The story I am illustrating pauses to fast forward to another Philistine campaign where the sacred Ark of the Covenant was stolen by the enemy and housed in their temple, after which a series events led to their idol of Dagon, the fish god, breaking and shattering his head and hands completely off. This would have been highly symbolic for the Philistines and explains why they returned the Ark after that happened. So here is Dagon, taken from actual relief carvings being discovered in morning light. I wanted this to seem a bit stark and empty so the focus is properly on the broken idol in the center, leaving the viewer with a feeling of abandonment inside the temple.
