commission with lots of characters. When you're being paid on a per-character basis, you need to make sure everyone gets highlighted for the client, which results in characters competing for attention. Maybe I could have faded some elements further in the background to balance out the composition, but it's tremendously difficult to do aesthetically in a group spotlight of this size. Seems I still have things to learn....

I get what your talking about for per character highlight on a commission. The previous "Fight for Freedom" has much less chaos going on so it's easier on knowing where to look, and I'm sure it was a LOT easier to manage or visualize. So just adding more and more elements isn't always the best idea or you gotta know how to handle it hence study from the experts at Marvel or DC.
"Seems I still have things to learn" Hey, every great artist out there is always constantly looking how to improve themselves. It's only when people stop learning (getting too comfortable and unwilling to challenge yourself) that you stagnate.
I can tell you put lot of heart into your art so I don't see any real risk in that happening anytime soon. You already infuse your pieces with tons of detail, so learning how to wield composition better will only level-up your art.

Holy HELL this came out spectacularly! You can just feel the ensuing senses of real-time instinct of danger and pandemonium as ally and enemy clash in a action-packed warzone of life and death. The coloring, shading and light effects are all stunning and visually appeasing to the eye. I especially like how the seemingly unnatural poses and positions (Antoine and Amy, specifically) give more of the visual impression that their personal bouts and attack are caught in-motion, like if this scene was captured by a shutter camera.
But that it looks and feel more natural in conjunction with the state of the battlefield and the ever-present sense of chaotic, 'no holds barred' siege by our ever-favored furry band of Posterchild Protagonists gives the dangerous elements a more appreciative sense of glamour to it; especially with the lighting and neon-shading-like elements.
