Description
The Imperial 'drone' as they've been nicknamed by the Terran forces during the first war are mass produced clones made for the sole purpose to overrun the enemy, or use up all the enemy's ammunition for when the regular army arrives after. They're given cheap mass produced armor and weapons and sent at their target. They are deployed in the tens of thousands to millions depending on the enemy force size, investment in the planet they are invading, and the fleet's size that is attacking. Some Mk IV Drone types charging an enemy position. The Mk IV's are the most recent drone variant. Better armor and better training, but still used as they are meant to be.
------------------------------
Bullets and the hail of light artillery dropped across the battlefield. In the valley below, hundreds of thousands of white clad figures rushed the fortifications. The amount of fire being exchanged filled the air with pulse rounds and projectiles.
It was an endless and unstoppable army converging.
All for their emperor.

The dude in the middle is like, "Quick! Bust a Fortnite dance move! They can't hit us if we dance faster than their bullets can move!"

(... What kind of sentience do those drones have? Because existing to basically charge across a field... I get that it's a deprivation tactic, however it feels like a waste of materials on the other end... is cloning that cheap for them?)

They're genetically programmed in the gestation tubes when in growth to obey.
It's pretty cheap really. When the battle is done, just collect the corpses to recycle the biomaterial and armor. Rinse and repeat. If they're lost, there's other means of procuring biomaterial to make more.

(Ah! Alright then, in that case it's only about as morally questionable as the Jedi ordered Clone Army from Star Wars! And a good deal more effective actually given the time table it took for those clones.)

it's like when an IED goes off, you clench your butthole together and get really stiff, before you are immediately thrown violently away.
I'd like to imagine this is the stiffening and the clenching of the butthole part

Are they like the drones in Civ 4, After War, in how they don't quite have brains?

Nnno?? I don't think I've ever played that one.
They're clones. They have brains, it's just during gestation they are brainwashed/ genetically programmed to follow whatever orders they are given.
They're not necessarily stupid, it's just the tactics they are told to utilize is 80% of the time a Zerg rush

Well, the clones in After War, are like biological battle droids. They are bodies with primitive command AIs wired into them.

no. They're just mentally conditioned and programmed during gestation
