The How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World - Discover Your Duo Contest Begins AT 12:00:00 PM (PT - Los Angeles Time) on MAY 8, 2019 AND ENDS AT 11:59:59 PM (PT - Los Angeles Time) ON MAY 28, 2019 (THE "PROMOTION PERIOD").

  • Entrant must be at least thirteen (13) years old as of May 8, 2019 to be eligible to enter the Contest.
  • Entrant must submit a completed entry of a dynamic duo from the How to Train Your Dragon Universe.
  • ARV of all prizing is $9,317.50 USD.

Twenty-five (25) semi-finalists will be selected from all eligible and qualified entries by a panel of full-time DeviantArt staff, along with an independent judge not affiliated with DeviantArt, on or about June 3, 2019. The First, Second, Third Place Works, using the same criteria and methodology, will be selected from the semi-finalists by How to Train Your Dragon writer and director Dean DeBlois. Additionally, three individuals will be awarded Honorable Mentions.

The semi-finalists will be selected on the basis of:

  • How to Train Your Dragon Universe Compatibility
  • Originality of Concept
  • Artistic Skill; and
  • Success in Portraying the Contest Theme.

1.What is your favorite species of dragon?
No doubt it would be, night fury and Cloudjumper!!!, I love those two! I could not choose just one!
2.What are some unlikely duos you've discovered?
Surely it would be Cloudjumper and red death
3.What was once a hidden world for you and what did you discover?
My mind flew, it was beautiful, the colors were fascinating, it was surprising to see the old alpha of the second movie... it was a detail that I loved!!
And I felt a little sad when I did not find another night fury.
There were some questions left to me, like why dragons shine in that place, or if there was some other alpha before Toothless gets there...
It would be great if they made a movie but told a little about that fantastic place!!

1. My favourite species of dragons are Stormcutters from the Sharp Class. They are both elegant and cute. I loved Cloudjumper at first sight. Their second pair of wings and the way they turn their heads like owls makes them the best to me ^^

2. They most unlikely duo I have discover is vanilla and pineapple. It taste weirdly good in my opinion xD
Also Valka and Snotlout. It's not about the age and stuff like that it's just that I didn't see it coming in the third movie and so, it was really weird.

3. The How to train your dragon franchise. I remember watching the first movie in 2016 when the second one was already released. I also remember seeing a lot of fanart of the franchise and I when I got the chance to finally watch it I was amazed. The story, the characters, the music and visual effects were perfect and I asked myself "why haven't I seen this before?"

Otherwise I really love black western dragons!

Hidden world to me would be a ancient world that is hidden from everyone for a long time where creatures live in peace but for how long would it be in harmony if ''bad'' humans wanting to use their ressources dicover this hidden world.

1: I like how the stromcutter first appeared in the second feature film. Their majestic flight, the mystery they breathed and the dominance they              demanded in the scenes.
    Cloudjumper gave me the idea f him being the proud general, not taking any nonsense from any dragon yet can be a gentle giant amongst                humans and small dragons.

2: I can't recall a more hilarious combination than a hungry night fury with a cheeky terrible terror.
    From the first film where the two fought over fish was not only a god comedic break from the main plot but an interesting dynamic in size and            species.
3: Animation, I always love to tell a story or make a good drawing for people to see. Discovering free to use programs are not only a blessing to            have along with a great opportunity to learn a new skill that may be of great benefit for an artist.

What is your favorite species of dragon?
Terrible terror. I feel it pays the most homage to the book series.

What are some unlikely duos that you have discovered?
Don't know if this relates, but in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, a Wolf and a boy named Torak would probably count as one of the best duos I've read.

What was once a Hidden World for you and what did you discover?
I want to say the How to Train your Dragon books. Really got me into back reading after a long period of time without it. Now you won't see me anywhere without a book...

I've got to admit ever since I saw Grimmels Deathgrippers I've been quite captivated by them. They snatched the place as my favorite dragon, besides that, I can't chose just one. My favorites are; Changewing, boneknapper, timberjack, skrill, and of course, night fury.

1.- My favorite species of dragon is the Monstrous Nightmare, (well is hookfang), I love his archness, his way of expressing what he thinks, in spite of who he likes, and I adore his specialty of taking turns in flames!

-What are some unlikely duos that you have discovered?
2.- Weel, hiccup and Light fury, from australet789, that duo was unexpected, but I loved!!!!

-What was eleven to Hidden World for you and what did you discover?
3- Once I went to a national park in Chile, the Fray Jorge forest, and it was a whole new world.
The trip was turbulent for the hills, then the vault of trees and the little mountain pass being swallowed by the mist. A true spectacle of nature!

1. Night fury, cause Toothless is the best dragon!! <3 and he looks like a black cutie cat :3 
2. I found the duo of Hiccup's Mother, Valka and her Stormcutter named Cloudjumper to be a really unique pairing because their partnership seems so extremely close, personal and trusting. They complement and complete eachother so well.
3. When I go hiking in nature, I always discover some new hidden worlds. I live in Hungary which might be a small country compared to others, but we also have a lot of smaller beautiful places where wonders can be found.
