Description
One of two pics I made while in Maine, dealing with a subject I'd been meaning to tackle for a while now, but never really knew how to up until now.So yeah. I don't know about you guys, but I hope this is where Archie's recent decision to Roboticize Princess Sally winds up: Sal breaking free of Eggman's control and coming to Sonic's rescue in just the nick of time, leading to an Epic Show-down with Metal Sonic.
I'm doubtful it's going to happen exactly like that (especially given SEGA's ongoing allergy of letting anyone but Sonic beat the Bad Guys), but anything even close will satisfy me. For now, though, hope everyone enjoys this fan art.

This is my headcanon now, tx <3
I really like the perspective /placing /posing you used. It makes Sonic look small (= vulnerable), underlines Sally's protective stance, and makes Metal "loom" over them. It gives the impression of him being distinctly powerful, but Sally's stance gives me the feeling Metal is in for a rough ride*. Sally's glare speaks that "don't you dare" message loud and clear, and Sonic's face all but screams "I knew it" in triumph. (I heard basically the same lines as TCH2 when I saw it XD) Love it.
(*)That's the snag about turning someone into a walking weapon - if they turn against you, all that power is still there, and they'll know what kind of weaponry and tactics you use, to boot. Being who she is - if she recovered who she is - Sally might even have access to data that would give her the upper hand at this point.

You're only too welcome. X3 ^3^
It's really heartening to hear so many people walking away from this pic with literally the EXACT feeling I want them to, honestly. XD A lot of the time, I feel like I don't carry my message across as strongly as I could, but here it seems to be resonating with folks just the way I want it to, and that is eminently pleasing for me, I must say. ^3^ Thank you for the compliments, I really appreciate your comment as always.
(*) Now THAT would be exciting to see: Sally getting to go Good again, AND provide her struggling friends with a newfound Edge against the enemy. >3

I think you delivered something a lot of fans really want to see right now. It's one of those wonderful things about fan art, as discussed. ^^
That situation would be interesting in more than one way. Sally would also have to deal with accepting her robot body, even after taking control of it. I'd imagine Bunnie's own experience would give her a bigger chance of understanding what she's going through. Etc. Would make for some nice interaction, I think.

Plus, it was super-fun to draw. <333
I've seen a few fans comment on that, actually, the fact that Sal and Bunnie have undergone a bit of Role Reveral (in addition to Sally having been Roboticized, Bunnie was de-Roboticized by a misfired spell from Naugus), and if this were just about any other franchise, I couldn't imagine that fact not coming into play. Alas, this is Sonic, and honest emotional interaction between characters is the exception more often than the rule, so I'm willing to bet it'll never even receive a passing mention....
Though, as you say, that IS why God invented Fan-art.... ;3

Uh-huh. I mean, we're many enough (and fervent enough!) that some of us are bound to come up with - and develop - ideas that the creators maybe didn't even have time for.
And fan art is bound to become more personal, if you don't try to play professional as you do it, of course. (by "proffesional" I mean fan works that make an effort to be as close to canon as possible, no changes, no pairings, no alternate interpretations, etc)
That is a shame. Bunnie would, in the situation of Sally coming back as fully-robot-but-friendly, have a better chance than most at knowing what she's going through, which (in case the comic kept that line) would be good since she's also one of Sally's closest friends.
How's things gone, btw? Did they resolve the storyline somehow, or are they keeping a new status quo? :/

Exactly. For all that it may not be the same as pro-work, one of the great advantages of fan-works is it allows people to explore ideas and angles on established works that might never otherwise be explored, because the editorial and market-driven constraints placed on it make it all but impossible.
And yes, I too would love to see Sally and Bunnie bonding somehow over that shared Roboticizer experience. As you say, they're close friends, and one way or the other it would be a matter they would be compelled to address together, I think.
As for where the story's at now? Sal's still Roboticized, the Freedom Fighters have split into three different teams (Rotor leading Team Freedom to keep Mobotropolis safe, Sonic is leading Team Fighters to fight their enemies abroad, and Sally's brother Prince Elias is leading the Secret Freedom Fighters on covert missions), and it all just sort of keeps piling on and on. XD;

