Calculations. For Sally, it always came down to calculations.

Sonic racing on a Recon Mission, multiplied by Antoine delivering a special message to their allies, divided by the increasing energy demands of Knothole Village Rotor told her about, plus Uncle Chuck's latest Spy Information and Bunnie's successful SWATBot takedown, minus Dulcy's Flight Factor while she was visiting the Dragon's Nest, divided by Tails' increased autonomy, plus Rosie's morale-boosting care, minus her father's presence at her side, all underscored by the looming threat of Robotnik.

Factors. Friends. Foes. Family. On one level, she knew these individuals, felt for them-love, hate, friendship, protectiveness-but on another she had to boil them down to their strengths, their weaknesses, the roles they played and the ways they acted and re-acted. Crunch them into numbers and make them fit together. That was how she made it all add up. That was how she made it make sense.

Because it had to make sense.

Otherwise, the big numbers-the casualties, the missing, the losses-were for nothing. Every heartbreak, every injury, every sacrifice...nothing. And Sally would not allow that. She would not allow that.

So she would consider her options. She would crunch her numbers. She would make it all add up, and in the end it would equal Home. Victory. A City reclaimed, a People restored. Her friends and family would be safe, her enemies vanquished. Whatever sacrifice she had to make, whatever pain she had to endure, it would all be worth it if she could reach that Goal. If she could help the people she cared about reach that Goal.

Calculations. All it would take was Calculations.

She hoped.
