Description
The Return of the King!..... Sort of. With Elias renouncing Naugus' claim to the throne, things could turn ugly fast.
This page was incredibly rushed. After a recent rewrite, I didn't even have a storyboard for this page so it was mostly improvised. I'm planning subsequent pages more carefully from now on. Also, we have two more Patreon characters to shout out:- Lewis by

I'm starting to ponder which of your characters the Tails Doll should kill first. Nee hee hee!

Im enjoing a lot the character development than Elias is taking in the history.
I have always felt that he is someone who feels the need to prove himself.
The fact that both King Max and Sally were an important part of the Knothole people in a way put him... a side... (and the fact than he couldnt use the Acorn sword did not help) but since he became a King he has been basing his self-esteem on being a good king.
The fact that Naugus took it out of him was a hard hit for him. But not enough to forget that the king serves people.
I think that's the reaso than he continued serving people with the Secret FF and that's why he is so focused on recovering the title of king. To give himself value... at his own eyes

I agree. To me it would make sense that Elias is just a touch insecure and feels the need to prove himself, in the wake of his father's greatness in leading the kingdom through immense hardships, but Elias also genuinely has the interests of his kingdom at heart: this ties into his service in the Secret FF, and from there (if successful) he will assume the throne. Yes, Elias is a touch insecure and even just a little power-hungry, but it's all so he can prove himself, and this is what makes an interesting, multi-dimensional protagonist.

The kingdom is needed strong hands, and I don't think that the Naugus is so easy gives up the throne. What, Elias Acorn? Every power must be able to defend itself. Do you want your crown back? You want to prove you're not weak? Prove! By not just words.
Pleased, that Megan supports her husband, but I would have left Alexis with Rosie.

I get the feeling Elias didn't plan on being confrontational until he heard that speech. He's so impulsive. Personally I think the one who crawled out of the thicket is the doll, not Elias.
I'm not entirely sure that's the right way for "hubris" to be used. Most people think it's a synonym of "pride", but in actuality it's a very specific word for a concept that isn't as well-understood as it once was. It has to do with levels of being, and hubris occurs when one places himself or another in a different category, thus it can be an insult as easily as arrogance. The levels (starting at the top) are:
god -- human -- animal -- plant -- inanimate object
So calling someone an "ugly son of a tomato plant" is worse than calling him an "ugly son of a b--ch" because he was bumped down two levels. Technically all Mobians commit hubris because they equate themselves with humans. LOL! It's amazing what you pick up from one semester of Ancient Literature.

My understanding of hubris is a type of superiority complex. That seems to cover most uses. But in your system of hierarchy, what if you have a coma guy who's a vegetable? Does that make him human, plant or inanimate object?

Words change, things are forgotten or even shift into new meanings. The way it was explained to me was in relation to Greek mythology, so my teacher stressed the hubris of demi-gods and the way that they could never reach into the sphere of godhood because being part of a different level restrained them to that level.
Ah, but is he a literal vegetable or is that just a word grafted to him in an attempt to take away his humanity and make it easier not to feel compassion? He's still human no matter where his mind is.

I love these scenes! Moments where the TRUE king finally steps forward to protect his people! Aragorn leading the charge from Lord of the Rings, King Arthur pulling the sword from the stone, and now, Elias facing Geoffrey/Naugus for the role of King. I LOVE this!
