The How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World - Discover Your Duo Contest Begins AT 12:00:00 PM (PT - Los Angeles Time) on MAY 8, 2019 AND ENDS AT 11:59:59 PM (PT - Los Angeles Time) ON MAY 28, 2019 (THE "PROMOTION PERIOD").

  • Entrant must be at least thirteen (13) years old as of May 8, 2019 to be eligible to enter the Contest.
  • Entrant must submit a completed entry of a dynamic duo from the How to Train Your Dragon Universe.
  • ARV of all prizing is $9,317.50 USD.

Twenty-five (25) semi-finalists will be selected from all eligible and qualified entries by a panel of full-time DeviantArt staff, along with an independent judge not affiliated with DeviantArt, on or about June 3, 2019. The First, Second, Third Place Works, using the same criteria and methodology, will be selected from the semi-finalists by How to Train Your Dragon writer and director Dean DeBlois. Additionally, three individuals will be awarded Honorable Mentions.

The semi-finalists will be selected on the basis of:

  • How to Train Your Dragon Universe Compatibility
  • Originality of Concept
  • Artistic Skill; and
  • Success in Portraying the Contest Theme.

1. I'm a Toothless kind of girl, but I love the Hobblegrunt and Stormcutter species.
2. Grimmel and his Deathgrippers make quite the intimidating pack. But Gobber and the Hobgobblers were also fun to watch! Haha
3. The world of animation! I discovered that back in 2012 and been pursuing it ever since, all thanks to HTTYD.

What is your favorite species of dragon?
I suppose that my favorite in-canon dragon would be the Nightfury. It's a unique and interesting design compared to other dragons. My favorite instance of dragons in film, however, would probably be "Reign of Fire" with Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey.

What are some unlikely duos that you have discovered?

As far as the trilogy goes, I don't know.

What was once a Hidden World for you and what did you discover?
There's a very rich amount of talented Russian artists on this website. They all usually have a dark and reflective tone to their works. I've been looking through stuff like this for the past 5-6 years.

What are some unlikely duos that you have discovered?
I always really thought Stormfly and Eret were super cute and really inspiring together. But another favorite of mine is Gobber and Grump!

What was once a Hidden World for you and what did you discover?
Actually, art has been quite the marvel to me for some time now. When I was younger I struggled day and night trying to grasp it, and nowdays I've discovered more hidden worlds thanks to the creative outlet than I can count! Each new piece is a whole new world to explore

What is your favorite species of dragon~?
My absolute favorite is the Flightmare but i also ave quite a few other favorites, The Triple Strike, the Light and Nightfury along with Skrill and The Deathsong
 

What are some unlikely duos that you have discovered~?
I love Toothless and the Skrill I think those two together along with the Lightfury and the Flightmarre make an epic duo~!
  

What was once a Hidden World for you and what did you discover~?
There was this little creek I used to live by, I'd go there almost everyday after school. That place was like a wonderland, you could find crystals and fools gold in the creek. Some people claimed you can even find real gold there and gold coins they are just buried deep in the creek and surrounding areas~!

What was once a Hidden World for you and what did you discover?
A mountainous nature reserve just outside of a small boring desert town in California named 'Palmdale' that I partly grew up in. Almost a decade later, after visiting, after one wrong turn on the highway, the desert was transformed into a beautiful rocky, green mountain range that went on for miles. You could even spot some wildlife roaming around. This was a place in Palmdale I had never known existed!

The little hidden path next to my grandparents' garden, which lead straight into the woods. When you're 7, it's truly a great discovery

Well then, did my entry a few days ago.

First DeviantArt contest I've participated in. Loved this franchise from the very beginning. I even read Cressida Cowell's books. That woman truly knows how to keep you hooked. One of the books even had a plot twist so shocking it made me close it mid lecture. No other book has ever done that to me. As for the questions;

1. Favorite dragon besides the Monstrous Nightmare and the obvious Night Fury, it has to be the Timberjack. It can cut fully grown trees with it's wings alone, so that means others will think twice before approaching you. And you can even use it as a tent. Great hiding place, it's warm, and protects you from snow, wind and rain. That's the dragon for me.

2. Strangest duo? Drago and Bewilderbeast. Who could've thought someone who hates dragons so much could actually tame one? It was more slavery and cruelty, but he still managed to bring one into obedience.

3. My own Hidden World was an underground cavern I accidentally fell in when I got lost in a wildlife sanctuary. The sun could shine through and there was a beautiful waterfall. Most peaceful place I've ever been. Too bad it was off limits and I could never return once I found my way out.

There are so many hidden worlds I've discovered. One of them is the sea - the freedom you feel once you're on a boat far from the coast, it's a bit like being a dragon in the sky Though I wish I could fly aswell
Another is simply Imagination. It's probably the best hidden world you can discover, and animated movies taught me to create my own characters who have become my strenght during hours of need. I've discovered so many wisdom in animated movies and imagination And Dragons sure was a movie full of wisdom Thank you for the people who bring these movies to life for that

My favorite dragon species is mostly all of them, but if i have to choose one i'd choose the nightfury
One of the duos that i found unlikely were Hiccups dad, and Skullcrusher. since he was so bloodthirsty in httyd 1.
im still young, i have loads to discover in life.
