Description Ahh...I finally finished it. This is actually my first tutorial, so I hope it's really helpful to anyone using Deleter ComicWorks. @_@

I guess if you have any ComicWorks related questions, just ask them here? O_o If I know the answer, I'll try to help.

Remember, all of the tones will work at 600 dpi. Some can't work at 300 dpi, and I haven't actually used 1200 dpi. If you have a lot of RAM, this program is great for you.

60L/5% ---> 60L (60 dots per line/inch) 5% (dot density; higher the %, darker the dots)

If you don't have ComicWorks but want to use screentones, you can get them in other ways.
Photoshop (Look for tutorials if you use this method)
How to Draw Manga: Computones vol. 1 and 2 (these come with CDs that have patterns for Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro)
Traditonal Screentones (these have a sticky backing, and are hard to use. I have a ton of these. @_@ )

I'm not sure. I bought the software a number of years ago. I'm not sure if there's still an English version being made or not.

Do you still answer Question in here related to Comoc Works? If you do, I would like to ask something...

"60L/5% ---> 60L (60 dots per line/inch) 5% (dot density; higher the %, darker the dots)"

I wanted instead of 5% I would like something higher than 40% (There's no tone higher than that in CW?) do you have any Idea how to invert the tone? (so i could have instead of 40% I would get 60%?) (like White dots on Black?)

thanks fot the help in advance

oh and the tutorial is really helpfull, I'm working on something right now, and you were my saviour, once again tyks.

Or can Deleter comicworks do that?

Glittercandy In reply to edwardgan [2008-06-25 04:18:28 +0000 UTC]

There are some curved line screentones under the Effect tones, but other than that, I think you would have to use the french curve rulers and the pen tool.

In that same window, you can do vertical and horizontal lines. There's a drop down menu to go between them. XD

When you open a file that you've already scanned, is there anyway to open it without having to select a "Creation System"? Whenever I try to open a hand inked file that I've scanned in already (I had to piece it together), I have to choose from either "Threshold 50%", "Error Diffusion", "Dither Pattern", or "Halftone", and they always chop up my lines. If you could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Ooh nice tutorial! I'm just starting to try and figure out doing screentones digitally and the different methods so this will come in handy. Do you know where you can get comicworks and how much it is roughly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to StarMasayume [2006-02-17 16:26:26 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, Comicworks stopped making the english version of the program (or at least new versions ).

English Version:
Akadot Retail ($100): [link]
Blue Line Pro ($120): [link] ROD&Store_Code=BL&roduct_Code=AR-DEL5051014a

Akadot is a good store (I've ordered from them a lot, and that's where I got my Comicworks). I've never ordered from Blue Line Pro before, but they're supposed to be pretty good. Other than that, looking it up on google would probably find other retailers for it.

Doh, it didn't give the link correctly. To check it out at Blue Line pro, go to [link] -> search store -> type in comicworks and there you go!

i have a question, when i use like dots or grad in the Tone thing or any thing! well when i use it its really big dots even if its the smallest it can go. uh... for example its like my picture is to small or something and not making it pritty like yours how can i make it small little dots like yours?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to JaqD [2006-02-01 00:19:00 +0000 UTC]

You mean in my resized version?

I used 60L tones (a common one used in manga) on art scanned at 600 dpi for the tutorial.

When you're working in the program at 600dpi, all the dots look pretty big. The program assumes that what you're toning will be sent off for printing.

For showing off your work to others online, you'll have to make a resized version. When I finish a piece in comicworks, I save it as a .psd file and open it in Photoshop. Then I create a layer underneath the art and fill it with white. I save a copy of it there, in case I want to change anything later. Then I merge all the layers and resize the image to about 700 pixels wide (or as low as 400 pixels, depending on what the image is) and save it as a jpg.

JaqD In reply to Glittercandy [2006-02-01 00:30:31 +0000 UTC]

oh so it looks bigger on comic works but when you save it as you said and in photoshop it will look smaller?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to JaqD [2006-02-01 01:07:37 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you just need to resize it when you're finished if you want to show it online.
