Description I've lately been increasingly admiring those artist who make picture perfect images of beautiful fairy women with all the magical atmosphere that goes with it. Really frustrated at my own incapabilities of doing the same stuff, I produced something of quite the opposite: a female pirate, drunken, buff and ugly who use everything but magic tricks to lure the not-so-noble guys.

Thanks also to for her very wise words: "i firmly believe that every artist needs to find their own style, and just be the best with it." It made me realise that the pretty fairy stuff has never really been my style, and that buff and powerful people is much more down my lane. That's one of the best and most important reminders I have received in a long, long time, without which this piece would never have seen the light of day. You have a big share in this image, Morrigana

Well, I'm glad you stuck to your guns on this one. It reminds me of another piece of advice I read some time ago, that every artist needs to find their own voice - then scream with it. You're really good at what you do, and I for one am looking forward to more of it.

The picture's amazing too - always nice to see some role reversal!

Nice. I really like the expression on the guy's face as well. And the woman looks like she's a hard drinking, hard fighting sort, for sure. Reminds me of one of my favorite characters from a fantasy novel.
There's plenty of delicate pixies and fairies being drawn, it's nice to see a slightly different type of woman for a change.

I really like this! It's a lovely moment you have captured here.
The poor guy's face is a treat. I mean, what could he possibly say to a big, scary woman like that?
"You're welcome... Ma'm?"

Hehe! Your comments are always so inspiring! I tried to go for a more humourus take on this one, and think I succeeded ok. I was just so fed up with all the tender androgynity and fragile women that seem to dominate fantasy art on these forums, and even if I have great admiration and respect for those who make that art, this was just my little nudge to it all Almost all the sketches I make these days includes some kind of cheesy masculinity, and I'm really looking forward to see what I can make of it.

"tender androgynity" eh?... That gives me an idea for my 2006 resolutions... Must try drawing a man who can't be mistaken for a woman!

I seriously like this XD. The piratelady looks like she is quite the threat, he. If you really like the style and feel comfortable with it, then go for it. Light and shadow need working, though, these are important factors to make the mood pop. You already have set a great atmosphere, now make it believable . For anatomy-references I suggest browsing through deviantARTs stockphotos.

Thanks for the comment and fav I am fairly satisfied with both light/shadow and anatomy myself, but probably I've stared myself blind on it and fail to see something you do. Perhaps I'll fix it when I see it
