Description This guy took a lot longer than I thought Having caustics on high really killed it. Took 42.3 hours on my Quad Core Q6700 Extreme system. VRay was set pretty high. I am not sure how to tell the difference in quality between say a 4 global multiplier and a 2 glonal multiplier on the adaptive rQMC ... I think the difference in time is substantial but not so for the resultng image quality.

All in all, I like it. It was a lot of work to get the lights and intensities to where I liked them and envision them.

Hope you like it.

43 hours to render
Original shapes in TopMod 2.3
Rendered in 3D Studio Max 9 using VRay rendering engine

Cool! Nice perspective. I really like the metal material. I wouldn't have bothered with caustics though, I think they actually exaggerrate the reflectivity of the metal in this case and look a little strange...my eye is expecting more solid shadows. If the metal was pure smooth chrome then it would make more sense, you know? Just an opinion though. Cool stuff, love to see what you come up with!

Leah, yes, I noticed that... however, I never did a test render of that region and only saw it on the full render. There was no way I was gonna stop it after 24 hours had already passed LOL. So I let it go

Maybe I will re-do it some day without caustics on and perhaps the reflections would be different/smoother.

The material is indeed smooth but the object is not. I think those are coming from the complex blob holding the brass sphere. The lines on that sucker are pucked all over.. this is the same object full size.. .take a look at how the corners bulge out from the connectors (if you know what I mean) and that is probably why there are spots of reflections from the joints .. not the rod parts...
