Description
This was an idea that came to me while living in Thailand back in 2008. I wanted to depict the story of David and Goliath in a distinctly Thai way as I learned more about their incredible stories and culture. So I thought of showing the characters as a Thai villager against a Thai giant, or Yak. You see these guys all over the grand palace and temple in Bangkok, though admittedly, they are protectors, not antagonists. Still, the idea of superimposing their conceptions of a giant into the story was fun.

But that was almost 15 years ago, and my skills have come a long way since, so I really wanted to give this idea a much better treatment. Again, these aren’t supposed to be terrifying giants, but I made it such because… well… Goliath. But I wanted to honor a culture and people I had come to love so much, and do something new and fresh, hopefully making one of the Bible’s most well known stories a bit more contextualized to their perceptions.

I spent 18 hours working on this one, working out all the intricate gold embellishments that these giants feature in real life (the statues anyway). Let me know what you think!
