Really I always wanted to see a photo depicting an out-right war between the Freedom Fighters vs Robotnik armies, and this really punched me in the face on how brutal it actually can be, the lighting really made this photo seem like it's truly a grim situation, and that the girl (dunno her name if she's an actual character or not, been awhile since I've kept up on the loop of how the series is going) who's healing sonic and is being defended by everyone else, makes it seem that Sonic's the last hope they have to even turn the tide of the fight.
All in all, very well done, and hope to see more of this level of great artwork!

In one of the best renditions of a fan-character in the Sonic world I've yet seen (specifically in a heavy action scene) you've captured in breathtaking detail the essence of the Freedom Fighters: a battle to the death against overwhelming odds with no reinforcements coming, a foe that LITERALLY knows no mercy and everything and everyone they hold dear is on the line.
Scenes such as this have been done in canon- and fan-art many times before. Some of them have equally stunning artwork and meticulous detail. But few capture the true spirit of the moment, make you feel the moment and not just see a picture. Every character's emotion is not only shown but so intense you can feel it yourself. The warrior princess' side of Sally the princess-in-exile. The frantic desperation of Amy - just a little girl with a big hammer and way in over her head. The frantic maneuvers of Bunnie and Tails as they desperately try to hold back the foe in the air.
To top it all off, your use of perspective is good enough that I feel as though I'm watching a movie and have a front-seat to the action as the roar of engines and the tramp of metal feet signal the coming of more bad guys. Our hero is down and his team is only barely holding on as enemies pour in...can he be revived in time to turn the tide?
My only nitpick?
This scene absolutely BEGS for a resolution on its knees, and I'm going stir-crazy hoping we get to see it. Hit 'play' on this movie because we need to see what happens next.

Let me start off by saying that I am really amazed at this incredible work of art and someone of your talent should be very proud of themselves.
the piece has a constant rush of energy happening in every inch of it, using up every last possible pixel to to really bring this to life. your use of a dusk setting with great shading really gives a sense of seriousness as well as a sense of peril. The amazing coloring blending really brings life to this piece and the positioning and layering of everything really provides a sense of depth making it feel like I'm actually at the battlefield. My main problem though is that while the piece is definitely buzzing with action and movement, things do get a bit cluttered. Taking it all in as a whole can be really astounding and really demands to be looked at with closer detail. But as I got closer to see every inch, I found myself a bit confused. The further you go into the piece, the more you have to focus on which leads to things getting lost in the chaos. I didn't even notice rotor for a bit. I guess my general problem is that too many things are stacked on top of each other at the middle of the page that it's hard to find things at times and even harder to differentiate the the badnicks. plus I get a little lost with the line of action. One part of this picture doesnt really lead me to the next and some are even left all by themselves like tails. I'm not saying this picture is bad, by all means it's amazing, I'm saying that it seems to be battling itself for attention rather than working together. There has to be a flow of energy through the piece so that the viewer can see everything in one swoop. try looking at some famous renaissance paintings for an example of energy flow, such as eyes or body movement. there are already plenty of examples with this piece alone. such as Nicole looking at Amy who in turn is looking at Sonar and Sonic. this creates a path for the viewer to look at Nicole, then Amy, then Sonar and Sonic
I also really enjoy your use of bright lights to draw attention to each third of the piece while also splashing some very important color to the mix. my only problem with these lights however is that they are all equally strong. Now naturally, because Sonars light is the closest and biggest, it's expected that she would be the first thing the viewer focuses on, but many people prefer to "scan" a picture from left to right (or in some cases right to left) much like reading a book unless something directs their attention first. looking at this, I can tell the order of observation was supposed to be Sonar, sally, then nicole. However, because the lights are of equal strength, I got Sally, Sonar, and Nicole. Now this isnt something that would ruin a piece, but it's best to keep in mind the order of observation and keeping the lights balanced.
Overall, I think this piece is fantastic, and I know you'll only get better

Wow! It's a rare treat for me to get some high-level criticism like this. I still think there's plenty of room for improvement in my work, and it takes a keen eye like yours to spot the weaknesses I should strive to fix. You're absolutely right about the flow of the image. I feel like I've become a little too complacent with drawing elements on separate layers and worrying about the layout later. I should put more planning into the composition of the piece to create focal points and a visual direction for viewers. I'll retain your pearls of wisdom for future illustrations.

Well I'd like to congratulate you on such a fantastic piece. The style of this piece reminds me of the darker Sonic series when I as younger but there's much more detail here. It looks like its straight out of a pilot episode for a sonic series. The new character looks right at home in the sonic world too.
The fact that this seems like it came straight out of Sonic's world is what makes this so great. This could easily be a screen form one of the cartoons.
the level of detail is fantastic. Every time i look at it I find myself noticing another character.
The only thing I can really fault this on is the scene layout. The characters in the background appear to be mid battle. however at this point it appears Sonar has found a brief quiet in the battle in order to heal Sonic. I'd expect either the good guys to be starting to form a perimeter or Sonic's attacker to still be present and shown. I feel I'm being really picky here but just thought I'd share what went through my head.

True enough. It's a shame Sonic is down for the count while the rest of the Freedom Fighters are giving it their all. But you know, I have to adhere to the guidelines of the commission. Cheers for your feedback.

Yeah, I know it's a shame Sonic isn't fighting, considering the countless creative ways he could cause some serious damage. But this is the way my girlfriend wanted it. I think the picture is plenty action-packed as it is, anyway.

The idea of putting the freedom fighters in was a stroke of genius! Not many people (aside from you and I) actually still draw them. The special effect a breathtaking! If you wouldn't mind I would love to know what software or app you used! The colors are very accurate, well done on that, but, to me Antione's expression looks strange to me. It just doesn't seem to fit the occasion to me.
I like how detailed the sky is, it reminds me of 'Shadow the Hedgehog' if you remember the game. The detailed shuttles interest me, is it the Egg Fleet? [If you didn't read the comic books WAY back then just look it up on the Mobius Encyclopedia] Well done! Keep at the wonderful work!
God bless you!

Not many people draw the Freedom Fighters? I think you underestimate the amount of fan art out there. This pic was created entirely in openCanvas 5.5. It's what records my progress to produce the playback linked in the description. And yes, that is the Egg Fleet looming above. I got reference images of robots and ships from Sonic Adventure, Sonic Heroes and Sonic '06, plus SonicWindAttack requested EggSwats be included.
PS. I never played Shadow the Hedgehog. I'll have to get around to that someday.

Wow Glitch, you outdid yourself yet again. You can practically taste the sheer, raw emotional turbulence of mortal peril and state of panic.
The vibrancy and shading of each layer and angle give off a distinct yet harmonizing depth to color, shading, perception and all-around liveliness of the captured moment.
The contrast of the red sunset and ebony clouds give off a sense of background presence and the individual scuffles give rise to a more full-bodied experience what is being played out.
My one question is if the background banter is supposed to be rimmed as a straight line (from Rotor to Amy) or if its meant to look sorta concave. The angling sorta mingles both possibilities togethr and sorta mess with the naked eye a bit.

Thanks for another thoughtful critique, Yam-my-man.
Funny you should mention the background. It was my original intention to have a concave background and I made some mock-ups with placeholder photos, but the result looked badly distorted and I settled for a straight horizon line. I think it just looks concave because of the ruined monoliths framing the scene on either side of the image.