There's also the fact that some fan works I've seen are on par with, or even better than, pro work. The only given difference between "fan work" and "pro work" is that one has been approved of by certain copyright holders /producers, the other hasn't. Creatively they are on the same ground, with the same potential to make something out of the concepts.
I'd say fan works hold a special appeal for me because they're not canon, though; because they aren't mainstream or widely accepted. I view them as complex (and creative) comments on the contents of the source material.
Plot pile-up, sounds like, yyyeah. Could that be a Sega idea, too? They seem to have a thing for "teams". >3>

Yeah, conceptually, there's some real overlap; my only hesitance comes from the many times I've heard industry professionals, including ones like Gail Simone who began as a fan-artist, talk about how the difference between Fan and Pro work is decidedly bigger than those of us who've never seen the innermost workings of the "Pro" world really know. Which, again, is in no way meant to question fanworks' legitamacy, nor its importance; as you say, the fact that they AREN'T the same as Pro work is part of what MAKES them so special.
And at this point, it's hard to tell how much is coming from on-high at SEGA and how much is just Flynn going for something a bit too big for the book to handle. In any case, it hasn't been the most satisfying time in the book's history, but it's far from the worst too at least.

(*)I love the idea that Sally regains her free will, yet remains robotic for a bit. I'd love to see her use those weapons against Robotnik; he was the one who gave them to her, hoping to make her his perfect weapon - only she isn't perfect. Sally CAN regain her free will; I know she can. She's too strong-minded to be controlled forever. She would be a GREAT asset to our hero and then Buttnik's goin' down!

Who's the idiot that thought it was a good idea to roboticize Sally. It's like the archie writers wake up everyday and the first thing that comes into their heads is a way to ruin sonally for us all. But this is my hope that she does this soon, I think that she is the traitor, an unwilling one.

To be fair, it isn't a bad idea in theory; it provides good Drama and opens up a lot of character development if one is willing to explore it properly.
Thus far, though, I don't feel that's really happened, much to my disappointment. Still, it's not much use getting angry over it, to my mind, and I DEFINITELY don't think it's intentionally meant as a "screw you" to SonSal fans.
Glad you share my hope that this, or something like it, is where this Arc will ultimately end up, though. ^_^

Cool art you have here.
I would have used Silver Sonic III instead of Metal Sonic, but I like this alot nonetheless.

Thank you kindly.
And I used Metal Sonic in place of Silver Sonic III for a couple reasons: first off, last I checked, Silver Sonic III was destroyed back when Sonic and Sally raided the Death Egg, so it wouldn't be around for this hypothetical scene to occur.
Secondly, Metal Sonic is the Sonic stand-in on the current "Team Metal" Eggman's assembled (led by Mecha Sally, with Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles, and a revamped Tails Doll filling out the roster), so it seemed the most appropriate opponent in this situation.

Silver Sonic III was rebuilt for Issue 239 when I saw the preview.
But yea, your reasons for Metal Sonic are very valid ones.
And you're welcome.

Sally: Don't you dare harm my Sonic!
Sonic: Sally! I always knew you could do it! I just knew it!
I really do hope something at least like this happens, although I'm exactly hoping Sally will go for Robotnik and give him what for! Sally is very strong minded and I doubt she can be controlled forever, whatever modifications Robotnik may have done.

That is eerily close to the dialogue I had in mind for this scene. XD ^_^ We'll see how things unfold. Archie's never been as clear about the "rules" of what Roboticization does to the Mind as SatAM, so it's less clear to me whether Sal even COULD pull something lik this off on her own, but here's hoping.
Glad you like the pic.

Well, I have great confidence in Sally; her love for her friends and for Sonic is, to me, stronger than any power Robotnik can ever produce. I know Archie's rules on Roboticization may not be the same as SatAM's, but I just love to hope, you know.
