Description
Can you tell I've been reading Sandman again lately?Well, certain people complain that I go on and on too much in my descriptions, so I'll do my best to keep this brief
Please forgive the historical mismatch that is her dress. That style bustle doesn't really go with the styling in the bodice or skirt, but ever since I saw it on an old dress at LACMA years ago, it would seem I work it in whenever I can and yes, it would be difficult to bend like that in a corset, but that's what artistic license is for. She is Death, after all
What was that I said about keeping this short...? Oh well, I'll leave figuring out all the symbolism to you, have fun and enjoy
Medium: Lineart brown drafting lead on vellum, painting done in Photoshop and Painter.
The character of Death is copyright Neil Gaiman.
Be that as it may, please do not use or redistribute.

Death, Delerium, and Destruction were always my favorites. I LOVE how flowing her dress is here. I need to do more fabric-ey characters.

Adorable in the way only Death can be. She is so cool. I love all the lovely little details in this, like the ankh handle on the parasol.

The border really adds extra elements to the piece. Now, I just love her dress, and how she looks in your style.
I absolutely love yoru art and I feel terrible that I never have time to comment on everything.

This is simply beautiful! Her face looks like it's done in Copics.
I've never read the book. Any chance that'd it be located in the local Barnes and Nobles? (and by local, I mean an hour drive to Madison)

Sandman can be found broken down into I think some 10+ graphic novels and is generally available at Borders, but it is also I think recomended for mature readers due to some violence and adult situations. Not gratuitous by any means, but it is there and probably, I would equate it a long the lines of a light 'R' movie.

Well, beyond the actual 'purchasing', the material there in can be very strong, brilliant, but strong, so I really wouldn't recommend it on the whole for anyone under 17, but that's just my opinion.

Well, I'll take your word for it. I'll read the first five pages, then decided to buy it or not.

I'm trying to remember which one it was someone recomended for me, I'm thinking it was Good Omens. In anycase, I'm in need of a new book, so I may swing by this weekend and pick one of those up.

tnperkins In reply to GoblinQueeen [2007-04-11 14:06:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that Good Omens is also supposed to be a good and fun read. More of a comical fantasy about the apocalypse. The tone of the American Gods novel is much darker and similar in feel to the old Sandman work.

Love the details, hon! Especially his hat bow and the umbrella. >^-^< I don't have many of my copies of Sandman left. Maybe just a graphic novel or two...but I did keep the single issue "dream of a thousand cats" which is just a wonderful tale all on its own.

That one is one of my all time favorites. Such a sad undertone, but so very inspiring. I still have to make my way through a lot of the volumes, but that one just grabbed me from the first time I read it.

Personally, I do not think you talk to much in your descriptions! I LOVE long descriptions! I hate it when an artist just does a little brief description or the ever infamous "..." BLAH! A history on a piece is VERY important.
Anyway, Adorable, in a bizarre, gotthy sort of way ^_~
