Description
I had the idea for this just as I was about to fall asleep one night. I instantly jumped out of bed and scribbled down a sketch onto a scrap piece of paper. If you've ever seen JD Hillberry's pencil drawings, they were a huge influence also. But I wanted to see how realistic I could get with this. Everything is drawn that you see, the wood frame, the cards, the pencil, and the eraser. I am really getting sick of my scanner these days because it puts horizontal lines on my drawings. These are not there in reality, it's smooth tone transitions. If anyone knows how to get rid of these please let me know.12"x18" Fabriano Hotpress

This is so amazing! Especially the cards which look almost like photographs!
How do you approach your drawings? Gridding, observation, or photographs? The proportions and values are just perfect!

Amazing drawing!! It does remind me alot o J.D Hillberry's drawings. Why not take a photgraph of it, no lines then , or try scanning it in in photoshop as a colour picture and then convert it to greyscale, it helps with my drawings, cause I usually lose alot of tone values if i scan ity in as greyscale. Do you use charcoal in your drawings??

The details are excellent. Is the perspective a bit off? Could just be me...

Not really aiming for photograph quality anymore, even though that was my opening goal. I'm trying to see the best I CAN now, and express works how I seen them.

I've seen something very similar to this, I think in a book about perspective. Not sure though. Superb work.

You've probably seen it in JD Hillberry's book, if you've read it. I have not read it although i will probably purchase it at one point, soon.

Yes, I looked at the pencil, the eraser and the cards in real life. The frame was made up from my head.
